So inspiring. I learned that after the loss of my son. I remember saying to him, "I'm not sad that you have gone home, I'm sad that I'm here without you." I cherish the 26 years that he was here and the memories I have of raising him for those 26 years.

My father died five weeks ago from a painful cancer. In his last hours he was unresponsive. I held his hand and talked with him. I told him that we (his family) will all help each other, and that he can die without worry. In his last 1/2 hour, as the five skandhas faded away, he gradually became free of physical pain. It was then that my father tightened his grip on my hand, looked at me and sighed. Ten minutes later he died so peacefully. All you said is true, Ajahn Brahm. Thank you.

Thank you for this talk tonight the week of Valentine’s Day from 14th through 18th I lost my father and my aunt completely unrelated my aunt was my mother figure and I couldn’t be with either one of them when it happened. This talk gave me such peace of mind as I talk to them all the time. I try to listen to you every night I want to learn Buddhism and where I live well let’s say they’re not waiting do it. You have helped me more with your words in a few months then a lot of therapists have in years. So I know what you do is tiring and probably sometimes boring and I hope they give you a cushion to sit on your Words are helping people survive a life much easier than it was before they started to listen to you thank you

But yry to go deeper than those teachings. Becoz life is not so peacefull as you think it can be after death. Becoz the judgement day will come for all of us individuals no matter of what race or colour. God is there to receive us or reject us. Deeds alone can't save us but salvation from the power of sins thru Jesus can save us from condemnation of sins. Goodness can never replace or blot out sins except the blood of the lamb of God whose name is Jesus.

Ive worked in nursing homes for many years, and a lot of times when someone is dying we usually can tell when they will die because they seem happy and feeling so much better just for a little while. Then thay pass away. Being with someone in their last moments is very special and im glad ive been with many.

Hi Katie. My husband died from Nonhodgekins lymphoma. He was 76. He had his 6th chemo on the 27th of April. From the 28th April until 3rd of May, he was so happy, active, strong, he walked around our place, went to the beach as we are like literally 10 mins away by walking, he was able to go upto our 3rd floor which he never did since he started to feel sick, he went to locksmith to get more key copies, he even ironed his clothes, cooked his own breakfast. In the morning of 4th of May, he felt lazy, and had a sore throat in the afternoon, he stayed in bed all day. Evening that same day, he was half conscious. I tried to wake him up, it took me 4 mins before he opened his syes. He told me, WHY, I WANT TO SLEEP ALREADY and he closed his eyes again. My husband is Thai and he stayed in the temple for quite sometime when he was younger. The doctor told me he had pneumonia. He passed peacefully. I am so sad not to be able to be with him in the ICU when he was finally leaving :( I didnt know that most people will be feeling much better and happier before then pass. I thought he was healing and getting back in shape :(

I experienced near death. I felt warm and fuzzy and I could hear people's laughter and soft giggles like a happy blurry dream place. There's one thing missing that is you are not breathing anymore, there's no heartbeat or pulse . You are just there floating smoothly like a soft flowing balloon. When I got back to my consciousness, there's a sudden surge of pain that stung my head, my brain. That's when I knew I was back to my consciousness, taking a deep breath and that all pain were what my body felt.

Sky hound Buddhists believe in many different levels of worlds that can be experienced by beings who live at their levels. There are worlds where there is only suffering like naraka( hells), or only happiness like devaloka( heavens) But the problem with heavens is that life in heaven is temporary. We can live there from thousands to millions of years but will still die. Therefore, goal of a buddhist is to escape this cycle of birth and date. There is also a god who thinks that he is the creator. thedailyenlightenment.com/2012/03/the-buddhas-victory-over-a-god-demon/

My dad just died on fathers day this year. My dad was always a negative person. He always thought about the past. He took the past hurt and turned it into anger towards my family and me. Till the day he died. He was always angry and resentful. He was in a vegetative state and couldn't speak hardly. One of the last words my mom heard him say is. "Leave me alone and let me die." When she tried cleaning his face in his hospital bed. Even though he barely could move, he somehow still managed to remove the IVs and feeding tubes. He wanted to die. He finally got his wish. I forgive him for how he treated my family and me. Because he was not taught to let go of the past. I know he has been through some trauma, and he had much unchecked mental health. My question is to piggyback off your story about dying in a positive mindset. I question if my dad was feeling optimistic when he died. I was not there, or no one was when he died. No one saw him pass away. Just from what my uncle told me, who was his doctor. He just gave him plenty of morphine for comfort, and he passed away in his sleep. But for someone so negative due to what I believe is untreated mental health. When you do die, and you let go of the sick body. Do you also let go of the ill mind so you can think positive and hope to fall into a more significant and better realm? From my dad's point of view in his lifetime. Although he had a loving family. He felt this life just tortured him. I forgive him for everything he did. I just hope he is now able to live the life he wants now. Or did he get stuck in this hell realm?

I too read the article once what Ajahn Brahm was talking about. It was published in The Irish Times in 2006, and is about a university student (Sheffield), a Maths genius with an IQ of 126, who didn't have a brain (hydrocephalus). Even during the second world war some military doctors too have made similar observations in some wounded and dead soldiers. These findings show what Buddha said about the 'Mind', "Dooran gaman eka charanAsareeran guhasayan". Mind is independent of the body. 🙏🙏🙏

So , do need to highlight that having a positive attitude towards death , it’s natural that everyone gets old and die , do not take the teaching in a wrong way though.

Theravada Buddhism traditionally teaches there are five realms in which you can have existence, but Ajahn Brahm seems to agree here with many NDE accounts that you can exist for a more or less long time in-between realms/lives as a disembodied mind. I would like to understand more about how long he thinks this state of affairs can last [and " where" is the mind when it is "creating" experiences of meeting spirits/Jesus/dead relatives etc. if not in one of the five realms?

