I'm sure nobody cares, but the God rays in the mansion level aren't really rendered with lighting. Developers often just make 3d models that look like light shafts and make it transparent, then add some dust particle effects to make it look better. They do that in Half-life alot. I think it's pretty neat-o

If I remember correctly Crash 3 had the same thing with the thing chasing you in chase sequences breaking boxes and having it count to your total

The old models of the PS3 weren't actually emulating the PS2, they had effectively an entire PS2 embedded into them. Sony stopped doing that later since it was pretty expensive.

I grew up with the originals too. I liked this one as a kid, but looking back on it now it's pretty eh. At least visually anyway. I'd still replay it. But at the same time, I only played the PS2 version. I didn't know it was on GameCube as well before now and dang does it look bad on that console.

Just a note the crate counter thing was the same in Crash 3 dinosaur levels, when the triceratops broke the crates it would add to the counter

Boulders / Bears / Triceratopses breaking the boxes has always counted. The first game was the only time the boulders didn't break the boxes at all.

Pretty sure the main reason people recommend PS2 over GC is purely for performance, the level design and animation do run identical (as far as I know), but it's at least physically slightly less unpleasant

I remember this game, and even as a kid i thought it was total trash. How ever its bearable to watch cause of the 10/10 commentary. Though MOST of the angry internet nerds who get mad at the uys for giving the game shit, only remember this game through the rose colored glass known as nostalgia.
