One of the things I realized about her mask is that it is referencing a science demonstration for sound waves. It's an experiment where a black board is placed over a speaker. Salt is spread on the board and when different sound frequencies are played through the speaker, the salt changes into different patterns corresponding to the sound waves. It's a very cool way to visualize sound waves and adds an amazing little detail to the character design.

Well yeah, that's what Kevin Smith and Phil Hester had in mind when they created Onomatopoeia 22 years ago. And I'm still waiting for GRRM's Winds of Winter. *Batman: Bellicosity* would blow my mind if they actually started to show panels and concept arts, and give a real (this time) estimation of when it could come out. Hopefully Ono showing up in "Batman: Caped Crusader" and "Superman & Lois" season 3, this will give Kevin Smith the inspiration needed to finish the noize saga in his corner of the DC universe. The DC short "Onomatopoeiabots" from 2014 was made by the Smith/Hester duo a decade ago, and this year in the issue #8 of Green Arrow (the run that started in 2023) looked liked he had a blast drawing Ono. I'll keep a light on for *Bellicosity* ...

Onomatopoeia in the comics' gimmick of saying the sound effects of his weapons was cool, but it's straightup impossible to pull off in live-action (or any medium aside from comics with speech bubbles) because a dude saying "woosh", "shing", and "blam" is substantially lamer when said out of a human's voice in live-action than it does in comic books. @ravenlich1299 What he means is, look at the first scene compared to the rest. The guy dies to bullets that don't exist. But after that and the followup confusion of Superman, she doesn't use the power in any interesting ways, just a constant reverb that, for all intents and purposes, is just a sonic scream. As an example, those sounds in the second part of the first clip. Imagine if they did a similar thing, causing people to be killed in explosions without an explosion happening. Basically making it reality manipulation by way of sound rather than just sonic reverberation.

That low drone that happens whenever she is around is as intimidating as the Prowlers cue

When she took off the mask she went from being cool and creepy to just looking stupid when she mimes screaming at someone.

Glad to finally see some good villain design in a CW show.

Def should add him into the next Batman Arkham game. Also fun fact in the comics they were going to be in the Suicide Squad but were deemed to insane

Wish they would've kept up with the "sound effects he makes happens idea" kinda like the speech guy from JJk or Nico Minaru from Marvel. They did the awesome gunshots thing at the beginning then just devolved her to be a lame Black Canary.

So a female Black Bolt, nice.

I wish she did more like the first scene where you hear bullets but there's no bullets. like if you could hear fire and things burn. she's just a cooler banshee lol

all he does in the comics is just say whatever sound effect is being made before doing it like saying "bang" as he shoots a weapon

Had him pop-locking in the beginning😂

This is a really scary villain, like an SCP or something out of a creepypasta.

this is way different and better than the comic version of onomatopoeia being able to actually control sound instead of being some middle aged guy with a family who's just hunting non-metahuman vigilantes, no powers, just making noises.

They made an evil Black Canary? She's like a super Karen "I WANT TO SEE THE MANAGER!"

Holy crap, they did the impossible. They actually made this character work in live-action.

Really disappointing how she very quickly devolves into just screaming at people, the gunshots at the beginning were a super cool interpretation; and that as soon as the mask comes off it's forgotten about, just obliterates any menace she had and just makes her looks ridiculous.

This is the closest we may ever get to Shriek from Batman Beyond in live action!

They made a cool character into another superpowered slop, this is literally just black canary.

As neat as this was they shouldve stuck with the character replicating sounds to make effects like the gunshots. Sonic screams was kind of lame.

I personally saw it as that, she's manipulating sound to do things like that. I think as more of her was shown, it just defaulted to screams
@starsilverinfinity6 ай бұрын
@@manuelito1233 It it honestly sounds like she got screwed a touch by her own run time - they started out with cool stuff like bullets and e plosions but as time passed it just became a scream, with specific sfx being saved for a few choice moments (That chainsaw one was nuts)

Hollywood is not creative with their powers. I think only Ant Man had me think that's creative! But that too got lost in Quantumania. It's feels like all just end up in energy blast. Compared to that Anime have better application of powers. The Coffin In Sky in MHA is pretty genius use of powers.

@@Vor567tez I think its due to budget concerns - like its easier to spam the same sound/visual than try and be unique each and every time. Environmental interactions, unique sounds or visuals, all take more money - which can be rough on a show who's gimmick relies on sfx budget Think about how early or low budget shows would just recycle the same "uses ability in a area without a background" or like how Star Trek literally basically had static props that they cut between and stuff

Lol, her mask is just a giant old school sub woofer speaker 😂
