I wish I could give 1,000 'thumbs up' to this video just for the first 5 seconds. I've been looking for a catalog of finger picking style songs online for MONTHS. It's easy to find chord tabs, but this is a gold mine. Love your channel!

Good day Katie. Like that Triplet technique. I can see playing a cowboy song with the tri-pl-et, as it has the rhythmic feel of a horse ambling along the trail. This was challenging for me. I had to slow the video down to hear the patterns correctly, (I'm a visual learner) I got them though, so all is good. Is it possible to put the picking sequence on screen? T-P-T-P-M-P-T-P The 3rd pattern you taught at 7:00 was T-T-M-P-T-P-T-T-M-P-T-P yet at 7:15 you played T-T-M-P-T-M-T-T-M-P-T-M I was picking my brain trying to figure it out, this is all new to me so I'm not sure if I missed something? Besides that blip of confusion on my part, it's exciting to learn these picking patterns. I'm amazed at how each one changed the feel of the chord progressions. It's interesting as now the muscle memory is for my strumming hand fingers. Looking forward to this adventure. 🎵Happy trails to you, until we meet again🎵 A wonderful weekend Katie. 👋

@@OneMusicSchool that's okay, I do the same thing with my writing. I sometimes leave words out of sentences. In a way it helped me focus on your teaching, plus in your description you said there's 5 techniques, so it was probably one of them that I got mixed up. There was a guitarist finger picking a Queen song in the commercial before your vid, rather pleasant. Happy day 😀🙏

Thanks, I hope you have a great day as well. I’m actually going to step back from KZbin for a while. There will definitely be one video a week, but two a week wont be the norm for this month. It’s missing details because of a time crunch that’s just making me rethink everything.

@@OneMusicSchool Thanks for telling me Katie. Seeing those crowds you are teaching in your IG stories, plus your work at the music store, your private lesson, your family life and church leadership, I completely understand the need to step back. If these finger picking tutorials are an indication of the challenges of the themes to come, we will be plenty busy with a video a week. We will have time to review and digest the knowledge you impart. We aren't going anywhere. Gotta do what's best for you. One video a week, even one video a month, is better than no One Music School at all. Love and prayers Katie 🙏💜🙏

how do you choose a finger picking, is it different for 4/4, 6/8 songs. Is it one more appropriate ?
@OneMusicSchool4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it would change with the time signature. Just make sure whatever pattern you chose fits the time signature. So if a song is in 4/4, make sure the pattern you choose fits within 4 beats. I hope that makes sense.

This went a little too fast for me. I was unable to fully grasp your first finger picking pattern so unfortunately I mentally tune out after that.
@OneMusicSchool6 жыл бұрын
Sorry if it was too fast for you. Did you know that I made a video on how to slow down or speed up any KZbin video so that you can adjust the speed to your liking. I’ll link it for you.
@srjscott6 жыл бұрын
When I said it was too fast, physically slowing it down doesn’t fill in the pieces I need a little more reassurance on, but it does make me feel like I am insufficient as a human-being not to be able to interpolate the steps that you breezed through in order to fit everything in you wanted to include in this lesson. If you look at how quickly you instructed on the last few plucks of the first exercise, you may see my point. I think you are a fantastic ukulele player, very passionate and driven, and a kind and loving person to. You are so accomplished though it makes it hard for you to understand how for a beginner this is like going from crawling to walking which are two distinctly different things. The human brain unlike a computer has the ability to get from A to B with holes in the code. It depends on the natural ability of a person to be able to span those gaps. As an engineer it is an occupational hazard for me to focus on the gaps and how things break down in them so please don’t take this as criticism but maybe as some input there is a little room for improvement on this particular lesson.
