Scindapsus plant can be grown in water culture. I had a Silver Satin for 2 years now in a pot filled with water only, and it's climbing onto a moss pole and is doing very well. Not sure why some people say they don't like to be over-watered.
@onlyplants Жыл бұрын
Water roots are different from soil roots. When you transfer water roots into soil roots they can slowly morph to adapt to soil, which need to dry out between watering as these roots are adapted to take in oxygen from the soil, which they need. My video titled “aerial roots” may explain it a bit 😀
@EMuro-wu7uy Жыл бұрын
My first scindapsus I bought was waterlogged and I poured all the water out, I propagated the leaves all propagations failed and leaves died off. I put it in a corner let it go, there was one leaf left. One little lonely guy survived, I reported in a small pot, I now have 3 leaves and I wait for leaves to curl before I water again. The nursery I bought it from apologized but damage was already done. I lost 98 percent of the plant, I bought a new bushy one and water it sparingly. Some people experience these plants differently, so over watering happens.

Some scindapsus varigations are so subtle to that I dont personally understand paying so much for something slightly different than a more common one, but from what I've been told, a Silvery Ann is more concentrated on the tips and the more light you give them, the more silver it'll produce. You probably do have a true Silvery Ann, it just wasn't given as much light from who you bought it from

I always struggle with this plant. Watering is hard to get down for me. I can’t tell if I’m overwatering or underwatering bc the leaves constantly turn yellow but they curl as if thirsty. the soil I use is more chunky so they dry faster. Sounds like I need to fix my soil up
@tracymatherson81742 жыл бұрын
I have the same problem! Curling leaves & then yellowing. I even wondered if it was spider mites or something and would cut off the curling leaves! 😣 I changed the soil to cactus soil, put in a clay terracotta pot, lots of light, and just wait til the leaves start curling to tell me it’s thirsty, so at least the yellowing has stopped. But yeah, this plant is quite the picky drama queen! Lol!
@onlyplants2 жыл бұрын
Rapidly yellowing is sign of overwatering or root rot. Underwatering could sometimes be due to the fact that the roots have rotten or dried off, causing it to not take up water to the leaves. Its best to check the roots when in doubt

Hey Sean🌴... I am Loving your channel! Scindapsus plants are my biggest challenge as I have killed a few of them by over-watering them. I bought two more plants this summer, so I am trying again!🙂 About fungus gnats, I have found that "Ceylon Cinnamon" has gotten rid of mine months ago, and they have not returned. I just sprinkled some on top the soil. Bottom watering also helps to keep fungus gnats at bay. Have you tried Ceylon Cinnamon?
@onlyplants2 жыл бұрын
Ive not heard of ceylon cinnamon… how are they different from regular cinnamon? They do have strong anti fungal properties though so in theory it should work.
@writegirl29372 жыл бұрын
@@onlyplants Ceylon Cinnamon is the organic (pure version) of regular cinnamon that we normally use in our kitchen. It has a bitter taste, so I don't recommend eating it. LOL. As you know, even regular cinnamon is good for fungus gnats. Cinnamon is also a good rooting hormone, and it helps to heal roots that have been tussled or pruned during re-potting. So, organic cinnamon is even more effective! Let us know if you try it and if it's helps you with fungus gnats. Of course, we still need to make sure we do not over-water our plants. Keep well.🌴
@cindyvan635 Жыл бұрын
@@writegirl2937 Actually Ceylon cinnamon is from Sri Lanka, and is the real cinnamon. The type usually sold in grocery stores is Cinnamomum Cassia, which is also called Chinese cinnamon. The Real Ceylon cinnamon is sweeter, mellow taste, and no chemicals or preservatives. Always buy Organic spices ...

I've found an east or west facing window and WARM temps are the two bits that made my pothos cuttings grow roots faster. I didn't change the water as root hormone likely builds up and helps other cuttings Sprout.
