Ive ridden older style trail bikes and motorcross bikes, brand new ones and everything in between, and honestly the klx is as good as you'll ever need if you look past the weight. They're an absolute animal of a bike

After 2 decades of sport bikes, I got a drz400, Glasshouse is a spot that can go from mild to wild (then it rains). Some tracks I've driven in a 4x4 but its still easy to get lost. I'm not up to you skill level yet, work in progress. There are some steep trails in the D"Aguliar state forest as well.

It's a different world isn't it?! I still haven't ridden at the million other spots like Amamor, Maleny and the likes. I've been all around Kenilworth and Imbil on adv bikes, but dirt bikes open up so much

Beautiful area to ride, just a head's up if you haven't already you might want to clean the oil screen the KLX 450 gets clogged with the factory silicon I done my 2013 and 21 model's at 600 and 800km and both were clogged between 60 to 80 percent. It's a shame these bikes are no longer going to be sold in Australia as from next year due to poor sale's. I was lucky enough to get the second last one left in the country and pick it up this week. Love the videos mate keep them coming 😉

Thanks for the heads up mate, I haven't checked it and will do. Just checked out a video from an Aussie bloke and looks like abit of work. I'd love them to update the bike, 6 speed and efi with the same reliability...count me in

It’s a great fun bike for trail riding, maybe a bit heavy for hard enduro. I rode it for the first time stock at the glasshouse mountains and it wasn’t great, constant flame outs, needed the idle turned up a lot and the gearing definitely needed changing. A few quick mods, JD jetting kit, open up the air box, gearing to 13/50 and it was a different bike. Love riding it now!
@onthebackwheel3 ай бұрын
Nice mate and good info. I'll look at what I'm running and what needs to be modded. The fuelling was spot on so I reckon the jetting must be done already

For a "do most things" bike, the KLX450R is hard to beat. I regret selling mine, but it's hard to justify more than 3 bikes 😅 Nice to see them gaining some recognition, it feels like they were greatly overlooked compared to the ever present WR450.

@@krazed0451 yeah maybe, you never know with the Japanese brands though. Look at the DRZ, CRF450, KLX250/300. Not much movement for long period of time. Would love a new one based off the newer KX-F

Speaking of big older trail bikes …there was a restored IT490L for sale here on Gold Coast , they had $13000 on it on gumtree or Bikesales , I offered $5000, it was sold for probably near $13000 within a week ,as ad was removed . Used to own an IT200L, that was one lightweight fun do anything motorbike , but back in the day always wanted the 490. I think your direction of demonstrating that a cheaper bike can be just as capable as bikes that six or seven times as much might start a trend …and the bonus is you don’t need a RACQ ultra membership as you would need riding a KTM.😊

Worth trying a slightly bigger pilot jet to help with the flame outs. Also worth trying to find a flywheel weight if they available.

Looked like you found someone's XC race loop (the pink ribbons). I LOL'd at your thoughts on the bike, I have the exact opposite thoughts when jumping on ADV bikes after riding and racing dirtbikes for many years. "Wow I have to slow down so much to keep the rims off the rocks! Holy hell this is a lot of work! It's like I'm riding a moving elliptical machine!" Hahaha . Endless fun though!

Looks like an amazing area to ride mate and if you're having fun, that's good enough. I noticed your KLX has an aftermarket exhaust. The stock KLX pipe gives more bottom end for trail riding. Downside is it covers access to the oil filter.

Had a blast mate. She's got a FMF power bomb, glad it fixes up the oil filter problem, though I guess not that big an issue

Thank's for sharing mate. Great that you are enjoying the KLX. Maybe it needs a heavier flywheel, and some gearing changes? I'm sure you'll get used to how it runs. The riding you covered my DR650 laps that up. Road, mild off-road. However, as the pace increases, and the ruts and obstacles increase that KLX will come into a world of its own, I'm sure.

Cheers. Yep it seemed to be better the faster I got, especially in the single and two track. I'll definitely look at the gearing, she's not too far away

As obviously you are a very good rider, do you think you could take your V strom everywhere you took the KLX? And if so how much quicker would the KLX be over the same terrain ?
@onthebackwheel2 ай бұрын
I have ridden a lot of those places on the vstrom, great fun. It's just that single track, no way would I want to do that on the big girl! The pace isn't too different in the open stuff, you can really send it on the big bike through there. It's just when it gets remotely technical you will fly past, especially in tight sections, washouts and jumps

Love to get one, but unlike situation in the US, this KLX300 is not road legal in Australia due to lack of ABS. So can be only used as off-road enduro bike (similarly to WR250 or 450 EXC). The closest alternative has to be CRF300L from honda, slightly better engine tuning but lot worse in suspension.

I'd probably jump on a new klx300 if they bought them over. No idea what the logic is there

If Kawi made a car, I would own one {and probably Curtis too}. Iv owned 4 KLX and loved them all, but never the rare 450 here in US. I can hear what sounds like a pumper carb whistle on yours, I hated that on my CRF450X trying to trail ride at Not Race Pace. Jerky and stalled easy, had to have the idle up around 1,800. OEM Kawi came with the CV carb, which didnt give the snappy performance but it was super smooth and self adjusting to a lot of altitude/temp changes so I preferred them. Im late to the KLR party, but just took my '24 for first long +200 mile all offroad trip yesterday and went everywhere my KLX300 did except 100 miles further. I fricken love it, very capable offroad. Had a few moments almost as bad as your first few vids of the '22 KLR, lol. But starting to get older and the enduro riding isnt as appealing as long days exploring. As always man, love your channel and still cant stand yuppies like Big Rock lmao.
