Onkyo is a truly solid company and will stand behind their products. I had a no-sound problem on my Tx-8050 receiver and Onkyo efficiently took care of the problem, paid for both ways shipping too. Fixed at totally no cost and now I am a super loyal Onkyo fan! To prove it I just bought a new Onkyo CD player. It's fantastic. Here is a company, folks, that knows how to treat their customer base and earn your business.

all i am getting is onkyo repair videos constantly suggested by youtube, if you ask me their digital and or theatre stuff must be badly designed because the amount of different failures are insane!

My advice is not to try random KZbin fixes, but rather to contact the company and it's likely they can fix your issue. Good luck with it.

Bought mine at a pawn shop for $125 . did not work because of heat issue. Onkyo paid shipping both ways and did not charge for repair. Listening to receiver now :)

Electronics do this. Almost always heat related. Just because you "warmed it up" with a lamp doesn't mean it's fixed. Would have been nice if you could have talked us through what you were doing. Wasted my time staring at a screen of an open receiver for two minutes.

I don't understand what are they thinking. We have to guess what he did.
@saggman54 Жыл бұрын
@@RafaelPernia he put a light bulb on the chip to warm it up. you can use a hair dryer to warm up that chip (don't even have to remove the cover) then It may work for awhile.

Thanks for this tip! It's not a permanent solution by any means, but at least I've got sound until Onkyo gets back to me.

if you set the reciever to ignore the HDMI board (you turn unit off, then holding BD/DVD, press power, it will power up and say HDMI board:use, while still holding down the button BD/DVD press power, and it will say HDMI board:ignore), then you will hear a click, and it will put out sound ONLY if in pure audio or direct mode. USB/NET will still not work. I found this out on this 809 i have. It works as a amp, but i am sending it to the repair depot tomorrow so it can be fully working.

I tried the hair dryer trick on my 709 but i did not take it apart, and i was worried Onkyo would reject it for their free fix. It did not work. Within a week however they had my unit back and in full working condition.
@andrewstambaugh2403 жыл бұрын
A hair dryer is too cold to remelt the solder. You need either a halogen lamp or a heat gun
@saggman54 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewstambaugh240 it won't melt the solder but it can and does make it work (temporarily). I"ve used a hair dryer to find bad transistors. heat them up slightly and they'll work for a while.

i just bought an old onkyo amp a bit like this as the power spec seemed interesting. I might just tear out all the digital crap and build it as an analogue amp, perhaps with dsp to make more use out of the other channels.

I have the opposite problem. My audio goes out while watching TV so I turn off the receiver and use the TV's audio for a while and then later turn on the receiver and it is working again. This has happened a handful of times. So my problem seems heat related and after a cool down, it's back to normal. I have a TX-NR509.

sometimes the bias potentiometers become oxidised with age, if the pot becomes dirty it can swing the setting way out and overheat the transistors causing a temporary shut down or worse. Clean or change the pots after 10-15 years. Some people/companies add fixed resistance to bias the transistors so as to avoid this problem from ever arising.
@saggman54 Жыл бұрын
make sure you have nothing on top of the receiver, that will cause it to shut down, also you can put a small computer fan on top of it (blowing UP) to keep temps down

I have given up on Onkyo. I bought a TX-SR804 in 2007, died in 2010. Bought a TX-NR708 to replace it. It worked great for a couple of years, then the audio started clicking off & on at random. Had it repaired, and started doing it again a few months ago, and now the audio is completely gone. Going with Denon and not looking back.

Take 2 then u need to take a coolling plate a putt it the chip with paste like ur pc processor so it can let the heat go of the chip now u can play years.. If u want a good solution then u have to take of the chip and reball the chip and solder it on then its as new and it can take 4-5 years before it will break again so use the heat socket to putt on the chip and it wil work forever.

They have terrible circuit designs that often fail in many ways, they should recall all of the boards that fail and replace them with a better design! Or, at least make reparation easy and open source for their clients who are out of warranty etc.

Happened to me 3 times! After my extended warranty company made me take it 40 miles to a repair center they finally told me today they will replace it...with a new Onkyo. Makes me upset but please tell me they have the problem figured out???? So are you guys saying Onkyo will help to fix the problem?

There are 1 or 2 big chips on the hdmi board the chip that gets the hottest is the problem u now what hot can do with metal soldier after a mean its cracks becouse the chip is expanding then the welts break. How u repair ur board very easy heat it up with a air gun or something else protect the otther things around so use alu folie and cut the piece of the chip out. The heat it up carrefully and press it down u need to do this maybe 1-3 times before it work becouse is hard to resolder the joins.
