An enlightening talk about how it is not wrong to be sick - it is simply the nature of the body. Ajahn Brahm discusses the merit of being sick and illustrates a touching story of a dying nun. Not to be missed, and sure to rid you of those guilty feelings forever, when the flu bug next bites!

It’s 3-23-23 …. And I’m still here ! Six months ago I said I was undergoing CAR-T treatment. Well, I complete it this week and the doctors are confident of my complete remission. I feel good! Not completely my old self but well enough to say thank you for everyone who has helped me on this journey …. the doctors, nurses, the medical staff, hospitals, family, friends and well wishers.

I got it all wrong about Buddhists and self-sufficiency. I used to pride myself on how self-sufficient I was. No wonder I became lonely. I need to change my view of “being needed and needing others.” Even now, when I think and say “I don’t need you, ... I don’t need anyone to care for me,” I feel haute and arrogant ... a bigger than life kind of a person. But I think I’ve been deceiving myself. The truth is I’m full of fear. And showing arrogance outwardly to the world is my way of hiding those fears.

I've seen near all of the videos on this channel and I'd have to say this is easily one of the best and most insightful talks ever uploaded. I've heard some of the stories multiple times before, but there is a lot of new insight there as well to add to the old insight.

Wise. I had somewhat thought of sickness like this before. Appreciation of my blessings and curses since they both have advantages. I'm pleased to have this better and more thorough explanation for how I have felt about it. Peace and love to all.

I have the flu. I’ve been showing loving-kindness to it and care ... and not talking down to it. But I have to admit that sometimes, I feel so miserable that I wish the flu would just end my life and be done with it.

Back again ! I’m still alive. Can’t believe it. But it isn’t all roses. I’m crying at this moment. Not out of self pity but from the constant 24/7 pain… unrelenting extreme pain . Six months of chemotherapy did not eradicate the cancer. Recent PETScan shows the cancer has migrated from my abdomen to near my left lung and right hip. My Oncologist now recommends CAR-T treatment. Everyone is pulling for me . The only one isn’t is me. I don’t know if I can survive this new treatment. And they say it’s more intensive. This body should have died 10 months ago. I went from 170 lbs to 115 lbs in 4 weeks. I’m 65 but looked like a walking decomposing skin on a skeleton.

I haven't had a cough, a cold or a flu in nearly four years since I got rid of Detergents, Fabric Softeners, Air Fresheners and commerical chemicals from my home. My sense of smell has increased by at least 100%. The less pollution we inhale, the less chemicals, the less our body has to detox. Detox meaning raising it's temperature, expelling mucus, aches and pains. It's common sense really. I also don't burn candles or incense as that also pollutes the air going into our lungs. Our lungs are only meant to inhale Air and natural scents from fruit, flowers etc

How about those with severe long term illness that doesn't pass? How does one deal with that? I have been bedbound for the last 4 years with illness and need full time care. Knowing that it won't 'pass' does put a darker complexion on matters?

sam miller I am only a lay Buddhist practitioner, but your comment made me want to look up information that could help you in in your particular situation. There is an excellent transcribed talk you may want to read at www.Buddhanet.net/meddeath.htm, and a website called www.dharma-haven.org which covers Medicine Buddha practices. There may also be on-line meditation groups that you could join for doing practice. I don’t know where you live, but look up Buddhist temples and groups in your area. They may be willing to include you in a live stream of their meditation services where you can ask for advice from their teachers. Finding a good teacher will help you a lot! Metta and best of luck to you!

Now how did God come to have a connection with meditation and Buddhism?? Just because meditation is effective that doesn't mean you should draw it towards impractical Christianity and make a false tale about God.
