This is probably my single most favorite Christian hymn ever, although there are many. This song is first and foremost about spiritual warfare, but can also be a tremendous source of inspiration in service to one's country and people. It apparently takes on its true meaning in the midst of difficult times and persecution, becoming an even more powerful incentive to move forward and never cease. A most beautiful rendition.

This march "Onward Christian Soldiers" is a wonderful old Sunday School and Vacation Bible School song I remember all of us belting as members of the children's choir in a Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA during the 1950's! Great, spirited playing and a glorious bass! Thank you for sharing.

Being from New England, every Congregationl Church had this as a staple for a Sunday morning service. But I never could quite figure out why it was sung the first Sunday in June every year. Anyone have any thoughts on that. Love this version . Please keep them coming !!!

Excellent, Rob! I've head about three-quarters of it and then it stopped and the message came up that 'The Adobe Flash Player has crashed!' - I blame it on the speed that you made those Christian Soldiers march! :-) 'Complete Anglican - Hymns Old & New' which fails to understand Spiritual Warfare (they should re-read Paul's Letters) and assumes it all to be to do with soldiers fighting - as in places like Afghanistan - has rewritten the hymn to be 'Onward, Christian Pilgrims'.

Many thanks for posting your latest, Rob. Really enjoyed hearing you play "Onward Christian Soldiers" at such a lively tempo! And I don't think there's any broken pictures as yet in my 2 Bedroomed, pre-war Semi as yet! I've a framed photo of my lovely black cat, Bramble, taken sitting in the bath in 1994, and she's still intact! She was a wonderful pussy friend, Rob, and we missed her so much when she was put to sleep, aged 16. Thanks again and God bless. Charlie, Aberdeen.
