First review I see that is not overhyped. Is great when you see a review that is honest and can really help you to know the game better in order to see if the game is for you.

Mike, you always talk sense. I just don't hear succinct pros and cons from anyone else. You are insightful, too. I was disappointed that I missed this game release - but not so much, now. I have games still in their wrappers calling out to be played! A big thumbs up for this review. 👍

Really insightful review as usual, 7C and Tainted Grail are among my all time favorites, I haven't played Sleeping Gods yet but I didn't realize it could be compared to these two games

Thank you for sharing. I agree with all 5 of of your points. And, you're right - it's tough to distill the game into 5 points, but you did great in doing so. Sleeping Gods was my most anticipated KS for 2021 and I started playing it as soon as it arrived and played through a campaign (by campaign I mean I played for a set time/actions). I enjoyed almost everything about the game. But, although I did enjoy the game a lot I found it lacking. The aspect that I found lacking was major for me. It's probably just me, but I wanted an epic story that tied most everything together (however long that might take), but that wasn't what I found. I found a lot of great short stories. That is okay and see that some may prefer a game like that. Play through some stories, put it way, play some more stories later, rinse and repeat. During my 'campaign' I found an ending to some stories, but many I didn't because the campaign time/action count ran out. If I played another campaign I would replay some stories, find new stories, but once again wouldn't have time to finish all the stories. I didn't want that.
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
Yup, totally agree. It's got that open world thing going on, for good and bad. It reminds me of Fallout or Skyrim, but where you never pursue the main quest, but just bounce around having little adventures.
@BouPreUWere3 жыл бұрын
Aw, I was hoping for an epic tale too. Do you have recommendation for the one with epic stories though?

I'm super curious. What are those two games on the shelf behind you with boxes that look like books?

Dice Throne Adventures, and the Season 1 collected fighters box. Season 2 fighters are to the left, but I bought them separately, so no big collection for them :)

I think the best thing about the game is that all the issues are pretty easily house ruleable. For example I’ve heard people complain about the fact that you have to get rid of your skills at the end of each round but you can simply decide not to. Some complain that you don’t get to keep anything you’ve discovered between each campaign and again you can choose go just pick a few things to keep. Some complain combat is too hard because enemies attack after each person attack then all attack again at end of round. Again easy to just ignore that extra attack at end of round. I love the game and think it’s by far one of best games of its kind and for me miles better than Tainted Grail
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
Great points Erik, and yeah, for me too, TG is a distant memory compared to SG. Tainted Grail REQUIRED house ruling in my opinion, and even then was kind of a slog, whereas even by the book this one is generally a pleasure for me.

YOU DO SUCH AN EXCELLENT JOB, MIKE 👏😊 of encapsulating the key points of any game & presenting them in a coherent & logical fashion - & in a commendably concise manner - thereby allowing any would be purchaser to decide whether it’s a game for them or not. 🤔 That is NOT always an easy task - especially with some of the more complex & involving games… which makes the job you do all the more impressive & very much appreciated! 🏆🥇 WELL DONE & MANY THANKS! ~ LOUIS C.

The 15-hour campaign is appealing to me on paper. I kind of burned out on huge campaigns the size of Gloomhaven. I'm hoping each SG campaign is satisfying in its own right and feels complete. I think I'd be ok putting 6 months or a year or two between campaigns. How did you find setup/teardown?
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
Set-up and teardown can be annoying, depending on your storage situation, because you have to keep track of all the upgrade cards and such you had and reset them for the next session. It's comparable to 7th Continent in this, if you've played or seen that. As for each campaign feeling satisfying on its own, one potential issue is that, because each quest is mostly its own discrete story, you might not feel like the campaign overall is cohesive enough. It didn't bug me much, but I can see it not working well for some.

I've been debating between this and 7th Continent and I think the table sprawl of this is just too much. Really like the depth of this short review though.
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Not sure 7th Continent has better sprawl once you get exploring a bunch, just to warn you ;)
@DrMcFly283 жыл бұрын
@@OneStopCoopShop 7th Continent contains the sprawl mainly between the Itemstacks and character hand, so I find it much more manageable. Sleeping Gods just... gets everywhere.
@Alex-mf8qm3 жыл бұрын
@@OneStopCoopShop True but I feel like the sprawl for 7th Continent is at least related to the exploration as opposed to just the set up of a 9 player co-op Solo game.
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
@@Alex-mf8qm can't argue with that! :)
@DrMcFly283 жыл бұрын
The "sprawl" is the main reason why I'm not grabbed by this game. It kinda feels as if I'm 9-handed soloing it, and it's just too much.
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
Yup, can definitely see that, though since characters don't have individual turns, it's not as bad as it might seem.

The idea of having to reset upgrades within a campaign just to do it again just irks me. My inner JRPG New Game+ fan boy is screaming no on this one. I’ve been intrigued by the gameplay, but I might find an online campaign play through to experience the core story.

We were really disappointed with Sleeping Gods, probably because we played multiplayer and it is evidently best played solo. I really disliked the art on the fatigue tokens as well. It felt like assigning a 'piddle puddle' of sorts, i.e this character has managed to wet themselves....🤷♂️
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
LOL, I never paid attention to the fatigue art, but that is HILARIOUS! And yeah, I think I mentioned it in my review, but this is very much one of those games where multiplayer is basically just taking solo and divvying up the elements between people. I like that best with 2 players, and find it more annoying with more.

On some other you seems to be calmer.. and your buddy Colin is joy to listen. I am not saying you are not having anything to say - quite opposite - I subscribed for very good content. This American way of overenegetise speaking throws me back. Colin seems to be also more careful of what he says. Your audience comes from different places in the world so it is worth to consider.. Just a bit of constructive criticism.

I do get more excited about some games than others. Another thing to try if some videos are tougher to follow. The closed captions KZbin does automatically tend to be almost 100% accurate to what I am saying, if you're the type of person who doesn't mind subtitles :)
