Hi guys. Just FYI, you committed a faux pas in the video. It is considered impolite to eat and walk at the same time in Japan. If you are going to eat, stand to side and out of the way.

I think is a huge NO NO eating and walking at the same time. Its considered unsavory. Finding a place to sit down and eat is better.

About ‘eating while walking’ in Japan though, that social etiquette is not quite well-known. Which is why some touristy food spots need to post signs about it to inform foreigners. So it’s okay actually no harm done.

Try the onigiri. Or even the premium onigiri. The cheap but full egg sandwich. The spam slice onigiri. The salad sticks with japanese miso mayo dip. My top favorites. All found in convenience stores

To be honest, UK grocery stores, convenience stores and markets are pretty elite as well compared to the rest of the world. I'm Asian American from NYC, used to work in London and I would go to the M&S Foods hot foods section for lunch all the time for chicken tikka kebabs, sausage rolls etc. You can't get that stuff in the US at all at any grocery store. So while Japanese convenience stores are nice, I actually prefer the pre packaged or hot food at UK groceries.

I thought it was frowned upon to be eating/drinking while walking in Japan. Unless you're in an area that features a number of food stalls like Ueno.
@Chloe.reynolds96
@Chloe.reynolds96 8 ай бұрын
Does it really matter? Especially if you're a tourist. I don't see anyone adhering to customs in the customs in the UK. I see tourists constantly stopping in the way of people trying to get to work, taking up whole pavements with groups of people. It's something you deal with everywhere. Not like they're breaking laws, that would be different. Some people can't sit down to eat and need to walk when eating. It's called minding your own business
@jayliu15
@jayliu15 8 ай бұрын
@@Chloe.reynolds96 Yes it matters. Tourists should respect local traditions. Go ahead and go about your own ways on foreign land. Be the fool that you are (you, as in if you are a tourist that you described above).
@Chloe.reynolds96
@Chloe.reynolds96 8 ай бұрын
@@jayliu15 I don't see the same respect where I'm from. Like I said, some people cannot sit and eat and must be walking around/moving. I work with plenty disabled people and people with eating disorders that cannot sit in one place to eat and must move. It's discrimination to say that they cannot do what they need to in order to live. Traditions and attitudes update and change with the knowledge we gain. Seems like Japan needs to be less discriminatory and not judge other people for what they are doing. As I said, mind your own business. I'll certainly be walking and eating as I have to. I shouldn't have to explain myself to anyone. There are tons of Japanese tourists and transfer students over here that certainly do not respect our culture but I don't judge them for doing what they know, I mind my business and get on with it.
@jayliu15
@jayliu15 8 ай бұрын
@@Chloe.reynolds96 People with disabilities obviously get a pass. You brought that topic up, I didn't. Go about your business ignoring local traditions even though you feel entitled to believe "well, 'they' don't follow 'ours'". Such limited reasoning.
@Chloe.reynolds96
@Chloe.reynolds96 8 ай бұрын
@@jayliu15 I am disabled yet you assume I'm disrespectful and just ignoring traditions. I would have to walk around and eat otherwise I wouldn't eat at all. That 'tradition' is discriminatory and the world shouldn't work like that. People wouldn't know I was disabled unless I told them, therefore I would be judged for something that cannot be helped. I shouldn't have to tell anyone I'm disabled in order to not get judged by people. Traditions should change based on the knowledge and respect we gain for one another. If no one is being hurt then you shouldn't be concerned with what someone else is doing. Focus on yourself and don't judge others

Also the reason why hardly any trash bins everywhere (save for outside 7/11 and food stores). If you'd observe people usually eat there then go about. Eating and drinking while walking is disrespectful and frowned upon. Thanks for the video though. Merry Christmas 🤶 🎄

Loved the video. Great challenge but please don't walk around eating in Japan. It's incredibly rude in Japanese culture to walk and eat or walk and drink. As you were crossing the crosswalk, eating the rolled pastry you could see the Japanese people looking back at you with disapproving stares. Love the amazing range of 7/11 foods and really loved your video!
