The Director knows exactly what collectors thrive upon, and at the same time to generate interest in the hobby for new upcoming collectors. Personally, I hope to see the day when the Mint considers commemorative California Gold Rush territorial gold coins, such as the San Francisco Assayer's Office $50.00 slug, same weight and fineness. After all, the Assayer's Office was just a micro version of what eventually became the U.S. San Francisco branch of the U.S. Mint. In other words, this type of coin reaffirms the place in history of the Assayer's Office and its importance in U.S. history, including the Civil War.

not related to this video, but i wanted to tell you about my research in soaking pennies in olive oil to clean them= i have been experimenting for 11 years= what i found= to keep them from changing color,tone you must; use only PURE extra virgin olive oil= you must read the ingrediants only soak them in glass containers, preferably a white bowl and finally, when the oil starts to turn darker green- you must change the oil- this will happen in 3 days to a few months, depending how dirty the pennies were. i soaked an indian head 1868 cent for TEN YEARS = it was unreadable when i got it and it is still dark, but i can read everything perfectly= have fun, anyone who wants to try this

I've always preferred the Peace Dollar design to the Morgan. I dig the whole "art deco" vibe, and the historical significance of the symbolism (the Roman-style "v" for "victory" in "TRVST", the resting eagle) commemorating the world at peace after WWI. I wish I had known about the "Director's Strike" issue! I didn't order these because I'm gonna be spending my money on proofs and especially the reverse proof sets, but if I had known these were out there (I'm assuming they did 200 Director's Morgans too) I may have tried a little harder to find the dough. That said, it seems like this new mint director gets it. It's a great idea, and these things will probably be worth their weight in gold. 👍

You have the right idea. I’d like to know what exactly constitutes these being Directors strikes. Don’t they just push a button these days? What they should have done is punch the directors initials in to the die just the way mintmarks use to be done. This is something she and the mint could have done easily!

These phony rarity Mint gimmicks reflect today's overall shallow, gullible culture and willingness to swallow the bait hook,line, and sinker. These are not legal tender but commemorative OF previous legal tender. Right along with phoney: celebrities, politicians, entertainers, banks, money, musicians and singers, food...the vapid, tedious, vulgar, boring, unreal and absurd. It undermines the credibility of numismatics, insults the intelligence of collectors, reinforces an unholy alliance between the political mint and "capitalistic" and out of bounds certification entities in bed for the mighty (though worthless) dollar.

You're right, but this is even worse than the comic book industry because they at least made more than 200 of them. This will be pretty easy to fake. Also, this is not the first gimmick they ever did there @blake7587 as they gave out "W" mint mark pennies in mint sets in 2019. That's the better way to do something like this where the coin is the rare item and not the packaging, although some people on eBay still want to act like the packaging for the W pennies is a big deal. I put the coins in an album and put the envelopes in a box.

I am gonna need one of the director’s strike peace dollars. There is no coin I love more than Peace Dolllars. When I could barely walk, about 58 years ago, my grandfather gave me the first coin that was mine. It was a 1923 Peace dollar. I fell in love with it immediately because lady Liberty on the peace dollar looks uncannily like my Mom, plus my grandfather gave it to me.

I get calling it a commemorative, but it is legal tender, a real silver dollar, and it's a Morgan. It's not the same as the old Morgans, but a Morgan nonetheless. I love the Peace dollars. It's so nice to have a wonderfully struck example of them. I'm just smitten with Peace Dollars, old or new. My favorite coin.

Commemorative dollars are legal tender as well and they're 90% silver, just a different design, and these are considered commemorative coins and no regular issues.

My Peace and Morgan dollars arrived yesterday and both boxes were tampered with with by someone in transit: Both seals were broken but I didn't realize it until I was inside the house the letter carrier had driven off. Thankfully both coins were still in the box and seemed un-tampered and undamaged. I figured an "inside job." Folks inside the USPS are aware of the boxes and know what to look for but apparently ran out of time in my case before they could filch the contents. The labels read: "STOP. If seal is broken or package damaged check contents before signing receipt." I was never asked to sign any receipt so I consider myself very lucky that I didn't open two packages of "air." Check your deliveries carefully!

