1a) Valley of the Kings: Afterlife (official solo rules) 1b) Pathfinder Adventure Card Game (when I play, I really enjoy it, but VotK is such a quick setup and small footprint, so VotK gets to the table much more often) 3) Friday 4) Descent 2nd Edition (a card-driven automated overlord varient from bgg) (again, I enjoy it, but the long setup and cleanup makes it get to the table much less frequently) 5) Onirim 6 is a couple free print-and-play roll-and-write games that can be found on BGG, in no particular order 6a) Utiopia Engine (you play as an alchemist, trying to prevent the destruction of the world by finding parts for an ancient machine and assembling them) 6b) Doom Realm (you play as three heroes, exploring an area, fighting enemies, gaining treasures, and ultimately facing an upgraded boss, which gets stronger the longer you play) For the last three, I've only played them Co-op, but I want to try to play them solo, because I did like them in Co-op version. Future-1) Orleans (Sorry, Colin, I'll get to it!) Future-2) Paperback Future-3) Forbidden Island Playing this list helped me to realize that I don't really play a large spread of solo board games. I play a few games, but typically, other than this small list, I play board and card games when I have friends to play with, and do more research than anything when I'm not playing with people. The games on this list are pretty much all of the modern solo board games I've played.
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
SWEET Thanks for sharing Luke!! I am so excited to try Valley of Kings it is not even funny. I agree I sometimes feel like I do more research about games than actual gameplay. . . hahah what does that say?

Let me suggest a top 10 list - Top deep solo games that are easy to get to the table... It is about the ratio between the amount of game vs how cumbersome it is to set it up, understand the rules, length of play and commitment required (crazy campaign mode). With work, small kids, busy life, despite loving all these big games, it is great when you find these games, euros or adventurers, that one can open and play in a decent amount of time, once per week or so, without having to commit heavily, and still have a deep experience (meaning I dont want to see One Deck Dungeon as number 1 hehe)... I guess the list would have to be skewed towards adventurer games since euros are naturally easier to get to the table and play an one off session... ;-)

Good to see you removed the cast! Wish you a swift recovery. I don't usually play solo but the ones I've tried solo and liked are Scythe, Robinson Crusoe, Superhot, and a non-finalized solo variant of Great Western Trail and Cry Havoc. I will be trying Anachrony, First Martians, and Triplock in few months. I've preordered Gloomhaven but not sure if it's good as a solo or not.
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
YES! Feels amazing to have that thing off! Still haven't played Scythe solo, can't wait to try! And I have heard Western Trail and Cry Havoc have pretty awesome non-official variants now I think jPlay did a runthrough of one of them recently!) Have fun with Anachrony, First Martians and Glooomhaven. So SOME people love Gloomhaven solo, I just prefer it Co-op since I have a group, and there is a lot to keep track of on your own.

Thank you for this list. I was on the fence about Spirit Island but your praise put me over the fence. The way you conclude each game with things why you might or might not like that particular game was very insightful. I was also happy to see my current fave - Robinson - on it. Some other games I wonder if you considered them: Legendary Encounters Alien, Viticulture, and Tiny Epic Galaxies.

Hi Colin, good list! Congrats on the 1 year anniversary! I have really enjoyed watching your playthroughs! Three stand outs for me which I don't own and need to check out is S&S (i have GD and been enjoying that and I heard S&S is built off the same engine?), Runebound and Spirit Island. A couple of my faves from your list are Mage Knight and Anachrony and I have kickstarted TMB and GoK. I have Nemo's War and Robinson Crusoe which are also great games but very much on the harder side!

Nemo and Spirit, both amazinggg games! Mage Knight - there is something about the adventure and the slow build of your character that REALLY clicks for me! Never tried the Star Trek version, can you play that one solo? Xia I got SO LUCKY to find a cheap copy, I hope you can too!

Thanks you. I have quite a few of these, based in many cases on your demos. Nemo's war is my favorite of those on your list. I would also recommend "This War of Mine": another game that is clearly best played solo. Spirit Island is great as a co-op as it eliminates the Alpha Gamer. Glad to see from the intro that your hand is healing.

Just out of interest, how come This War of Mine didn't make the list? Was the list made before you played it, or did you just not enjoy it that much?
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
Great question! TWoM did not make the list as it is not one I am planning on keeping. The story is so immersive, but 3 things hurt it for me. 1. The length. The game is so incredibly long! And unlike other long games I have (Mage Knight for example) I feel like it overstays its welcome on my table. 2. Although the game is dripping with theme which I LOVE, the theme is too dark for me personally. I play a game for enjoyment, not for pain and suffering. 3. Randomness - I feel that a game like Robinson Crusoe has a great balance between random and not random. TWoM feels too random for me personally. Hope that helps!
@NeilBlaiberg7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback - I've never played it myself. The PC game was great, but way too depressing, I find it hard to play more than 20 minutes at a time, so have no desire in the board game. Funny you mention RC - I played it once and sold it - that concept of rolling the dice to see if your action was succesful was horrible. The whole game felt like work
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
HAHAHAHA! I get you on RC, but the fun part of that game is building up from nothing. I like building and RC gives you that feel, plus exploration! Regardless thanks for asking!

