Lovely job! I’m not a spread, but I can plaster quite well! I’m 77 now and have put approx 600 kgs of render up in the last 10 days over internal stone walls up to 5 cms thick in places! Bit achy now! Anyhow, when I did my small inglenook fireplace over brick too, I simply did it with 4+1 loaded with sbr from start to finish, polished lightly, painted it with quality emulsion and after 2 winters and high temperatures it’s showing no cracks at all! So pleased with it. But I would probably have done it with your gear if I’d known about it! Cheers to all you hardworking spreads out there, and, look after your shoulders by not over reaching!

Limes my thing baby! I always flick a thin coat on a very well damped wall. Nothing but sharp sand and a lime with a slow initial set. The top coat is sieved sharp sand and I finish it by applying news paper to dry the excess water off,this allows me to finish quicker with less risk of cracking. I like the fibre glass fibres and they seem to work well with NHL lime. Brilliant video Kirk.
@TheTreeOctopus3 ай бұрын
Hiya mate, I've done my whole house in lime ( sand and putty and NHL later as it is a lot easier to mix ). I basically self taught myself plastering as I went on. Now.....I would like to redo the very first wall I did as it is not up to scratch and I would now do a much better job. It has a scratch coat and just a top coat (no skim coat). How would I best apply a new lime coat over the existing plaster? I'm concerned it wouldn't take (key). Any advice please? All that's on wall is a lime wash and the plaster is about 10 years old.

A house is likely to outlive you. Before it would have been plastered with something soft, easily removed by hand if necessary, now it is plastered with something hard, will require a power tool to remove. You might say, well why would it need to be removed, let’s revert back to the house outliving you, and the world not revolving around you. There was a solution that could achieve both things, you chose one that ticked one of two boxes, it’s ok, but it’s not the best, and for whatever reason in the future someone may want to remove the chimney etc, they now have to deal with very hard cement, making a naked brick feature is now also very difficult.

Are those galvanised beads? I had heard you need to use stainless with lime products, or the metal will react with the lime over time? I'm not a pro, so maybe that's incorrect or mainly for external work. Seems like a great product! Wish I'd seen this earlier before s&c rendering my chimney breast externals, which can be prone to a little damp. A breathable product like this would have been a better choice. And of course more eco friendly. Great vid as always!
