Another important thing that Subaru's mom told him is: "It's ok to cry as long as you can smile when you're done [..] what matters isn't the start or what happens in the middle. It's how it ends." at first Subaru misinterprets this as "[..] as long as things turn out ok in the end, nothing else matters?" basically an end justifies the means mentality. His mother corrected him saying this isn't how he should take it and to leave it as homework for him. I think this is an important message here, don't do the wrong thing for the right reason, act in such a way that at the end you can still smile, don't lose yourself.

Well, Echidna says as much during the next episode. That they were just ideals formed by using Subarus memory, not the real thing. It's intentionaly left ambiguous, whether or not they were that great, and I believe that's was a perfect way to finish that mini-arc. Subaru interprets it positively, when he says his parents were way too big to fit into his puny imagination.
@sed93854 жыл бұрын
@@Zonca2 i genuinely believe that Echidna actually faithfully represented Subaru's parents. Because: First, its a trial. It's supposed to be hard. It's supposed to challenge Subaru really hard. So, making them kind for the sake of being 'nice' won't make sense. Second, you might ask, why is 'kind parents' a deadly trial for Subaru? The answer is *pride.* Subaru has constantly been called the archbishop of pride and is loved by the dragon known for its pride (plus his actions of course). So, unlike for maybe some or most of us who a hard scolding might work best, for a prideful person (especially ones where their pride came from insecurity), its actually best to deal with them _kindly._ Because believe it or not, that's actually what works the most. Also, remember that disappointing his parents (not living up to his dad) was his biggest nightmare (showed in his constant trying and panic to be _something_ too). Sometimes, it (a trial) doesn't necessarily have to be cruel in a brutal and graphic way. It just have to be cutting. And as we saw throughour blurry vision - that shit worked. It hurt like hell. Third is that Echidna was suprised that _he passed it _*_quickly._* Meaning, she didn't pull any punches. You might ask, "why did she say then that it could've been just an optimistic delusion?" Because Subaru passed the test quickly. She wanted to basically fuck with him a bit. Unfortunately for her though, Subaru is just better as a person now. Fourth, i think another evidence was his dialogue where he said that he wanted his parents to *scold him and hate him and **_make him give up._* Now, scolding and hating makes sense but 'making hin give up' is something out of ordinary. It can't possibly refer to going to school or giving up his neet life because 'giving up' is technically what he was already doing by not going to school. So, the only thing left is *_making him give up to be like his father._* _Because if they scolded and hated him, he would finally stop thinking about making then proud and trying to be like them because he'd actually start to rebel against them._ But _no._ They _continued_ to love and support him even when his choices were questionable which arguably hurts more. And fifth, the fact that his parents were devastated that he just vanished. Normally, if they really are the kind that gets so disappointed and fed up, they wouldn't be as depressed as the author confirmed them to be. All in all, such a well written series 😢👌🏼 i hipe he can go back to his parents somehow 😭
@Fractorification4 жыл бұрын
The author in an interview also confirmed that had Subaru not been Isekai’d, his father would’ve helped him deal with his problems and get the help he needed, so that indicates that they are as supportive as the versions of them in the trial.

Saud Bin talib naofumi is not a better protagonist, his insecurities are not as deeply rooted as subaru’s. Even though in that same episode, we see the blacksmith believe him. He says screw the world, yet not everyone in the world is against him. His hatred feels shallow despite it being somewhat justifiable. Subaru is even a better person that naofumi, naofumi bores hatred towards everyone after the betrayal, but subaru, after getting killed by rem, someone he trusted, still chose to save her and understand her reasons. That's the difference between a good author and a mediocre one. A good author like RE:Zero's author let everything tied up so naturally, that when the big moment lands , all the buildup paid up and everything makes perfect sense. This is what I called good characterization too, which is my favourite thing in anime, which majority of the modern movies lack. Ep4 and Ep8 are such powerful episodes if you can analyze critically about all the events prior to it.

Its all subconscious, you don’t realize you’re doing it. Its because you’re used to people who are like your parents, even if you had really shitty parents. Like if you hated your mom, you’d still probably like a girl who acts/looks like her. This is because you subconsciously WANT a good relationship with your mom, so you’ll try to reenact it with another person. This does NOT mean you’re attracted to your parents. It just means you want to be around people you’re “comfortable” with, if that makes sense

this episode really broke me. I'm so invested in the characters, to the point where I genuinely get sad thinking about how his parents, who have been given such distinct personalities and have had their love for subaru shown so clearly, might not see him again. The fact that he ignored his mother on his way out, and that that was the last she'd seen of him, is so fucking sad. Part of me wants him to have a chance to see his parents for real, to briefly go back, to make sure they know he's okay, that he's living on in another world where he's living what will hopefully, eventually, be a fulfilled life. I want to see him happy with Rem and Emilia, but i also want to see his parents be there for him and understand everything. It's such a heart wrenching situation, but it's so bloody well written. I don't think I've really cared about any show's characters more than Re:Zero's.

