Good evening. The Olympic Games is not a religious programme. In France, religion and the state are separate. Everyone has the right to express themselves and to be respected. As far as the opening ceremony is concerned, this is a cultural event that deals with the past, the present and the future. France is not a country with a single people and a single religion. Some groups may shock me, but there is one thing that is very important for living together: tolerance.

The fact that this part and others have been cut off in certain countries around the world says it all. I'm a French atheist but this is pathetic. The Olympics are supposed to be a time of communion, of sharing, of surpassing oneself, of fabulousness. In the end it was a spit in the face. I mean, there's a time for everything, and this was really just pure provocation, nothing else. As an atheist, I think above all of the symbolism and what my ancestors achieved thanks to this figure (for better or for worse, obviously not everything is perfect). Whether we like it or not, France has a Christian culture. And the fact that we're attacking the model of our ancestors by replacing them with a version of the female Thor with a beard is disrespectful. (I'd like to make it clear that it's disrespectful in these particular circumstances, in a context where it would have been a drawing by a guy with the aim of messing around or something, I wouldn't have given a damn. But that's not the case here). What I understand about the opening of the Olympics is the desire to completely degrade the landmarks that made France what it is. However, some landmarks make you build 150-metre-high cathedrals and others make you wear stilettos and a twelve-year-old beard. I'm not religious, but I have a taste for beautiful things that elevate.

To those calling to boycott the Olympics, do not punish the athletes for the crimes of the organizers. These athletes had nothing to do with this. Many themselves are Christians and are offended. They have worked and sacrificed their entire lives to be there competing. Dont take that away from them. This is on the artistic director & the committee who approved this controversial, awful decision. I just hope that the closing ceremony will be closely scrutinized now.

Can someone explain why it’s acceptable to mock someone’s religious beliefs? Is it only okay because it’s Christianity being mocked? Is it acceptable to mock Islam, Hinduism? I don’t understand this manipulation by people who shout about equality and acceptance while completely attacking others. In a secular society, it is important to find a balance that respects different perspectives and beliefs.A truly peaceful message should unite, not divide. It's about using freedom of speech responsibly and with empathy.
