I was fortunate to see Jaco three times, twice with Weather Report and once with Word of Mouth BB. The first time totally altered the way I felt about playing bass ( I have attempted to master bass since the 1960’s) and came as a complete revelation. Thanks for the lesson which at least pointed me in the direction of understanding some of his techniques. There will never be another Jaco:- other wonderful players have fabulous techniques but ( for me) I have never heard another player with his musicality, even when he played something relatively simple ( e.g. “ a remark you made”)

@@OnlineBassCoursesI also caught Jaco in the very early 80s.He was unfortunately in his cups that night and pretty out of it.Still I was up close to the stage with the rest of the bass players and still he had us slack jawed with moments of brilliance. You played this line awesome if I may say so.I'm slowly getting it up to speed.

Your channel is one of the best thing the KZbin algorithm has recommended to me. Brilliant channel! All that technique and speed on a fretted bass is difficult, on fretless is monstrous.

Jaco, a one of a kind and his playing was obviously phenomenal. However, I think the thing that set Jaco apart was his imagination and how he wrote his bass lines to both enhance and support the melody line. Dan, this was a great video which covered as intimidating a subject as any how-to music subject... "How to sound like Jaco!" You did a helluva job breaking down some of Jaco's signature pieces and parts! Classic, simply classic!

I love Dan’s videos but I’ve been frustrated trying to find videos instructing intermediate/advanced plucking technique without it being about reading music. Like how hard or soft to pluck, and how to even out the sound of the index finger vs the middle finger while plucking 16th notes. Maybe these are things a player should just discover for themselves, but bass has been my primary instrument for 5 yrs now and all my instruction has been on line and I’m I bit insecure about these issues. I WANT TO GET BETTER, brother !!! Thank you Dan. You’re awesome.

Hey DUDE, I loved the lesson! I'm new, just channel surfing a bit, and came across this. You are SO easy to listen to, I can just sit and let you (ramble?) _continue_ on talking about bass theory and practice, etc, etc. Really amiable and pleasant chap! Knowledgeable, too. OK, I liked and subscribed. Ready for the next one. Oh and BTW, thank you for putting the time and effort into these videos. I know it's a lot of work and I know that there are many more than just me who take the time to tell you how much we appreciate what you do. Thank you, from all of us!!!

Hey, one more thing: That bass you play in this vid, I built one (pretty much) EXACTLY LIKE IT! Bass Ass bridge, Squire Jazz body, Mighty Mite maple neck, Schaller tuners and Audere preamp. Don't know if that matches what you're playing, but damned if it don't LOOK just like mine.

Hi Dan, I really enjoy your channel. I am learning how to implement articulation in my playing and I appreciate your emphasis on these techniques. Please make more videos on Jaco's techniques. Also, what were you running your sound thru on this video? It sounded very cool, somewhat different than your previous videos.

Thanks, Eric - one more about to go live later… it’s the same set up, just with a fretless Jazz bass (with flats). That accounts for the different tone.
