man look at the quality of the interior... I own a german car but this seems more luxury, the germans tried so hard to save pennies in plastic materials that the chinese brands are now more luxurious by a mile.

I checked out the Sea Lion 7 in Malaysia, it’s a really nice vehicle. The screens are improved over the Seal, the images from the camera looks really good. I was surprised at the pricing compared to the XPeng G6, more because of the range and lack of advanced driving features. The Sea Lion 7 does come at a lower price than Tesla Model Y here, but higher than XPeng G6. The materials feel good and the window treatment blocks outside noise very well. It would be nice to have other interior color than black but, they have done a pretty good job with it.

Model Y is not an SUV. Ground clearance is 6.6 inches. Legit SUVs have at least 8 inches. The Subaru Outback station wagon is 8.7 inches. Model Y is a bubbly hatchback. Model Y is designed for dorks. The BYD is a lot better looking and has a nicer interior.

You need to get over the animal leather issue. 1.4 Billion Chinese consume lots of meat they have the hides they may as well use them. PS I have not eaten a land-animal since 1993 but the key to life is balanced pragmatism.

western countries actually eat a lot more meat compared to Asia relatively by a fair margin. The Asian countries also don't waste any products at all, most farmd animals and fishes are eating top to bottom where west waste so much. Hypocritical to talk about sustainability and animal rights😅

The green narrative is always the excuse to keep the cost low but still sell high, consumers suffers. Fake leather is not as premium and cool as real ones. Even soccer shoes nowdays, going from fake leather and then freaking plastics.😅😅😅

im chinese, in china there are more than 20 ev brands, and BYD are considered as the 'cheaper and low quality' one. unfortunately the cooler and prettier others could not been sold in EU

I am Chinese as well. I understand u see lot of taxis and transports branded Byd just because they are fuel efficient. Hence the cheapness your referring to😅 but they have top models as well u8 bao8 um etc and probably more if they wants to release expensive ones. It's not like people are not buying the expensive ones. Also UK Australia and other European countries are signing up with byd megadeals for public transportation as we speak

I don't understand BYD's strategy in Europe. The main problem facing EVs is price and so if you're a new, unfamiliar brand wanting to sell a lot then obviously you should make the price much lower than existing brands. We know they can afford to do it, MG/SAIC have shown it works so why are they making it more expensive than a Tesla?

they are NOT making it more expensive Einstein. Its the EU tariff that makes this care more expensive. It is in fact cheaper and they can´t go any lower. They also offer more than a Tesla for that price. Blame the EU. BYD is doing great globally and will only keep doing so when the brand is growing bigger in other countries.

Tesla Y is a lot better. People seem to think interior quality is the main thing with electric cars, but its rather effiency, having an effective heat pump system, driving dynamics ++Y is far ahead of BYD here. Build and interior quality is more simplistic in Y, but dont mistake that for a poor quality, cause Y is not, its just different materials, almost all soft ones. BYD has no One Pedal driving, theres something " off" with its driving dynamics, it has a bigger battery but is nowhere near as efficient as Y, hardly gets any updates, looks boring in my eyes, less space, poor heat pump system compared to Teslas which is reckoned to be one of the very best in the business. Plus you have Sentry mode which is awesome to have in Y, Camp mode , much better infortainment system, much better stereo+++ Go ahead and buy BYD those who like, but its not in Y class and when Y Juniper arrives, that will be Game Over man, for most of the competition

Apologies but as an owner of a Model 3 and having driven both Model Y and the new Model 3 their quality of materials is crap. Went over to check the Sealion at the dealer and was really impressed by their quality. Even the dolphin feels better built than Tesla's. No disagreement on the technological advantage of Tesla. Tesla's bigger problem though at least in Europe is the fact that loads of people now see them as Trump mobiles. This will not help in sales...

@Ryalonor47 No apologies needed. New Model 3 is very good quality, even behind panels there are soft sound dampening materials. Mostly is soft in Y too, but Will be alot better in new Y. Tesla is technological, software and hardwarewise much better,, driving also alot better..But, everyone has their own taste, that's how it is😁

Also, how much is the price difference if you spec up the BYD to what comes standard in the Tesla Model Y? I don't think the BYD is the smart choice for the same money, since it offers a lot less in the most important categories, range and space, but for more money it's not even close.

I have owned several Tesla models, like S and X. Tested the Sealion today. It felt so much better quality wise. Sealion felt like a premium brand, Tesla more like a cheap car with a lot of plastic parts. I now own an Audi E-tron, and the Sealion actually didn’t feel like a downgrade in quality. I ordered one at the spot. Half of the price compared to the E-tron.

1. IMHO the MY centre screen for everything is about Tesla cutting production costs not for driver safety or experience. S7 has a HUD. 2. Australia is hot half the year at least. I hired a MY last January on holiday in the coldest state and a glass roof is an absolutely stupid idea from a cabin heat point of view. S7 has a powered shade. 3. My wife seriously didn’t enjoy the spartan interior of the MY. S7 looks nice inside. 4. Both cars are much cheaper in Australia with zero tariffs. It’s anticipated the S7 price will be a bit less than the MY. 5. Musk has revealed his far right character. As Australian, Jim Jeffries, once said in part jest “South Africans are horrible people”. 6. China effectively underwrites Australia’s standard of living with cheap imports and by being by far Australia’s largest export market for the three industries where Australia has competitive advantage.
