The use of a sponge for holding the unit is very good idea. Also reminds me I need to wash my car.

You can buy back to back gauges with a cut out for gear wheels (Markits) or simple L shaped flat bar type which might work. Anyway glad you got it sorted!

Hi Bill Just found your channel lately and I am amazed at the information you have supplied regarding repair and renovation of older Hornby steam locomotives I am forever grateful and a great admirer as I have collected but not refurbished the older class trains. I cannot wait to see your previous videos

Have just seen this video. Great piece of investigation and problem solving. Really encourages me to not be afraid to tackle most problems with my trains. Thanks Bill.

Hi Bill l bought my back to back gauge from a model railway shop in Malden Essex in 1980 they made them in their own workshop behind the shop it was a milled brass block with a slott for a worm wheel to sit in, available in 14-5 mm and E M gauges, it was the very first model tool I bought lost without it back in 1980 it cost 50pence worth its weight in gold, an alternative is a small Vernier or caliper gauge Draper ATC, by the way Bill very good instructional videos for the novice to promote self help, rgds Rob

Hi Bill I recently bought of a eBay a yellow pacer, it had 2 motors as yours but had 2 pick ups on each axle. Looked like an original fitment. Only issue was that one of the drive axles was so ful of crap it struggled to rotate. All cleaned and its as sweet as a nut. Great videos thanks Bill

I'm wondering if that red worm gear was actually intended for a different loco? Would explain why it doesn't mesh. Good sleuthing. I have a (rare-ish) chocolate & cream Pacer (or 'Skipper' as they were called in the West Country): looks pretty, runs terribly. Must take another look to see if I can work some of your magic on it. Fitting a micro plug and socket in the motor wires would allow easier dismantling next time.

Put back to back tool in vice .cut slot in center of the tool for the cog to fit in

The issue wasn't the drive gear it was the flush mounted, unused gears on the wheels. The gauge already has a slot for drive gears.

I have enjoyed watching both the rebuilds of the 142 & 158, are you going to add the class 150 which Dapol made?

Some people think you should take a hammer to it for it merely being a Pacer, that afront to God of a spawn between a bus and train passenger car! Just kidding. I am a Yank who has heard of the horrible reputation the prototype has. Never name anything "Pacer"! It was a bad American early 1970s automobile its a bad 1970s railcar!
@TallboyDave3 жыл бұрын
Not even that; it's the modified body of a Leyland National bus, on frames based on that of an experimental high speed covered van (what Americans would call a 'boxcar'); a classic example of a 'temporary stopgap' being anything but.