I say this all in good fun but I'm a quite appalled at that finish. It looks to me as if like they were sprayed with silver spray paint, or painted with silver nail polish or something. Received my (2) 2023 Peace Dollars today and am absolutely delighted with them! I was concerned the finish may be overly frosted or 'grainy' as on the 1996 Old Mint commem and several USMint products since, but was delighted to receive coins with smooth, even, creamy lustre very similar to that seen on images of 1921 'Satin Proof' Peace Dollars only much better struck and absent of any flaws whatever. Aside from my uncirculated 1921, these are now my favorite Peace Dollars among those that I own though I am also _very_ fond of the privately minted Daniel Carr High Relief 'Broken Sword' overstrikes. I do not regret 'passing' on the '23 Morgans as the finish differs too much from any original Morgan (though somewhat like a 'Zerbe'). I prefer the original Morgan's flat fields and 'cartwheel' lustre to the 2023 issues and also have several lovely 'Prooflike' and 'DMPL' examples. In short, I think 'original' 1878-1904 Morgans look far better than those of 1921 or any re issue I have yet seen, but find these new Peace Dollars to be improvements over the originals. I expect the Proof and Reverse Proof '23 Peace to be exceptionally beautiful or, perhaps, 'over the top' corny. Will see when they arrive as I have two of each on subscription. Suggestion to the Mint for future 'Limited Strike' coins: a different collar could be used for the limited run with lettering, stars, 'interrupted reeding' or some other defining feature, then replace with usual reeded collar for remainder of production run. By the way, it's Tuesday evening (07/18) and the proof 2023 Morgan and Peace _subscriptions_ are still available on the USMint (.gov) 'site. Reverse proofs show "unavailable".

The problem people may have sending in for grading is that they will lose the box. Grading company won't return the box or packaging material.

What is to prevent someone from sending this special Peace coin out for grading having the box and coa returned to them and keeping ithe slabbed coin then change out the coin and sell it at a premium on ebay with the box and COA . I would only buy a slabbed coin with the box and coa

You’re only buying the box and COA, coin doesn’t matter either way. I doubt PCGS will grade the coin from and unsealed box, but they might grade the COA and put the same number on both slabs to prevent that.

The US Mint should have produced 200 high relief 2023 peace dollars to send to customers instead of including the 200 directors strike certificates, at least that way the coin would be more valuable instead of just including a special certificate with the same coin everyone else is getting.

I got screwed on the original issue a year or two ago, twice I was completing an order online and got disconnected, next try said they were sold out. I'm sure dealers had no problem getting them. Mint should have either made more or made it a lottery. Also should have limited it to one apiece.

I like the idea of creating a super short minted variety to be randomly inserted into production. Adds to the thrill of ordering this stuff. The only thing I would like is if they actually did something different with the coins instead of throwing a card (which don't get me wrong, is still cool). It would have been nice if they did a DMPL version (like some of the original Morgans), a special privy mark, edge lettering, doubling, an overdate, or something that would truly make it a unique coin. What you need to do is when you get your box from the United States mint fill out the PCGS form don't take your coin out-of-the-box send the entire tape the box to PCGS not only that but you need to write on the form that you want to see OD if it has a signature on it encapsulated that's the only way it'll be a true PCGS graded coin with the encapsulation grated also

Unfortunately the mint fumbled the bag by not making these coins distinguishable from the other 274,800 Peace dollars minted. Maybe a missing reed or some other way would have been brilliant. But to their credit they are trying...maybe they'll come out with another Cheerios dollar pattern in some Lucky Charms next time.

The *ONLY WAY* to buy one of the *WONKA COINS* on the secondary market (eBay & coin shops) is to purchase the COA & the coin together. It wouldn't be a bad idea to ask for the shipping label which contains 4 different verifying codes, 5 if you count the name and address of the intended purchaser. A simple cut of the cardboard and you have the shipping label. However, something this valuable, I would demand the entire shipping box, before investing $700+. The reason why those shipping labels are so very important, is that could be another way of verifying the Peace Dollar's authenticity, which the U.S. Mint could possibly validate, if they followed each coin right up to the point of shipping.

