A great video covering the role of a project manager and what responsibilities does a project manager have to go through. Really an impressive lecture showing what skills, knowledge and strategic tactics should a project manager must have.

6:54 may I ask for an example of how engineering project board meetings go? Also, in terms of the deliverables of such meetings are they to 1. inform the stakeholders of the progress of the project, 2. If they propose changes consider whether they are within the scope and/or achievable, 3. Ensure stakeholders are happy (not sure how you'd do this other than showing good progress though)?
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 2 жыл бұрын
Project board meetings are not typically there to inform stakeholders. They are part of the governance process, so their main roles are decision-making and oversight. They may also have a change control function and maybe a stage-gate function too. But for larger projects, I'd expect a change board and a gateway review panel of some kind. How to Manage Change Contro video in the works - here's an article: onlinepmcourses.com/project-change-control-what-you-need-to-know-to-make-it-effective/ Stage-Gate process video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHaZe5pqYsqErtU

Good stuff. You make it come together quite nicely. Did you mention different types of risk mitigation, estimation, etc? I genuinely may have missed it. And what's the diploma course you mention with Mike?
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you NightHawk. At around 5:20 I talk about your responsibility to identify and manage risks. This is an overview, so I may not have covered estimation explicitly, but it is, of course, part of answering 2 'does it stack up?' and 4 'how will you get what you want?" (about planning and scheduling). I am not sure where I mentioned a 'diploma' course, but I expect you were picking up on a reference to the core courses we sell on our website: onlinepmcourses.com/core-project-management-courses/learn-project-management/ If you can find the reference, let me know, and I'll try and help more.

This was great, thanks, I have been researching "what is resource planning in easy language?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Seyily Substratal Smasher - (do a search on google ) ? It is a great one of a kind guide for discovering how to get amazing project management and business templates without the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my neighbour got excellent success with it.

8:42 please may I ask what you mean when interacting with the operational team? What are your tasks that could interfere with the operational team?
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 2 жыл бұрын
The operational team needs to keep day-to-day business operating smoothly. Projects are about changes. So, you need to work together so you can make the changes you need to make, without disrupting things that need to keep working smoothly. An example is the introduction of new software to a process. Another is taking a system offline for upgrading it.

Hi Mike,love your channel,both of them...i have a question from a course i am doing but there is no reference to this question in the text,i`m hoping you might be able to help...the question is "Within Project Management there are those who jump in and get the work done and those who plan everything"
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 4 жыл бұрын
Brian - thank you. It's great to hear you love both of my channels. While I agree with the assertion that "Within Project Management there are those who jump in and get the work done and those who plan everything", I don't think that's how it should be. I don't know what the question is, but I guess it's something about the contrast between traditional, planned, predictive (or 'waterfall') project management and the newer, adaptive, Agile project management approach. However, no professional Agile PM would just 'jump in and get work done' as their PM approach, andy more than a predictive PM would. All professional PMs work within a framework or structure to bring control and governance to an uncertain, complex, and potentially chaotic environment. But if I have misinterpreted your implied question, please do clarify and I'll have another go!

1:53 what do you mean here by developing advocacy? Are you saying that you have one business proposal and you're weighing up the pros and cons of that proposal, i.e what value it gives the company/client?
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 2 жыл бұрын
I'm saying there are 2 ways a business Case is used: One is to make a case in favor of a proposed project. The other is to evaluate the case for a project objectively. I believe the second is better, but it tends to be the organization that sets the rules. Therefore, you need to understand what is required of you.

How do the contingency plans from step 4 differ from the contingency plans mentioned in step 6?
@Onlinepmcourses
@Onlinepmcourses 2 жыл бұрын
In step 4 we build contingency into our plans. We may also create some contingency plans. Step 6 covers the whole risk management process: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rom5kJqgqb2Aic0 for details.
