I'd like to hear a brief discussion about how the Starcraft Universe being possibly inspired by 40k. For example I see the the Protoss as being a sort of fusion between the Tau and the Eldar. The Terran are obviously the Imperium, and you have the Zerg who are the Tyranids and are like Orks in the sense that they infest planets.

You need to check this, but I think, in the early development of Starcraft Blizz was in talks with GW and they actually wanted to make the game in the 40k universe. In the end they chose not to, but many ideas remained.

The way I heard it, GW refused Blizzard the license to make a Warhammer branded game, believing video-games were too juvenile for Warhammer. You gotta understand that this was the mid 90s, and video-games were still broadly viewed as something targeted only at children and 'geeky' adults, back when the 'geek' label was still embarrassing. It's ironic in that sense, because the mainstream public also viewed table-top games like Warhammer and DnD as having the same target demographic, but Games Workshop themselves nurtured a lofty, even arrogant attitude about their own IP. As for 40k and StarCraft, remember that Blizzard made WarCraft first, StarCraft second. Blizzard never approached GW for a 40k license, because after WarCraft had already taken off as a Warhammer 'inspired' RTS game, they knew their license-less formula was working. So WarCraft became to StarCraft what GW's Warhammer is to Warhammer: 40k.

Question: (another one) It seems like the Tau are in conflict with the Tyranids and Orks the most of all Xenos, is it due to the location of their empire, because they are trying to expand, or are they seen as weak by the otter races? I know the Imperium has fought both plenty of times, but from this video it seems as if the Tau are targeted a lot by Tyranid and Ork attacks a lot.
