New express lanes, alreday congested hahaha! What a well representative of Ontario's way : always planned for cars (and congestion). Although, thanks for the great ride. 401 remains very impressive

Remarkable video! Thanks for helping me to enjoy driving on my favorite highway and get my complete satisfaction of traveling without the slightest hassle of driving. Whenever someone has a little time to watch - fast speed video can be very satisfactory, but when someone has plenty of time to watch - then normal speed also can be full of fun. In conclusion: Good job and keep up the good work. 👍😊🍷

How do you find the highways of Toronto, compared to those of Sydney, Melbourne, etc?
@gledatelj1979 Жыл бұрын
401 east of Toronto is a small 2 lane road which makes it rather small.

Way, WAY east of Toronto and all areas east to Montreal will be under construction to be 6 lanes snd it is very busy. Already 6 laned through Kingston.

@@saiharanmuralee7050 I've been to Sydney/Melbourne a couple of times and stayed for awhile. Canadian highways have wider lanes with far more lanes overall per highway. It isn't a good thing though. Despite the size of our highways, we're gridlocked with traffic for most of the day further exacerbated by daily accidents and construction. Come winter time, with terrible weather, it's just as bad. The highways here are the way they are because the country's governments didn't coordinate and develop a longterm plan to develop the infrastructure to support target immigration levels. They didn't regulate where immigrants moved to so everyone moved here. Our transit systems have been underinvested in for decades now as well so everyone chooses to drive the moment they're able to. This is the result.

13:41 This starting section where you passed the 401 and the collectors lane kept on continuing blew me away as to how the construction workers have been making a lot of effort to complete this highway asap. Once they finish this wide extension of the 401, I bet ya it will be massive, beautiful, and very modern yet!
@AnimeBeefRandoms2 жыл бұрын
Going straight used to bring you back into the collectors but now it brings you into the new express lanes. People still haven't figured out to use the collectors lanes as a shortcut. Saves me 5 minutes daily.
@1986Unlimited8 ай бұрын
Who tf cares if it's beautiful or modern when it's gridlocked most of the day. Everyday, accidents and construction. Drivers are aggressive and tailgate. It's so dangerous and stressful. There hasn't been a time when it wasn't like that. Every 10 years or so, they begin a brand new "Life changing" 10 year construction project of widening. In the end, the project doesn't actually improve usability or quality of life for anybody because 1 million people joined the roads and ramped up congestion, while all that construction was going on. But, we have no alternative to the car over here, to travel the distances we need to go so people drive. Hence, highways this large. That is the Canadian way. Short-sighted. short-term thinking. And everyone outside of this country looks in and marvels at life here. Nobody gets it, until you live here.

Great video and music choice! I wonder if I'll ever be able to drive the 401 without any traffic backups. That view at 6:45 never gets old. Without the local expertise, I picked the new express lanes, at the end, on my back thinking it would be faster and it was way backed up. We just sat and watched traffic in the collector lanes fly by... If I headed into the city an hour later you probably would've caught me passing you on the 427 overpass lol
@AsphaltPlanet12 жыл бұрын
At the end of the westbound express lanes, the left lane ends, which I think was a mistake, the ramp from the collectors should lose a lane, not the other way around, though I'm sure drivers will figure in out over the next few weeks. It's hard to drive the 401 without experiencing any congestion.
@irtbmtind892 жыл бұрын
@@AsphaltPlanet1 It's only temporary, once the extension is fully complete there should be 3 through express lanes all the way through to Milton. You can look at the drawings of the new lane layouts in the environmental assessment.

In addition after using the entire 44 km express lanes of the 401 in Pickering, ON and Toronto, you also used the 9.6 km express lanes in Mississauga and you showed us the update of the construction of the collector-express lane extension from Mississauga to Milton, ON. Thanks! However, the construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2022. If not, then it's extended for 2023-2024.

And if your headed eastbound 401 at airport take the 401 collector east then 427 north then 409 east to 401 it helps trust me

I believe the 401 is the busiest highway in the world. No roadway anywhere carries more traffic. I have looked extensively to find something bigger but can't. There are no 50 lane highways in China either although they have some impressively large toll plazas. The Katy freeway in Houston is not bigger than the 401 either and there are at least 8 sections of freeway in other American cities bigger than the Katy. To understand how that false claim about the Katy came into being just check PolitifactTexas "World's largest freeway isn't where Sylvester Turner thinks it is."

Express lane construction in Scarborough, Toronto between Kennedy Rd and Markham Rd? How many months left will it take for them to be done?

Two more years. They should have the lane configuration completed by next year, but an additional year will be required for top coarse paving.

A couple of observations: 3:43, very interesting looking pedestrian overpass. Also, do all of the toll roads in Ontario have blue signage instead of the green signs? I always thought blue was only used on the collector lanes on the 401. Great video!
@AsphaltPlanet12 жыл бұрын
Yes, for whatever the reason, toll roads in Ontario are signed with blue signs. Historically toll roads in Quebec were also signed with blue signage as well. Until recently there were a few remainder blue signs on some of Quebec's former toll roads but I think they've all been replaced now.
@urgeeked39772 жыл бұрын
@@AsphaltPlanet1 Well, it makes sense since most countries around the world use blue signs for toll expressways to avoid confusion with standard freeways that use green signs.