Finally got round to watching this, enjoyed it Colin, thanks for doing it when we got to number 3 I had already decided what I thought was your number 1 :-) as you had SO much enthusiasm when you played it. Few in there that thought may have been in there but weren't, though did see in your comments below you said that some would have been in your top 30....haha now that I would like to see that would be a super long upload :-) So did you not like 7th Continent??
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
HAHAHAH yeah top 30 would be LOOONNNGG! This was long enough! For 7th continent, I made a rule I had to of played the game at least 4 times to be on this list, so 7th Continent would be cut for that reason alone. BUT for me personally, I did not enjoy 7th Continent as much as I thought I would solo. Now I just did a session with my wife a day or two ago, and enjoyed it much more. She is much more observant than I am, and she helped me slow down. So for me personally, 7h Continent is not a solo game :) Hope that makes sense! Oh and thanks for watching, sorry it is so long hahaha!!
@MJGOLDHEART7 жыл бұрын
Hey don't apologize I liked the long upload :-) I just made a cup of tea (so British) and enjoyed watching and trying to guess which one would be next :-) I enjoy 7th Continent solo I can tell it is not for everyone and if you aren't observant or do rush through it then you are missing out on the experience. Glad that you are getting your wife to play with you though! Am deciding whether I would like Spirit Island. Quite a few people have said like yourself how great it is. Then I have read that it is really hard to grasp the rules as there is a lot going on. How was learning the rules for yourself?
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
HAHA love it! I had a cup of hot chocolate while working on making the video. . . is that close enough to tea? :) And yes 7th Continent is all about being observant, and looking closely at the cards. . . which I am terrible at. Why do you think I enjoy real time games so much, you don't think you just do! Yeah my wife REALLY likes it, she is VERY observant which makes it a ton of fun! As for Spirit Island, the ruleset is simple, people just got bent out of shape due to the Fast and Slow mechanic for the power cards. Once you get that under your belt, the ruleset is simple! And if you have watched a playthrough (Ant Lab Games has another great playthrough of it if interested) it really is not complicated at all. Just don't play your first game with 4 people. . . do it solo! Hope that helps!
@IpsilonVr7 жыл бұрын
Great list! Thanks for the video. Apart from Nemo's war, I think all these games were not specifically designed for solo playing. Nemo's War really shines because you can tell it was designed with one player in mind. Any other great games out there which, like Nemo's War, were specifically designed for solo pay?
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
Yves - Thanks so much for watching! You are right, most of these are not specifically designed for solo play, but a game like Mage Knight is very much a 1 player game unless you want to spend 10 hours playing one board game :) Other great solo only games would be Friday, Sharazad, The Game, any of the Onirim series, a ton of Victory Points games like Infection, Conflict of Heroes with the solo specific expansion. TONS of them, I just generally lean towards games that can be played solo or multi-player. Thanks for asking!

@LuckeyJeb7 жыл бұрын
Nice. I started playing Perdition's Mouth right after having sunk hours into Gloomhaven and not gotten very far. It was a really pleasant change of pace to be putting my effort into the actual playing of the game vs. Gloomhaven where I found it so fiddly and time consuming. I love Gloomhaven but the amount of effort you had to put into each scenario was too much for me. If it played as smooth as Perdition's Mouth I'm sure I'd still be playing it, or have it beat.
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
Ahh good to know! YES Gloomhaven is VERY fiddly, hence the reason I prefer it co-op where you can give different players responsibilities for the enemies etc. Makes life a lot easier. Looks like Perdition might be a better solo game for me. Thanks!!

Quick not-quite relevant question to ask the viewers: I need a couple suggestions for a game that fits the following specifications: 1) Easy to teach to non-gamers, 2) Scales well from 2-6 players, 3) is fun. Great work and I love your review. What were you considerations for the list as I am very shocked Gloomhaven isn't on the list and Descent 2.0 with the advent of the app. That is great for solo play. Also Mansions of Madness 2.0 is a great game for solo play. Hope you do more games like this.
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Charles! Good question about Gloomhaven, so I play this with a group of 3, and so it just is not a game I want to play solo. There are a lot of moving parts to keep track of, and I found I had so much more fun playing co-op vs. solo. Descent still haven't tried, and I was not a fan of Mansion of Madness, not my type of theme or game TBH. Thanks so much for commenting! Do you have a top 10? :) I would love to know!

Colin with a 2 yr and a 4 yr old my top game is anything I can get to the table...lol.. Honestly though I don't really have a top 10 list as my taste for games and wants of playstyles are always changing. I am very much stuck on Frostgrave right now. As a family we really enjoy Takenoko (collectors edition), Castle Flutterstone, Rampage, and Pitch Car. For the adults we enjoy What do you Meme, Super Fight, Dice City, and on the rare occasion Mechs vs Minions.

