There is a way to stop the paper moving when cutting the sections: print the cutting guide on to freezer paper and iron it to the top fabric

True, but these are very small blocks so the freezer paper is a bit harder to remove. I do use the FP when I am doing large blocks like in the Snowflake Lonestar corners :)

I’ve done something like this using batiks. It is hard to know the right sides . What I ended up doing, was marking the wrong side with chalk or a pencil.