Great video, new subscriber today.😀 So far it seems like there has only been one of these that has surfaced? Maybe 2...not sure. I purchased 5 Morgans and 4 Peace dollars in 3 different orders. I opened the 5 Morgans (overall happy with them) and I had a subscription for 3 Peace dollars, they are also opened and incredible! However I ordered one more single Peace on the 13th, and I have not opened that box yet. Thinking of sending that one in for grading, since I have not heard of anymore found. I prefer raw coins but I have been a member of PCGS for 3 years now. Any thoughts by anyone on this?😊 I membered up when they started the coin hunt for the West Point quarters, but have yet to ever send anything in lol. Oh well, I like the books haha

A box being tampered with, and a box that has actually been opened, are two separate issues. A box that has been opened is easy to spot right away. Not only is the packing tape one measure to insure that the package & contents arrive safely, but the box itself has a permanent type glue, that prohibits anyone from opening it, without totally destroying the box itself. If this were the case, it would be very obvious from first ,*Naked Eye Inspection*. A second security feature is the way the box is folded in the *final stage of preparing to ship*. Its design is one that is fairly easy to assemble, but once folded, sealed, and shut, it is all but impossible to reopen without ripping a good portion of the cardboard that it is constructed of. Now a box that has been tapered with is much more difficult to declare that it has been tampered with. The USPS is a system of conveyors, and sorting machines, which means that all packages are not physically handled very much at all. Damage to certain parcels, and packages occurs from passing through these machines, and the end result means there is no way anyone can tell if any damage to any parcel was deliberate, due to pilfering by a postal employer, or was a result of damage from their machinery. It is hard to believe that anyone would risk losing a $60,000 a year job, and going to prison, over a net gain of less than a $100 item. Im not saying theft by a postal employee doesn't occasionally happen from time to time, but a person would have to be really stupid to take such risks. Also, there are security cameras mounted throughout the postal premises, and any package would have to be literally removed from the premises, and any tomfoolery would have to take place away from the cameras, then returned to the system, without someone detecting it. In most cases, damage to any given package was caused by the machinery that they employ, as opposed to felony intentions.

And I couldn't agree more that the Peace Dollar in this modern representation is a better looking coin than the Morgan. Don't get me wrong. I like the old original Morgans. The finish of the 2021 and 2023 (unc. version) is just 'wrong' for the Morgan in my opinion. Got my 2023 Peace (x2) today and am delighted with them. The even, creamy, lustre is similar to that seen in images of original 'Satin Proof' 1921 Peace Dollars. It's nice to have fully struck flawless Peace Dollars at an affordable price. I would, however, have preferred the Mint to have used 90% silver for these.

This is a non-event "paper"...I won't even call it a "rarity (that cheapens the designation)...it's a packaging gimmick based on the packaging/card saying it's from the Director of the Mint. No difference than a certified coin with an official's signature or likeness on the slab label. IF there was a slight difference in the coin strike, finish, mark or something, THEN we can talk. Packaging gimmicks are for the PT Barnum crowd quickly seperated from their hard eared money.

Director strike is printed on the COA, not on the box. The sign COA are black. The signature and the number is on the back of the COA. The congratulations card is slid into the sleeve on the outside of the box. There has been several posted some sold on eBay NGC will not be denoting the coins PCGS will require a mint sealed shipping box with your hopes of having one of these coins in the Box no way of knowing until they are opened by PCGS.

The signed COAs are black, not off-white like the regular ones. If you notice in that pic, that's too small in relation to the tray to be the box lid. In addition Ive seen several of these on different forums, etc and it's always the congrats card, black signed COA and regular box. COA is signed/numbered on the back

Did she really push the button every two hundredth coin? who cares... same coin, and if you want it certified, it has to be sent in to the grading company in the unopened shipment from the mint, so you can't even open it and inspect it to see if the coin is worth grading and it will cost you an extra 20 bucks to have the certificate slabbed. what a crock. lol

A privy mark on the coin is the only way to ensure you have a coin. I’m sure the documentation won’t ever be counterfeited. It seems a little arrogant to me that this lady feels she should do something special for the first time in 230 years. Focus on the quality of the coins. Milk spots and other issues are still being reported. Ok, I didn’t get one so I’m bitter. Lol.

I don't like any of the 2023 coins. I stop collecting last year for the mint not producing something really outstanding. I think they need new people at the mint to come up with some fresh ideals.

Daniel when I did a video on mine for youtube I noticed the reverse of my 2023 Morgans having some frosty depth on the Eagle and wreath....I dont remember seeing that on the flat looking 2021 Morgans.... If you have a 2021 in the shop do the side by side comparison and let me know what you think?

Did she actually strike them herself?If so that's the only difference.Just another convoluted way for the mint to make money.I know there's no price difference this year but it's making people by more of their products this year and all the following years until the buyers get fed up with their antics.

The mint could have simply used different collars for the limited edition to impart a lettered edge, stars, or some distinct design, then switched out to regular reeded collars for remainder of the production run.