Kevin for me personally yes. I wanted to play with 3 characters solo, but with trying to manage all the hands of cards, the AI etc. it was little too much for me solo. I will say I probably didn't give it enough effort either as I only tried on 2 different occasions and just stopped as I made so many poor mistakes. ha! Hi! Great job, as in almost all the others "tops" there is Robinson Crusoe. Its author, Ignacy Trzewiczek, can be read as [egnatsy tsheveecheck] :)

Thank you Pawel!! I can hardly pronounce my own name ha, much less Ignacy's!! Thanks for the help!

Great Video, time to start shopping! I'm missing a few from your list that look really good. My top 5... 1. Kingdom Death: Monster 2. RAF Battle for Britain 3. Mage Knight 4. XIA 5. Too Many Bones Happy Anniversary!
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
Sweet Michael!! Looks like I need to look into RAF battle for Britain. Is it a war game specifically for solo? Who designed it?
@MeltdownHale7 жыл бұрын
There is a lot of game in the box. There is a rule book for playing solo as the Allies, one for playing solo as the Axis. There is also one for playing with two players. It's a game by John Butterfield, a brilliant solo game designer!
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
SWEET sounds like I need to do some research thanks!!!

Going to check this out for sure thanks Paul!!

One Stop Co-op Shop If you want to later explore solo wargaming further into tactical combat, I recommend Conflict of Heroes with the Solo Expansion (expansion is from the same designer as RAF BoB). It is a real breakthrough in AI design.

I like the theme of Spirit Island but it looks a bit complicated
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
It is honestly not that complicated once you figure it out! Trust me it is worth it!! Love the game! Thanks for watching.

Hi. I have one complaint. If I buy you recommendations I surely have to pay 1.000 €. That's a lot. Most games you recommend cost 80 € and up. Is there no games which are not that expensive and fun solo?
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
Hi there! There are tons of games that are great solo under 80 bucks! Dresden, roll player, clank baseball 2045, all should be under that. But there are games like Friday that are cheap as well. I have a top 10 small footprint coop games you can check out that most can be played solo and are inexpensive. Hope that helps!
@yasashiiasobi73037 жыл бұрын
One Stop Co-op Shop Yes. But I really would like to have a choice of cheaper great games to play solo. I have Friday for example or Pathfinder. Both great games to play solo.

Hi Colin... When you compare Robinson Crusoe to First Martians, is it really just a matter of theme for you or is there something about the game itself? I understand FM had many issues with rules book so that is truly impacting its ratings, but I wonder if past that the games are really basically the same... Thanks
@OneStopCoopShop6 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm good question. The games are SUPER similar so I would say that if you prefer sci fi over fantasy First Martians is actually quite good. Just watch the Watch it Played video on the game, it will help! Overall though both games have really been pushed out of my top 10 due to the event cards and the ruleset can be quite a challenge!

Wow... so will be seeing a new top10 soon? Just reliazed this list is exactly 1 year old...

I haven't done a lot of solo gaming before. But am considering it since it's hard to get a group together for some of these games.

Gears of War is also great for solo playing! Regarding MK, what do you think of Shades of Tezla?
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
Ahh such a great one! That one and Fireteam Zero I need to get to the table again. Thanks for the reminder!!
@kevinerskine32997 жыл бұрын
Juan, if you care if someone else answers instead of Colin as I don't think he's played it yet. It does add new scenarios, but I find that it doesn't really add more fun, just more complications. I have 60+ plays of the base game and Lost Legions and only 1 of Tezla, but I honestly don't see myself going back to it. I get so much fun out of the others that I see no need for the extra overhead. So I'll just shuffle in the monsters with the others and ignore the faction stuff.
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
Kevin is the one who actually taught me Mage Knight, through skype in a 6 hour session starting at 7pm at night! I would listen to him, he knows better than me. I totally missed your question about Shades of Tezla, and no I have not played it so can't comment. Thanks Kevin and Juan!!

Did I miss Fireteam Zero on the list?
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
Nope not on the list, but that is very likely just because I have only played it once. I need to get it to the table more to be able to determine if it would make a top 15! Same thing with Gears of War

Spirit Island Solo, Do you usually play with 2 spirits or 1?
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
Hmm great question Carlos. For me personally I prefer 2 as I like to see how the spirits interact with one another. That being said, people who are good at the game tend to play it with 1 spirit at a VERY high difficulty level. Hope that helps!

Fantastic list and reasons given!! Whilst my top 15 may be in a different order (everyone's list will be different 😊), and I love playing Aeon's End with 2 Breach Mages, I can't argue with the points you made on each game mentioned. Well done, very informative!!

Thanks so much!! Yeah the best part about this world is we all have our own opinions, and I love seeing other people's top 10 lists as it just shows you how many games you haven't played and how varying our opinions are. Thank you very much for watching! (p.s. I love your name!!)

Alright, so the big question is: after one year, how does your wife feel about your channel?
@OneStopCoopShop7 жыл бұрын
Good question! I know she thinks I spend a lot of time on it, which I do, but she also appreciates it's my passion. Plus she has been in quite a few as well, so that has been fun. I think she will be helping me with Flip Ships and Aeon's End! (I hope!)
