He might have a natural tendency towards dancing, ie a natural knack for it but he never explored until entering the company. But, he's also an extremely hard worker and also very detail-oriented so that might have helped too. Depending on what types of sports he did before training can also help, or if he did sports at all.

Yes ! You are absolutely right ! At first when I stan nct, taeyong really caught my eye because of his dance move, charisma and his visuals. I don't think anyone is denying he can dance. The KQ Fellaz dances showed this- as he often had central roles. He and Hongjoong got the furthest in MN after passing the dance eval yet are bottom here. This is just based on one video of one performance. It doesnt account for who's singing, nor that each member here is dancing as they would for a stage performance (hence footwork being different as it adapted to moving positions on stage). This video is just a bit of fun, and just one person's opinion, it's not going to be accurate.

No lie Jongho is actually a really strong dancer but since he has to save up energy and stamina for that final belt right before the break he didn’t get much spotlight in Wonderland. KQ Fellaz, aka where he didn’t have to sing, shows that he’s actually a damn good dancer when he can put all of his stamina into performing

@키미 he does, but since their performances aren't for winning a dance competition and being evaluated by judges about just their technique alone, it's one of those 'yeah he does but it plays into their entire performance' things. I don't think it's ever truly possible to separate a K-pop performance down into presence, vocals, and technical dancing unless you're in a competition about those things and there's judges evaluating each one separately. To me, San's overdancing makes him extremely interesting to watch perform and it fits into their performance-based pirate concept very well. So yeah San may not be the best technical dancer, he may overdance, but he's still an incredible performer and becoming a truly incredible dancer, and at the end of the day, having the versatility and overall performance put together is where it's all at to me. (ymmv, but that's just my perspective on things.)

Everyone asking the same question: “HOW SAN IS NOT MAIN DANCER?” Let me explain. ‪ San had no dancing experience before he joined KQ. He was even the worst one when it came to dance. He was almost giving up because he couldn’t do well in monthly evolution and couldn’t join the others. Even now the members & San make fun of his audition for KQ. He did EXO Overdose and he couldn’t even do the easy moves. He entered the company with his great vocal skills & he’s lead vocalist of ATEEZ. Even now he keeps taking vocal lessons & keeps improving. Let’s talk about his dancing skills now. San has a great body for a dancer. He was playing volleyball & basketball a lot. He was a libero & hitter. He has 3rd degree black belt in taekwondo. So his hips & body are very flexible & strong. 1 Million dance studio’s owner & choreographer Lia Kim said that his dancing skills surpass the human’s body of expected capabilities. His high level strength and flexibility are impressive, he can play the center role in any performance. She also said he’s a fast learner. San used his body, which was born for dancing, very well. Like how members said he’s unstoppable hard working guy in the group. He has worked so hard. His hard work, passion & determination payed off. And today he came to the level that everyone asking “How he’s not a main dancer?” And about KQ positions that KQ shared 2 years ago, before their debut.... the position list they shared 2 years ago doesnt even matter now because all members have improved and changed a lot. San is a member that shows the greatest development and change for the members and the others. We don't need titles to see the facts. We all know that he has main dancer materials right now. Like his height is 1.73 in position list BUT he’s 1.75 now. We shouldn’t ignore the fact and say he’s still 1.73 because KQ didn’t update yet, right? 😃 Also all dancers have their own style & way while dancing. Some dancers dancing more controlled, some dancers dancing more stronger & powerful, some dancers dancing so gracefully that they are extremely graceful, some dancers are full of energy that will blow you with energy at any moment. Being different doesn’t make them less talented than each other. Please stop comparing SAN’s style to the other members. It’s obvious that our members have different style & way. Also San having a main dancer material doesn’t mean that other members don’t have it. A lot of groups have more than one main dancer. Our ATEEZ also has a lot of main dancers~ 😃 Professional calls him “The Man Who Will Upgrade The Standard Of Kpop Performance” Nonfans call him “One of the best dancers & performers of Kpop.” When it comes “4th Gen’s Best Performer” even nonfans say “Choi San.” So I can’t understand why those ATEEZ fans are very salty about him being No1 here? Instead of fighting with each other, let’s learn how to appreciate his hard work. Like how the members said, he’s THAT member good at everything. We should be very proud that he’s a part of ATEEZ.... And I hope people will stop commenting under the comments about San. Ateez is not a super popular group and we have a very long way to go. i feel like nobody ever talks about this but jongho has always been an incredible dancer too (always getting center in kq fellaz performance videos and in sicko mode plus his GODTIER drop-to-the-floor "hmmm" part in hala hala) only his dancing hasn't been able to shine like it used to especially in ateez choreographies bc he has to conserve energy as the main vocal in conclusion jongho all-rounder boy who deserves more appreciation for his dancing skills!

Yees I agree! I remember that when I first watched the performance video of lick, I was shocked with jongho's performance (specially at the beginning when he's in the center), and in sycho mode. He's a great performer like the others, but we don't really see it because the parts where he is focused in the performances, he is just doing maybe more relaxed or easy movements because he's hitting those high notes, and it's obvious that singing that high and stable while executing super powerful dance steps it's not a good combination. I feel that his dancing and facial expressions are underrated.

