You're right, in the end it's the overall time the battery will last in your day to day use that matters, but it's still interesting to look at the relative values as it shows that the Mate 20 and the two Samsung are the ones that performs the worse and the Mate 20 only last because of its bigger battery. Should it matter? You'd say no and I agree but still yes a bit, it tend to show that in this area Apple did a great job with their battery optimization while at the same time having a really powerful phone, it would be great if the others would put more effort to optimize their batteries as well as Apple did, because if the manage to fit a 4200 mAh battery in a phone as optimized as the Iphone XS that would be quite huge

Fast charging is a solution created by a problem with bigger batteries needing a longer time to charge. Battery degrades as you charge it and it degrades faster even when you fast charge it Aiming for better battery life by being more efficient is the right way. The Xs has the most efficient battery at 5.8 mAh drain per minute. For Android the Pixel 3XL has the most efficient battery at 7.7 mAh per minute. The Samsung Galaxy s9+ is the least efficient at 8.9mAH per minute. Just thought I'd share all my hard work to calculate the efficiency of the different devices.

As a complete package, the iPhone's have more efficient batteries, and the Samsungs are less efficient. That's why the Note 9 has a 4000maH battery, while the Xs has a 2,658maH Battery. The OS's are worlds apart, and the hardware on the Samsung phones have more sensors and biometrics.

That's because the manufacturing process. Remember A12 chip it's made in 7nm, while all the other ones are made in 10nm. Also iOS is not capable to do multitasking. It cuts the progress in one app, and starts another one. If you don't believe me, then you can see the Note 9. You can put several apps working at the same time in the screen. @@edbt158 Incorrect - the Kirin 980 in the Mate 20 Pro is 7nm fab. Theer are other elements to this efficiency numbers. E.g. the Mate 20s screen is 3120 x 1440. Even tho he has set a lower res in the OS in this test - the hardware STILL have to update all those pixels since they are lit. Also the Mate 20s have 8 CPU cores and 6Gb of ram while the Apple phone has 6 cores and 4 Gb of ram - all that needs to be powered. Without a detailed analysis of all the processes running - and presumably doing something helpful - it is not very useful to look at these efficiency numbers.

By far the best batteries are the iPhones, considering they have a lot smaller batteries then all of the rest they but out performed all of them. You can talk about resolution and ram power that run all of the applications but putting this aside if, you convert them all to the same 1000 mAh battery size the iPhone XS comes in at 2:51 hrs, and the mate pro with apparently the best comes out at 2:02 hrs a huge difference. It just shows that having a bigger battery isn’t always better, I think that if the other companies needs to look at optimisation like apple, you would see 10 hrs plus run time easy.

I just got the xr and it’s funny people are trying to give me shit and say things like “ how’s that battery life ?!” And im like well I only have to charge once every two days for about 2-3 hours max so I think it’s great. Raged_wumpie 24 my battery is now at 19% after charging all last night when I slept but have been at about 80% brightness in the heat outside all day streaming shows and KZbin for a new adjusted number of 9am - 5pm used 81%. But I’ll have to stop using extensively at this moment and charge it again tonight but this is most I’ve ever been on it and I know it will make it till I get home tonight I charge with the last 19% which when I just message and Snapchat even this will last me till tonight . I’ve had 10% last me an entire day before . Just depends what you’re doing . Had xr for 6months now .

Biggest issue I have with this test, as you were going through on the screen brightness. Some phones were set to set to higher brightness than others. This can skew the results. A better test would have been setting them to max brightness and proceeding from there.

Great comparison test. This really shed some light on battery optimization and I'm honestly impressed by some of the results of such heavy usage. My phone of choice didn't do bad at all, so I'm rather excited to upgrade this week. A few tweaks and it'll probably hit or slightly cross that 8 hour mark. Samsung needs to do something about that S9+, however. It's being carried by capacity almost exclusively. That's inexcusable power waste.

@@004vamsi Bigger or smaller batteires, all deteriorate at same pace. But, bigger batteries ensures even if they lose out much of its juice, it still would be capable enough bcoz of longer battery life cycles. The more you charge and dicharge your battery, the faster the battery degrades. Moreover, here Huawei's implementation of Li-ion battery with graphene layer, makes sure it would last longer and attain its max capacity for much longer(though just a claim by Huawei, future will tell about it), still Huawei leading battery capacity, not just with sizes but also innovations, with that 40W fast charger, is just insane. True respect for them, and I hope they acheive better results for the following years.

Roxor 17 yep that’s not the case for deterioration because in one year if a better loses 10% of its capacity its 3780mAh ( from 4200 mAh ) for Mate 20 Pro and 2440mAh( from 2710 mAh ) for iPhone X so, in a way Mate 20 loses more per mAh. These are theoretical ofcourse but if you use your phone more than 2-3 years the larger battery will deteriorate faster.. Also, yes! Mad respect for the 55Min 0-100 charge for Mate 20 Pro and that 40W charger can charge an ultra book to!

It's pretty new though so I expect will get better with optimisation Like the mate 10 pro. Mine is pretty much impossible to flatten in a day with heavy use. I tried once but it got to 2am and I ran out first. Phone still had 13 percent left. I think all of these are gonna make a day easily. What shocked me is mate 10 pro has 4000mah, LG G5 had 2800. Yet mate 10 pro lasts 7 hours versus 3 for screen on over a full day. Massive difference.

The batteries in Samsung's become terrible after a year. They're great for the first few months.. But the frequent heat from fast charging, and super high resolution really takes its toll on the battery. And to be honest, it was like that before WQHD+ and fast charging too. I'm sure most phones are like this to be fair, but Samsung's are notorious for it.
