Suikoden (Part 49) Gremio's Death

R.I.P. Gremio. For about half the game, I thought you were a woman. You were a great partner and friend. I remember trying to get the perfect ending [ *SPOILER* ] where the power of the 108 Stars of Destiny resurrects him and see him in Suikoden II as a kid. I love the Suikoden series. ;-;

Gremio's death scar me deeply for 25yrs, I was literally shaking holding the controller and STUN as a teenager. Until I learned that you can revive him at the end. My life is nearly complete....

I love how you essentially have to forgive Milich for killing Gremio in order for you to be able to resurrect him. That really stuck with me when I played this as a kid.

This moment is first time my tear drop for a game , before i play suikoden 2 and they did again to me when nanami death scene (when you didnt know abour pefect ending) Miss the game with great storyline

After the disappointment that was Beyond the Beyond, I was starving for an excellent PSX RPG. I rented this on a whim at the age of 11, with no previous knowledge of it, and fell in love with it instantly. But then, this scene happened, and I was shocked and devastated. I remember sitting catatonic in denial of what had occured. I even reloaded the save to try and look for another option (since you could spare Kwanda I assumed there HAD to be a way) but to no avail. I applaud the artistic choice in following the scene without music (as the jaunty castle tune would have destroyed the mood). Honestly. I remember this scene hitting me harder than the death of Aeris (not knocking that scene at all, but I at LEAST always had Gremio in my party). Upon beating Milich, I was craving vengeance...but also realized that he, like Kwanda before, was a victim of Windy's mind control....so I spared him. But I won't lie, my 11 year old self waited a LONG time before choosing that option. I was so furious after my first playthrough of the game when I learned I could have saved Paun AND Gremio. I soon rectified with a second goaround. 2 years later I would play Metal Gear Solid, and to my surprise, Psycho Mantis asked: "So, you like Suikoden don't you?" I smiled and thought: "You're goddamn right I do."

I agree with you, however I don't think it's sadder than Aeris' death.. Everyone is entitled to there own opinion but you don't actually see Gremio die. I think Pahns death is sadder though.

It's the sacrifice he made, the fact he holds on despite what must be excruciating pain to impart his last words to his master. And when McDohl runs to the cloak, and drops to his knees, it hit me harder than Aeris on a personal level.

@AlainWinthrope gremio said so himself that the door was only able to be closed by the lever on his side.so he had pull the lever, which supoosedly closed the door right away, or his comrades might have got affected by the spores. (if it really was able to multiply, spread, or grow to a shitload)

Actually, when doing a war on Suikoden 1, I remember Luc dying. I thought it was part of the story but I was wrong, and I saved over the previous save so I had to complete the game without him. He said something like "I guess this is fate"

Think the only way to same Gremio is obtaining the 108 stars. Then I guess he manages to escape somehow. My guess is, the spores was on his clothes or maybe and i think he covered the spores or gas with his cape and other clothes and maybe found a way to escape.

Playing the game for the first time - wasn’t worried about recruiting every character. Just wanted to see the story and move on to Suikoden 2, etc. came to this video to see how other people reacted to his death. thank you comments section for providing spoilers about what happens if you recruit all 108 stars - must bring back Gremio !

Memento Mori there are 5 main series suikoden games as far as I know. Suikoden 2 was a ps1 game, but you can also download the digital version to play on a PS3 / Vita as well. I’m in the middle of 2 now and it’s awesome so far.

In Final Fantasy 7, Aerith dies, I laugh and my older brother is sitting next to me crying. ( I hated her) I play Suikoden, Gremio dies, my brother sits next to me being happy, seeing he hated Gremio. Complete 108 Stars of Destiny and don't let Pahn die on a battle against Teo Mcdohl, always let Pahn on your party and Cleo too to make them stronger. You can upload Suikoden 1 to Suikoden 2 too, to recruit Tir McDohl.

suiko 2,3,4,5 tier, tsumugareshi are the only suikodens that can die in wars, each suiko has higher rate

yes they can die. when you play suikoden II sometimes the characters get injured in wars. Once one of my characters got three swords and he died. I didn`t want to believe this but when i checked the 108 stars of destiny stone tablet his name was grey that means he is dead i dont know whether you are playing suikoden I or II but i think the characters can only die in suikoden II because in suikoden I wars all characters are together. when a character dies just load the game its absolutely nothing

VirusEffect X not to keep him from dying but he can be resurrected once you have the other 107 characters before the last war battle at the floating fortress Shasarazade . He gets resurrected by Leknat in the War Room at the Liberation Army HQ with all of the characters present. You MUST get all of the other characters or this won't happen.
