Having used a friend's curved monitor for a few days, it definitely has pros and cons. Mostly pros, except when editing specific types of videos. It can feel like the video is distorted (like a fisheye lens) and it can be difficult to tell if it's the monitor or my video. It has seriously caused me to rethink my plans to buy one. For office tasks and general content consumption, it's amazing.

You glanced in the direction of image distortion when you were talking about the convex curve of crts but I was kind of expecting you to at some point in the video address the following questions: Does the concave curve of ultra wide monitors distort the image to a person viewing from the recommended pov? If there is a straight horizontal line at the top of the screen, does it not curve along with the top edge? And if so, can graphics hardware (or software?) compensate by distorting the image AGAINST the effect caused by the monitor?
@raymondcjyi2 ай бұрын
agree. buyers do test it first. I thought the curved ultrawide monitor is perfect until I tried writting text on it, personally I prefer text and 2d platformers displayed flat so the curve screen might throw you off slightly if you use place them around the corners. but indeed it is great for 3D games with ultrawide aspect

Many thanks for the video My personal case I trained my brain to see straight lines on a curved monitor (1500R 32" 16:9) @ 90cm. It is more comfortable for the eyes when you scan the edges. For CAD is not a problem because you have all sorts of references so you can tell perfectly what you are doing. I double guess myself everytime y have to change the proportions of an image in Lightroom or photoshop but I don't usually miss. In Premiere if you focus to see it you can tell there is a bend on the timeline because is very long. But if you focus on the job and relax so see it straight. Pros The immersion when playing games and movies Easier for the eyes to focus because all points are at the same distance from you. Cons Not for everyone Need to adjust Not for critical jobs. Not for two people.

Hello I bought my first curved monitor and I have some strange experience. After several days of using that curved monitor I have started seeing other flat monitors, tv's and basically any other flat stuff as curved but in the other direction... Like an old CRT monitor. I am also seeing other straight lines as curved. Can someone tell me if this can cause damage to my eyes and brain, something like a distortion when looking at flat objects being perceived as curved?! Or is it that my eyes are adjusting in some strange way?! I still have 2 days to RMA it!!!

Your brain thinks curved lines are straight because the screen is bending what your brain knows to be straight lines in 3d environments. Now actual straight lines appear curved. It's a type of illusion. But I think because you've likely spent hours staring at it instead of a few minutes like you might an illusion, so it's effect is far longer lasting.
@seramer87522 жыл бұрын
@@ArmadaAsesino So really there's no lasting benefit of curved. In fact, it fucks up flat screens for you since your brain literally distorts your image to compensate.
@supernova47602 жыл бұрын
@@ArmadaAsesino I tried one for 3d modeling. It’s great if you’re working in one area but once you stand up and look from a distance and see your model strangely curved, it starts to mess with you. You really can’t do any free form 3d modeling because you may pushing vertices in the wrong direction.

@equaltoreality8028 Жыл бұрын

Objectively yes. They are objectively better than flat displays, mainly for eye-strain. This isn;'t a new feature they developed to intice users to buy their products; it's just what was going to happen when you have higher resolution displays that people will sit closer to. It reduces eye strain and keeps the viewing angle as close to optimal as possible; this is important because most monitors are not IPS displays which cost quite a bit more. So it was really just a natural consequence of IPS panels costing a lot and company's realizing they could still use VA displays high resolution monitors if they curved the screen, with the added benefit of looking cool and dramatically reducing eye strain.

I'm asking for advice. I intend to buy a gaming monitor, ( NOT for gaming primarily ), but to connect my Samsung Z Fold 3 smartphone, and to use the monitor as a second screen for the smartphone. Primarily to watch movies and videos. Occasionally, there will be some gaming, using my smartphone. I do have a gaming desktop PC, which is an entirely different set up, and I don't need any help with that. Question: Since my smartphone display is 1920 X 1080p resolution, with a refresh rate of 120hz, would I be wasting my money, if I bought a gaming monitor with a higher resolution, ( say, for instance 1440p, and a higher refresh rate, say, for instance 165 or 170 hz )? Wouldn't my monitor be "limited" by the capabilities of my smartphone, and therefore, I would "not" need a monitor higher than 1080p resolution, and also, no higher than a 120hz refresh rate? Same specifications as the smartphone's display? Is that true? Or, false? Thank you very much. I appreciate your input. I think the answer is obvious, ( even to me ), but I want to hear someone else tell me.

If you are programmer and care about your spinal health, you'd throw away your chair get a standing mat and a standing stool and change position often dynamically to stretch actively instead of hanging into stretches every time the same way - thus and with this great information in the video, I'd think a wide flat monitor is better for usual work

As a programmer for over a decade I find standing on my knees and talking a walk often to be beneficial. Standing the whole day…. No way. But I’m getting a fancy electronically adjustable desk soon, maybe them I’ll try the standing thing. Also on topic, I have two 27” curved monitors that I work on and sometime game on. Got them just for my setup to look cool. I really don’t see any technical benefits for work or gaming. I do however have them mounted on those fancy swivel arms and that has immense benefits with being able to move them around and rotate to portrait mode at will.
