Driver Ejected In Pickup Crash

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 9-15-24 2:13 AM
LOCATION: Northbound 215, South of 210
AREA/CITY: San Bernardino
DETAILS:
On September 15th, 2024, at 2:13 AM, CHP, County Fire, and AMR responded to another traffic collision on the Northbound 215 Freeway, just South of the 210 Freeway.
Units arrived at the scene and located the driver of the white pickup truck ejected and lying in the lanes.
He was transported with unknown injuries.
The truck was destroyed after striking the rear of an Amazon Trailer, the exact same situation CHP responded to about 2 miles North, where three people were killed when their vehicle struck the rear of a semi-trailer.
All lanes were stopped while CHP and Cal-Trans cleaned the debris from the lanes.

Many years ago, I was w/SDPD and we had a report of a crash on the San Diego Bay Coronado bridge. I think it was a single car accident, but I won't swear to it. The car was upside down and mangled wreck. I was afraid to look inside, as I thought it was an 11-80 (serious injury accident) and 11-44 (Coroner's case). A drunk came walking up the ramp and he was the driver. Was thrown clear of the wreckage and walking and talking like he was perfectly fine. Sometimes drunks do seem to survive these things, perhaps because they're so loose, but I'm not completely sure what that is.

That Amazon truck barely got a scratch on the bumper….but that pickup truck is absolutely demolished/ unrecognizable! Had he not been thrown, he would definitely have been taken by the coroner! 😳

I once saw a car that had driven under a moving train car and tumbled about a mile down the track under it before the train stopped. I though that was the worst wreck I ever saw. This is a close second.

Speaking from experience of getting ejected in a crash years ago, sometimes chances of survival are higher than being in the vehicle such as this case. In mine all I had was several cuts, chipped elbow.

I like the way people assume that alcohol or drugs were involved. Maybe just plain stupidity was the reason? It doesn’t always mean drunk or high. Yes it does involve those situations a lot of times but not always. Medical issues could also be the reason.
