The Muslim that Trended on Netflix | Yusef Salaam (Full Podcast)

The infamous “Central Park Five” was a case that made headlines around the world. On the eve of the 19th of April,1989, a young white woman jogging through Central Park, New York, was brutally attacked, raped and left unconscious. Following a vicious media storm, five black and brown teens were swiftly charged with her rape after being coerced into falsely confessing - Raymond Santana, 14; Kevin Richardson, 14; Antron McCray, 15; Yusef Salaam, 15; and Korey Wise, 16.
Thirteen years later in 2002, they were exonerated after a prison inmate confessed to the crime. Today, they are known as the “Exonerated Five”. Their inspirational story is told in the Emmy Award-winning Netflix series, “When They See Us”.
In this special podcast, we are joined by one of the exonerated five, Dr Yusef Salaam. Dr Salaam is an author, motivational speaker and a current Boardman of the Innocence Project.
In this conversation he speaks about his life behind prison, his relationship with his faith and how he has been able to grow from his experience.

I was in jail, I most often I recited five pillars every nights ( and all duas I know) and after every prayer I read aloud Surat 112 because of the mean. Allah responded me in the way I never imagined . Before I believe Him alone after that I adore Him. He is my everything!

But seeing this person, so beautiful, bright and a face radiating noor, I am can imagine Bilal being very beautiful and radiant, face filled with noor. He is a beautiful manifestation of how hardships should be gotten through, what a lot of us go through is nothing compared to what he went through. He doesn't waste his time being bitter about how unfair his whole situation was, how his whole life was taken away from him at a young age whilst he could've been studying or aspiring to do other things. He understood that if even all the odds are against him, his oppressors are only pawns in a game of chess, they are puppets controlled by strings as the original planner is Allah, and Allah always meant good for him. Guard Allah in your heart and Allah will always guard you. May Allah grant him the highest of levels, and so much happiness to make him forget his hardships, may Allah grant him ease from now till forever.

I learned and got a beautiful understanding by saying God where you see Allah , because at the beginning of the Quran that I have it advised me to say that when speaking to the ones that grew up the same way.. Allahuakbar (God is the Greatest).