One thing that I thought was excellent about this video. Is that it normalised for me how a person/character might still have mental hang ups even if they come from a loving supportive background. You don't need harsh parents or absence to validate why you might have anxieties and this is genuinely the first time I had seen this in a show.
@Jaerek3 жыл бұрын
It's such a cool thing that they didn't go with the "abusive parents" or "tragic backstory" route as most isekai or even anime in general do, feels so much realer & grounded than such extreme circumstances.
@mastershooter642 ай бұрын
yea this is one of the things I really loved, most animes and a lot of stories in general go to the "tragic backstory" route in order justify the main character's issues, there is nothing wrong with that! If done well, that can lead to a great story but there's just something so much more creative about what Tappei does in Re:Zero with Subaru's flaws not stemming form a tragic backstory, but honestly a quite normal one

Now I see why I like this show so much. there's so much human emotion. I can literally relate to what he's feeling. He's not some powerful or 100% good person like other anime protagonist. He's flawed. That's what makes his journey so fucking amazing. When I look at this anime I'm like "damn I'd probably break faster than he did." This is one anime I wouldn't want to be in, but adversity can breed virtue so I guess in a way we all need to be stripped down to ultimately see the person we are and deal with it. No wonder I'd hate being in his shoes that's hard. All the death would mess me up too lol. Those what if chapters would be a few deaths away lol

Yeah this is why I like Re zero, Most Isekai MC Completely forget about their parents, friends and their entire life in their world, legit loves a person from another world rather that their own parents. That's just very shallow and bad writing tbh
@locasaly5634 жыл бұрын
Kyoko Kirigiri Then there is the opposite where the character is always trying to find a way to go back to their original world, without giving a reason why they’re so attached to their world. Especially when the first chapter or so keeps on emphasizing how bad their life was in their world and how depressed they were. But if someone like Subaru wanted to go back to his world it’d make sense since his relationship with his parents has been established.

this makes me want to watch the rest of re zero after season 1. what makes this feel so good is that re zero gives you plenty of understanding, I think, about subaru as a character in season 1. what he's dealing with by the constant failing and dying and having to come back. it is enough of a story by itself. but these later season have context that strengthens that story.

This is so significantly important for the plot and brings Re:Zero so much value narratively saying that omg. Thankyou for the nalyze bro

one of the reasons I like rezero is that it's not specifically an escapism anime. The main character goes through shit and shit and shit, it's not just the "i can do whatever i want in another world" like he's emotionally traumatized, and then gets through that trauma in a real way(normally it might take longer in real life but still) it's just good.

Thats the amasing thing about rezero, it has pretty much the darkest plot of any anime i seen, yet, it leaves me wanting to improve fight and so happy i watched it. and this s2 is making the Plot of "ha ha its a isakai but it all sucks for the MC" into "holy fuck this a deep well thought out message of self improving in a well crafted world with a useless weeb becoming a mother fucking badass chad of a man, facing hell and highwater to save the world from evil" I don't think i really ever seen a MC that have grown this much as character, in the start he took nothing serious and believed he was gonna get it all handed to him and that his power was a amazing gift. Now he sees how weak he is, and how much of a curse he's been given, he doesn't expect to be handed anything if fact he is surprised beyond belief when somone calls him a friend. Death no longer breaks him, but fills him with the will and anger to try harder, and he's begun wishing himself stronger and seeking ways to use his power intelligently. Im feeling hes gonna lose a lot more, before he will become a true chad hero, As he still chooses paths that lead to death of others. sacrifices will have to be mader, his or others. IT would be nice if he finds a way to save everyone with no sacrifices, but this is not that kind of story. And really that would be really fitting, the witch of envy that sacrificed everything to give everyone else happiness, just like the others were revised.

Huh. While watching this video, I figured out an interesting parallel between Emilia and Subaru. Emilia was isolated because of her identity or race, of being feared not only because of her half-elf heritage, but also because of her past. Subaru was isolated because he had a lack of identity. Him trying to be the life of the party only feeds in his insecurities, but when that fails, he feels like he doesn’t really exist. I think that this is rather fascinating. And I wonder if someone will explore this part of his character in a fanfic between the two

a little detail from the novel that didn't make it into the anime was how subaru's dad in subaru's view was a super energetic guy all the time acting like how subaru act all the time except that what subaru see is actually just one part of his dad he show at home, we all have different ways to talk and act depending on where we are, like at work you're more serious, at home you're more casual and so on, but to the subaru of then, he only saw his father's face he showed at home and thus thought that was how he acted always and thus tried to copy him and act in that over dramatic way every time, so ya every little cringe moment he had didn't come out of nowhere but had a deep reason for it as a normal human with many faults

I like the fact that this series doesn't forget that the MC had an identity and a life with (probably) family and loved ones and friends. Most Animes, mangas, and light novels forget that MC had a past with (probably) friends and loved ones and just make them like " Oh, okay I came to this new world and not get truamatized of the fact that I left behind my loved ones and friends from my past life' which is extremely unbelieveable . Like heck, a normal person would freak out and panic and get traumatized for life, thinking that everything they had and accomplished was just gone in a blink.

Subaru's fears and self sabotage are extremely relatable. Even though I don't relate to the place they come from, the most touching things in the show are that people love him regardless of HOW he is. They love him for WHO he is. It's the same reason that Ace's death in One Piece was so touching. It's the same feeling from the questions I know I face, "If I was a complete loser, would anyone still want me here?