KQ really needs to update Ateez’s profile and switch san into a main dancer. I know he wasn’t a good dancer when he first joined the company but he’s improved SO MUCH and it’s astonishing how on the profile he’s only listed as a lead vocal. Edit: To clear any misunderstanding, I did not ever state that San having a main dancer title discredits any of the other members skills. And I do understand positions on the profiles are just a titles and in the end they do not mean anything. I’m personally not too active in the fandom to know that San being a great dancer was known factor esp when the profiles I read said never stated anything about his dancing (which is why I commented). In any case, all the members are always improving and I would not be surprised to see some of the member’s ranks change in the future. So please do not think I’m overestimating/underestimating any of the member’s dancing

I laughed my whole ass off when bd I read the “Yunho unfit facial expressions for particular movements” part because it’s so true. IMO Yunho is def the best dancer in this group (even if San and Joong are better performers IMO) but I have a hard time taking him seriously in darker concepts. He is beyond perfect in cute concepts like wave, but in darker concepts I think he doesn’t quite fit in, because his natural tendency is to be cute (for lack of better phrasing lol). Hongjoong is not even close to as good a dancer as Yunho and yet his performance always stands out to me more because he can execute any concept perfectly, whether it’s cute or intense or dark. At the end of the day Yunho is my second or third fave in ATEEZ but sometimes I feel frustrated because I really really feel like he has so much untapped potential because he feels uncomfortable expressing serious concepts.

I agree that Yunho should've worked more on his facial expression. I pay attention to him closely because he's my bias and yes, he excecutes the movement really clean and detailed (it's his style) but his facial expression doesn't always fit. I believe he's able to show great facial expression because I've watched him imitating other members in reality show and he reaaaally did it very well. San has really good control of his lower body movements because of his background in taekwondo (martial arts centered on kicks), so it makes sense that he knows when to tighten and when to loosen up in terms of execution. Yunho? Not surprised. Mingi? Also not surprised. Seonghwa is actually one of the least flexible in Ateez and he has longer legs so I can see where he’d have trouble with lower body movements. And for the others I can totally see what you’re talking about. You must’ve watched these videos at least 8 times to compare angles, lines, focal points and executions so I really do applaud you.

I totally agree with this analysis🤗 tho I'm a Yunho stan, Wonderland choreo requires a lot of power and flexibility, San did that a little more better than Yunho. A fact check that San has an athletic physique, flexible and light body that's why he fits more in this choreo( whatever,, he's just really good ) facial expression wise he's on point ,that makes him stands out the most. But what i really love about Yunho is that He is the Main Dancer that doesn't really try hard to standout. san is incredible, i think one of his only weaknesses is that sometimes he seems really tense, which usually is no problem and actually helps his performance (bigger throws, higher jumps, he can lock super hard etc) but sometimes you can see the tension in his upper body especially, like he needs to relax his shoulders or let out a breath or something haha. that will for sure come with time tho, he's already improved soooo much, crazy to think he has no prior dance experience. san and taeyong (my 2 biases may i add) just prove how much untapped potential there is out there!!

One thing great about the members is that they believe they’re all great dancers and all that’s different is their style and whose style fits the song. I remember in an interview, Yeosang was asked who’s the better dancer between San and Yunho. Then ateez rephrased the question to whose style you like better, with San to Yunho being the range. San has raw talent and raw execution of steps, adding more emotion to his steps. Yunho’s is precise, clean and more practiced. Both are polar ends but are great dancers. San’s body control is just UNREAL. He really caught my eye when I first became a stan and watched their live performers. Truly a stunner onstage, ALL the Ateez members are so charismatic and immerse you in their performance so well!

Not gonna lie i honestly think before i got into the fandom that san is the main dancer and i also stan Ateez because of his dancing (also vocals) skills he just literally stands out and that's why he's my bias.

@@mykamekaylaasis5565 he is not necessarily main dancer material. Most main dancers have different jobs outside of dancing on stage such as choreography and teaching dances. Well he is great and dancing and has a lot of stage presence compared to some of the others who are on the dance line he isn’t as well versed. Along with that he doesn’t have any traditional training or al least not as much as say Wooyoung, Yunho, or Yeosang.(I don’t know much about Mingi so I can’t say). What he really deserves is lead dancer with the other 4 or at least to be on the dance line.

people don't understand that their dance profiles were made *sooooooo* long ago. when san had first joined the company, he was not at the level he is now. which is literally the *only* reason he's not on the list of dancers. he improved a lot, which is evident. this isn't about who the best dancer is, it's who danced "wonderland the best" and it's undoubtedly san, and the reason because the song suits his aggressive dance style. i think most dancers would agree that technically yunho is a better dancer, but i honestly think san has more room to improve because yunho is so tall so his body moves/waves differently. songs like hala hala/wonderland/say my name really suit san's dance style. so he's able to shine more than the main dancers. however, i do think he often overdancers and yunho has more technique and cleaner moves. another advantage san has is he's an incredible performer, like insane one of the best i've seen yet. so it really complements his dancing.
