@arsenalx7 I don't charge throughout the day. I've had 2 hours of screen on time today - mostly full HD KZbin and use of the fitbit and caliber apps, neither of which have dark modes so it was just bright white pixels. @@ctrl_x1770 It's pretty atrocious. Oneplus is doing its best to emulate iOS and in the worst possible ways. One example is that they make lockscreen notifications disappear after you have unlocked your phone, even if you don't interact with them. iOS does this, but you can still swipe up and find them, they are just hidden. OnePlus actually just removes them. It's pretty annoying and there are lots of tweaks like that to Android.

@@xuhwj11 Correct, but it can get unsafe to use, just like using an old version of Windows or MacOS with no security updates. Not having the latest security patches promptly is dangerous as critical patches come out monthly. Honestly, it's something people rarely think about until they are impacted. If you want to take the risk, be my guest. Some apps may also be designed to use specific versions of Android to reduce the support needed by the developer. If a bug appears in the OS or an app, it may never be fixed. Why buy something that in two years, will become a security risk with no support when other brands/manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung, and Pixel will support their devices for 7 or more years? Other brands like OnePlus are also easier to mod and install custom ROMs on which has frequent updates when the manufacturer no longer supports them.

The battery mostly depends on the chipset and optimization. If the chipset is bad (example Snapdragon 888) and the OS is optimized, you'll get bad battery. If the optimization on the OS is bad but the chipset is good, you'll get bad battery too. There's many things to include to expect some good SOT (screen on time) from the device, and if one fails to impress, either optimization or the chipset, you'll be disappointed.

The SD8G4 is based on something other than the Snapdragon X-Elite, which is dated, probably early 2023 designs. It is gen-2 and will be what the X-Elite Gen-2 is based on. There are two reasons for this: the age of the ancient X-Elite and the court case between ARM and Qualcomm. If ARM wins and the SD8G4 is based on the X-Elite, it could be banned, so Qualcomm redesigned it. Of course, ARM saw this and has withdrawn their licenses to Qualcomm, which, if followed through, would mean they could still ban the SD8G4. Likely, if Qualcomm loses, they will pay the billions to ARM and apologise to save their business.

What a great time to be shopping for a new phone. I just missed it by a year. There's no way I'm upgrading to the ROG 9 Pro, as muchas I'd love to. If you can afford to, I would highly recommend the ROG phone though. However Redmagic has a current generation premium device that won't break the bank. No IP rating though, so its kind of a gamble.

Switching from my realme gt 5g (sd888) to a phone with a sd elite chip is going to feel insane for me. It will basically double the battery life and run a lot cooler which is going to be incredible

Its such a shame that Google doesnt use snapdragon chips anymore. Im not convinced the npu in the 8 elite cant do what the tensore does (and probably more efficient) and they used to add their own chip on the device for image proccessing before. I would switch from iPhone to the Pixel but i dont want half the performance headroom for the same price.

Google is doing what Apple is and cutting Qualcomm out. This stops feeding a rival and means costs can be reduced. For example, Apple pays around $50 to TSMC to make Apple Silicon, whereas OnePlus will have to pay over $150 to Qualcomm for the SD8G4. Google is hoping to be as cost-effective as Apple. Samsung has also tried this with Exynos, but to date, they have been unable to compete.

Can you also talk about the new battery tech itself starting to roll in this generation as well? Especially the Chinese brands have already been releasing Silicon-Carbon or Graphene battery tech and I think this also makes quite a difference over the standard Lithium-Ion in both battery life and longevity as they also supposedly produce much less heat, even with fast charging.

At this rate the one plus needs to have better cameras. I owned a 7Pro and it was behind other flagships at the time. Nowadays they’re charging very close to flagship prices and still lagging behind even a pixel or iPhone from last gen. Pictures are ok for the most part but video really puts them in shambles. I loved one plus for what it was back in the day but I can’t justify spending more than $700-800 on a phone if it doesn’t outperform a last gen phone.

Right now im using 7 gen 3 with 6k mAh i can easily last 10 hrs screen time or more with some gaming and light usage, with mobile data on and also some hotspot since i mostly use laptop to do things. I think we don't need anymore powerbank to carry since the battery life so good now and also the charging speed is fast enough, just hope there will be smaller charger that will replaced powerbank use soon
