The alocasias bambino looks very similar to the amazonica and polly. This species is the tiniest one out of them and has some very striking foliage, which I am not shy about showing detail views in this video. I share the care tips and propagate them in many ways, showing updates at the end of the video. This is a surprisingly easy alocasia and its beauty is often times overlooked. I highly recommend this species for every growers home conditions.

OMG you're a saviour! I was just wondering what to do to my Alocasia portodora because it has grown so much over the years that it's growth point is 20cm over the soil. It's really difficult to find information on what to do when the ...tuber? gets too big for your pots. The answer is right here get to cutting! A wholehearted thank you from Finland

Wow! This is one of the most successful propagation videos you have done I think 😁. I don't own many alocasias (just 2) because they always die on me, or the leaves turn yellow when a new one appears, and I don't enjoy that behavior haha. But after watching this video you have inspired me to give them a second chance :D

I found an Alocasia Polly for a $1.98. It it’s in good condition, but it was pretty water logged in the soil. So I got rid of the wet soil, in the nursery pot, and put new dry soil. I have it on top of my aquarium close to a window next to my Fiddle Leaf fig. I love the look of these plants. It brings a nice esthetic to the home.

I enjoyed the detailed video on the breeding, care, and sprout growth process of Alocacia Bambino. I also raise a Bambino in a balcony garden and a guppy room at home, but It died grow in the balcony garden a while ago. I think it was because winter in Korea was cold. I think it'll be hard to cover it with Vinyl in the winter. I'll have to wait until the sprouts sprout next spring.

Ive learned a lot from these. I have 2 bambinos and took some corms without pulling out the plant from the pot. What Ive noticed is that they can endure morning direct sunlight but the leaves become slightly whiter (or like foggier looking surface). I kept one under bright indirect sunlight and the leaves retain their glossy green surface
@onlyplants

Interesting… perhaps they are slightly bleached or producing less chlorophyll as a result of intense light. But yes they thrive in bit of direct light and will grow twice as fast

Careful with the seeds… but seedlings that has already shown variegation is alright. They can take some direct light but best to have dappled or filtered effect. Full sun would crisp up its variegated portions

But this is my first year as a plant parent, so I'll wait until next growing season when I'm more experienced. Hi ! I have a question for those who grow Allocasia Bambino Arrow. I bought one two or three weeks ago, and regarding the biggest leaves, the pointed tips are starting to be slightly yellow/ brown, but overall they're fine ; regarding the smallest and the newest leaves, some of them are fully yellow now, and dying. As it's autumn, I only water it every 12 days, but I don't leave the plant's soil dry ; regarding the light, it's a very bright room, and the Allocasia is near a big window thus there's few direct sunlight in the day. Would you think it's a lack of humidity ? Or too much/not enough watering ? Please help me out on this one, love it to much to let it die :) ps : thank you so much for you video I'll follow your advices !!

I just bought one yesterday. I can't wait for it to grow. One question, can you plant white hypoestes in the same pot as the alocasia? or will affect the plant.

They have slightly different requirements but surely you can. The hypoestes may be a thirsty plant that draws lots of moisture

I love my alocasia (frydek).. but not so much the ongoing battle with spider mites. It definitely takes some time for the corms to sprout. It gave me so many babies that i’m running out of indoor space! 🙈

Haha yes they are spidermites magnets but can be very fast growing when conditions are right

how do you “train” the plants to tolerate so much moisture in the potting mix? my plants always get root rot even when i’m watering less frequently than you say. My bambino is getting water once every 5-7 days!

Its a combination of light level and airflow too. Also if you propagated a plant they will get used to your care 😀

How do you wash the entire plant roots and all before planting in a crested gecko vivarium?

I would soak it in water well mixed with a few drops of soapy water. Bit of neem Oil in the mix would be really good to ensure no spidermites are on the plant. After a few minutes, shake the existing media loose from the roots. Give the plant one last rinse with water before planting it in the vivarium. If you dont treat the alocasia for pests beforehand, it might be difficult to do so once its in the vivarium. Neem oil is natural and is harmless to animals. I highly recommend it. Keep the plant away from bright light for 1 day after treating with neem though.
