Andrea Horwath (the leader of the opposition) keeps in check the governmental system for what a massive number of Ontarians that, in fact, did not vote for Doug Ford. The position of the leader of the opposition is there to remind the house of what the people who did not vote in the Premiere. The more seats the the opposition has, the more voice and more power they should hold. It would be the same if Andrea Horwath won and Doug Ford was the leader of the opposition. The winning party should never have 100% of the power as that is not how democracy works nor how it should ever work.

real living Again, please do your research before making your opinion. In the 2014 election, Liberals won a majority with 58 seats. NDP's who mostly supported the carbon tax won 21 seats and the PC's had 28 seats. That's a difference of around 50 seats. 2018, the PC's won with 76 seats, the NDP came out with 40 seats and the Liberals ended up with 7. That is a difference of only around 30 seats. The two opposition parties hold more power than the PC's did when the Carbon Tax was first introduced. Why be informed when you can just use your feelings as facts? Mhmm

Doug Ford has done this Toronto council reduction out of spite, for the way his brother Rob was treated. Reducing the number of councillors Toronto has will only save around $25 million, over 4 years and compound problems. The citizens will have a tougher time getting things dealt with. The people of Ontario that voted for Doug Ford, and the Tories (PCs), voted in a Mike Harris clone. Mike Harris disdained democracy and his bad policies harmed many people. That explains why the Tories (PCs) took so long to get back into power in Ontario. Ontario used to have good Tory (PC) governments. That was before the 1990s.

There was consultation, which I believe was lengthy, to determine ward boundaries and the number of wards. So there's the decision, for where to draw the lines, and how many wards are needed. But also, there's the issue when changing the number of wards. It's a really big process changing election boundaries. There are many rules of follow. For example the boundaries need to have equal representation. They have to give notice to residence. They have to prepare the ballots, dates, locations ect. So it's a lengthy and expensive process, according to councillors to change the wards. So when they were doing the study, it didn't make sense to determine the best boundaries that day, because they would be implemented in 2019. So it instead of drawing up boundaries for 2019, then having to do the whole process over for 2022. They made the boundaries for 2022, so they don't have to do the process all over again.
