It seems like the common theme in all these videos is that property owners don't have any defensible space.. I've been through two wildfires in my State, and my house has stood both times because of the 200 feet of space between my house. No brush, trees, or tall grass in that space. I'm looking at the house at 6:08 and there isn't even 10 feet of defensible space. There isn't room for firefighters to safely protect the home.
@SuddenUpdraft4 жыл бұрын
MIKEDOG620 I was also wondering about that. In one view there was dried, dead brush right next to the house. Ever since the Oakland Hills Fire the fire department monitors things and warns homeowners to keep the area surrounding their homes free of flammable growth.

It must be terrifying to look up to the top of the hill by your house and see the first little flicks of flame peeking over.
@elultimo1024 жыл бұрын
Watching that burn line working its way toward your house is no picnic. Then you hear propane tanks exploding in the distance. You pray the power stays on for your well pump, so you can keep spraying. If you're lucky, the burn line passes around your well-sprayed house and keeps going, while you put out hot spots. Then you look out and see the fire going up the next mountain, towards the multi-million dollar houses on top. That night you sleep with a wet towel over your face, so your eyes don't hurt and you can breathe. The next morning the sky is almost the color of orange sherbet, and the sun is so dim, you can look right at it. (I experienced this in the '03 Cedar Fire, and lived about 20 miles from the current one) People I know say they can see the smoke and they are scared. I'm glad I moved last year!!

God only knows how much wildlife California has lost in all these fires.
@kingpetra68864 жыл бұрын
The reason they have lost so much wildlife to fires is the laws they have to protect wildlife to begin with. The shet phenomemaher numbers of these fires are a relatively recent phenomena and it doesn't have anything to do with climate change.

I not sure if things have changed but some years ago when San Diego County had a few really big fires we found out that there was a big underlaying problem. The residents of the County refused to fund creation of a County Fire Department. This means they relied on mutual aid agreements with surrounding municipalities for big fires. Sometimes nobody was available. I suspect that nothing has changed.

Reportedly spread from a tractor that caught fire.
The camera work here is weak at best. This looks more like the aviation channel than reporting on the fire fighting effort. It would be nice to see some impact from all the water and fire retardant being dropped. I am also surprised that the Governor has not had the fire fighters arrested for not wearing mask. Oh wait, they work for the government. Our prayers are with the residents and fire fighters.
