The topography hasn't changed; much of southern California has always been desert and mountains. But, people didn't live there. Most people lived in the cities and suburbs then visited the wilderness on weekends. Over the last couple of decades developers have built on land once occupied by wild animals. Now people cant understand why bears and mountain lions wander neighborhoods looking for food. Firefighters, with limited amounts of water, must decide to save the homes or contain the fire. Who doesnt envy the idea of living next to nature? But mother nature may not want you living there.

In the 70's they completely quit forest management, preferring to let it go back to "natural", but they didn't stop the "unnatural" building boom in these areas. Oof, this makes me think of a recent incident where my elderly neighbor decided to use newspaper as kindling to start a charcoal grill, sending sparks and ash flying upward near a tree. They didn't start a fire thankfully, but I watched completely baffled at how they didn't realize that was an awful idea. I feel like every Californian should be required to take a fire safety course as a prereq to getting their driver's license or something. Nobody seems to understand how risky some of their habits are, especially during the summer.

True. You can't know someone's gender from a scan. Only their sex, which is a different thing. And that's why seems pretty pointless having a "gender reveal" celebration; your child can make up their own mind regarding how they feel & want to present to the world, later.

That's why it's important to leave the "gender" field blank on the birth certificate and tell the pediatricians that if they can't medically treat a child's cold or skinned knee without knowing what's going on in it's underwear, then they need to go back to medical school and try again. Let the child figure out for itself what it is, without trying to influence it, but only educate it on all the possibilities of life, and let it lead you regarding names and pronouns. Only thing I would influence if I had a trans kid is surgery. They imagine that if it "looks" like the opposite physical sex, then it "is," but they don't realize that when you cut into sexual organs to that degree, they stop functioning no matter what they look like. I would tell my child, if it were transgender, "Boys can have vaginas and girls can have penis', and both can have great lives if they choose to have great characters!" It's what's inside that counts, Saiyan, not what's outside. All children need to be taught not to judge books by their covers.
