I hope you enjoyed this apartment tour. Keep in mind as I pointed out in the video, this is a "studio" apartment, or 1 room apartment as there call here in Russia. The utilities for this place if your the tenant work out to be $26 USD per month extra. The main question though, for the price, could you live here? for a single person or a young couple it's fine. Nice to see a bath in a small studio as so many now just have the shower basin. All this apartment needs is a huge colourful art work on the wall and it will pop. I would be very happy here and having local shops so close in the complex is icing on the cake.

$1,100 is half the salary of a salesgirl at Walmart. This apartment costs 20k rubles, which is about 1/3 of the salary of the salesgirl in the next building. 1100 долларов - это половина зарплаты продавщицы в Волмарте. Эта квартира стоит 20к рублей, что примерно 1/3 зарплаты продавщицы в соседнем доме.

That's why it is wrong to make raw 'nominal' comparisons. But a lot of ppl in the West do it bcz it 'sounds good' (and makes them feel better about themselves if "someone else is poorer than they are"). So... does it matter if person A makes 3000 usd/mo and shells out 1100/mo for a studio, vs. person B makes 500 usd/mo and pays 150/mo for rent? And yet "A" is gonna boast about being "6x richer" ... when they actually aren't. 🤷🏻‍♂️ all it suggests is that the currency exchange rate is artificially maintained unbalanced (i.e., political trickery). When, in fact, both A and B are in a similar situation.

Which single saleswoman has a better life is a difficult debate. In the US, she is more likely to need a car to get to work. Public transportation is very good in the suburbs of Moscow. She can even work just next door. It would seem that in the US a person is richer because he has a car. But with the small salary of a saleswoman there will only be an old car. And it can easily break down. And the cost of fixing the car could easily be equal to that saleswoman's entire salary. A person can experience tremendous stress from random events. In any case, no one envies the life of single unskilled workers. In any given country.

I had a look at the average wage in Russia, around 100,000 roubles a month. So this rent is 1/5 of the average wage. The average wage where I am in the UK is roughly £3,000 a month, yet a place like that near me would be £1,000 a month so 1/3 of the wage. Plus that looked a nice clean area, facilities all within walking distance. Wouldn’t fancy a Russian winter but I guess you’d get used to it. Great video Russell

In Russia, 86k is the average salary. Minus 13% tax. But there are always people who argue that the average salary is equal to the salary of a sales clerk. Of course, not everyone gets the average and more. I think in the US and UK too, less than 1/3 of the population gets the average.

They should do this in the Netherlands. There is a housing crisis for years in the Netherlands, mainly because the number of applicants for housing is far more than available housing. For example, 300 people apply for the same house, only 1 can be accepted. Another reason is real estate pricing, slow construction process and they don't have a system like Russia, China, South Korea to rapidly built new homes. Just for a tunnel the Netherlands spends 20 years. Average housing project in Netherlands is between 2 and 4 years. If they copy the Russian model (small space + affordable) and the Korean / Chinese model (rapidly building + tall buildings) = efficient + low cost = solving housing crisis more effectively.

I won’t say that what Russell shows is bad, but here there is no courtyard and the territory of the houses is open, in other places this is not the case, now most new buildings are required to have a closed courtyard and children’s space.

In London a similar studio apartment would cost a minimum of £800+, that too in a suburban area which is around 1 hour from central London. Most of them are shared apartments/houses where you get one single/double bedroom, with ensuite bathroom and kitchen. At some places even kitchen & bathrooms are shared. It usually includes internet, council tax and electricity bills. It would be good to compare average salaries for few job profiles in Russia versus the US, UK, Europe and Australia. This will give a better idea about affordability of apartments. Fantastic video as always, I enjoy watching Russia through your channel. 🎉

Я живу в трешке и летом моя семья ездила в Питер на месяц так вот я пользовался только своей спальней и все ну и изредка кухней.
