That's quite a lot of money for a middle class Nigerian family. But I guess the monthly pay of the Middle class Canadians will be able to cover the house rent with enough money to go around for food, emergencies and savings/Investments. Or am I wrong?

You’re not wrong, if you earn in Canadian dollars, it doesn’t feel soo expensive compared to the Nigerian naira. But it’s still not cheap living in a high-rise building, so most people result in having roommates.

Downtown apartments are so small. They hacked houses into multiple units and put kitchens in former hallways. I had a downtown unit once where you couldn't sit straight on the toilet because the edge of the toilet almost touched the wall. That apartment cost 400 bucks a month though, 20 some odd years ago.