I am one such person. I clearly had a memory of life between life. This happened when I has having a Reiki session. I recalled the time before I was born into this lifetime. That memory also included the memory of my birth - this time around.

rahul sawant I'm happy to share my experience. The vision I had happened during a Reiki session, immediately following my initiation as a level 1 practitioner. Several other Reiki practitioners were working on me in a group session. The Reiki master placed her hands on my head, and when this occurred I suddenly found myself in an altered state of consciousness. While I continued to be aware of my physical body, so some extent, my mind was cleared detached from that physical reality. The event may have only lasted seconds, or minutes, but time and space both seemed entirely irrelevant. In my minds eye I was in a place without time or space in the normal sense of what those things mean in our current experience. The place I was in was a featureless landscape in which both land and sky were gray flat planes stretching off into infinity in all directions. As I noted, there were not features to either sky or land, everything was entirely flat and a uniform colour of gray. I could distinguish a horizon because the sky was slightly lighter gray than was the land. What I found most remarkable was the uniform light in this scene. The light seemed to come from all directions without having a single source. As I looked around I could find no sun in the sky yet there was still light everywhere. As I noted I could still sense my physical body and things going on around me to some degree, however as this event went on my perception of being somewhere gradually shifted towards this internal vision of somewhere else. However, I was also aware that my physical body had become dramatically cold, as if I had been dropped into an icy river. The sensation was one in which the cold was in fact emerging from within me and flowing like ice water down through my body and out through my feet. The sensation was quite intense and continued throughout the session. However, the most dominant experience was clearly not physical and entirely within this unusual flat gray landscape I described earlier. As some point I asked my Reiki master to help me understand what I was sensing. She advised that I should simply ask aloud for some explanation of what I was seeing in this vision of another realm. Following her direction I asked such a question. The answer seemed to come in as a grayish shape appeared in the distance. The shape appeared to be a soft dome shape, not unlike a soft sphere which was flattened on the bottom where it made contact with the plane on which it rested. I described what I was seeing to the Reiki master and asked her to help me understand the meaning of this shape. Once again I was directed to ask for an explanation, which I did. Instantly I seemed to be transported effortlessly to be standing directly next to the shape. I began to examine it and noted that I could detect a faint pinkish-gray colour. As some point while examining the shape, and trying to figure out what it was, I reached out to touch it. I don't recall having hands at this juncture, but rather I reached out figuratively as a thought. However as I "reached out" I was suddenly absorbed into the shape. At this point I found myself inside a hollow spherical shape. In spite of having of having no visible source there was a steady light inside the sphere. However, in spite of the light being very uniform I could still detect the curving shape one would expect to see if standing inside a domed shape. As I looked around I noticed an opening to my left. It appeared to be some manner of tunnel, and it seemed darker than the rest of the structure. I went to the opening to examine it more closely. I noted that the tunnel appeared to descend downwards in a curving shape. I also noticed that the walls of the tunnel seemed to be lined with regularly spaced ridges. The tunnel grew darker as it went down. I leaned forward to look down the tunnel and suddenly found myself drawn into it. As with all other aspects of this vision I seemed entirely powerless to control anything which happened. Initially this decent was smooth and rapid. However as I went further down the tunnel the walls seemed to press in tightly and all sense of light disappeared. I felt myself being squeezed more and more tightly, and this caused a feeling of panic. I seemed to be stuck in the tunnel, in the dark being compressed with increasing force. This force seemed to press in most strongly on my head, making my physical head feel like it was in fact in a vice. The pressure seemed to be relentless and I had a clear sensation of immense pain. The feeling of panic and fear was very much present, and seemed entirely real. Somewhere in the midst of all this I felt a strong sensation of having my left arm pulled strongly up over my head. The sensation was so powerful my physical body responded causing my arm to be involuntarily pulled up in that fashion. This was quickly followed by a tremendous feeling of my head being crushed violently on the left side. I could feel my head being compressed and distorted at the same instant. Both the feelings in my head and face, and my shoulder and arm continued for some seconds or minutes before suddenly easing. At this moment I seemed to have lost contact with my rational mind to some extent. I was entirely absorbed by the experience I was having and was not simply observing it, but rather reliving it. I had been reduced to a virtually non-verbal state, and really couldn't express what I was feeling. I had become as helpless as a a newborn infant, and indeed, it is my opinion, that at that moment I had re experienced my own birth. This was reinforced by my failed attempts to speak. When I opened my mouth the sound which emerged was that of a newborn crying. The sound surprised me as much as anyone. Adult humans can't make such a sound, it is unique to newborns. This event was so incredible, so extraordinary I wanted to investigate further. I called my mother to ask about the events of my birth. She confirmed that my entry into the world was quite difficult. Apparently I had become lodged in the birth canal and there was risk to both my life and the life of my mother. The doctor gave my mother anesthetic and tried to pull me out by my arm, this dislocated my shoulder, but failed to dislodge me. He then performed what is commonly referred to a high forceps delivery. This involves the use of a device which can grasp the baby by the head and pull them forcibly down the birth canal. My mother had never before described any details of my birth with me. Yet still, without having any of the information previously, I described the events of my birth to my mother. She was able to confirm most of what I described as being accurate. This then convinced me that I'd had a glimpse of some aspect of the life between life events which preceded my birth, as well as the birth itself.

"The Purusha, the inner Self, always dwells within the heart of men. Let a man separate Him from his body with steadfastness,as one separates the tender stalk from the blade of grass. Let him know that Self as the Bright, the Immortal, yea, as the Bright, as the Immortal." -Katha Upanishad
