Great DIY video! These sticks look much easier than working with folded sandpaper for detailed work when I finish my embossing tools. I've ruined enough scissors cutting sandpaper that I now use a razor blade and a metal straightedge. The blade will dull quickly, but you just discard it (safely).

I just made a dozen in a few hours. There's a trick to get the folds of the sandpaper lined up just right, but once I got that figured out, it was easy.

Yay!!! I just made my first two, successful, sanding sticks - P600 and P1500. I ended up with a very thin edge of sticky carpet tape along one edge of the stick but I don't supposed this will matter in the long run because it will collect dust etc., and stop being sticky. A very happy 2018 to you and all those you work with, Prof Ahr :-)

Hi Hilary, You're right about the exposed tape. It won't stay sticky for very long. But, now you need to make similar polishing sticks out of chamois. Happy 2018 to you and yours. Thanks for your continued support! : )

Happy January 1st 2018, Prof. Ahr :-) Yesterday I made a chamois polishing stick and I'm thrilled with the effect it has on silver - a really beautiful, satin finish. How come I never thought of this before? You are a mine of information and I thank you for the inspiration you have given to us all over the past year(s).

Oh gosh! I wish I had watched this yesterday! I tried to make a sanding stick on a piece of cylindrical dowelling but I hadn't thought of double sided carpet tape - and anyway, I don't have any (note to self: go and buy some!) - so, I used superglue. Well, it was sort of successful, but the sandpaper has a kink in it so it isn't a perfect cylinder. Now I'll try this method which, I am sure, will be so much more successful.

Hi Hilary, Just so you know, I've tried to make sanding sticks with regular double sided tape. It doesn't work as well as the carpet tape. While you're making sanding sticks, make a few covered with chamois for polishing hard to reach places. Good luck with your creative endeavors. Thanks for your support! : )
