I have a Megane E-Tech EV60 Iconic model here in France (LHD) I don't think of it as an SUV, more like a large hatchback. Mine has the full size infotainment screen and a camera for the rear view mirror. The audio stalk with the wheel is a Renault thing from the 1990's! I had the same on my Meganic Scenic. We have had ours for over 6 weeks and done just over 1000 km and no issues and really liking the car.

Norwegian here, techno owner(same equipment as you though :) ). Agree with you on everything Done 5k and loving it. It is simply great. As for not a long ride. I live in Western Norway. Driving through to Copenhagen from here will take me one and an half hour longer than in an ice. But thats a lie. It would take 13 hours of straight driving to get there. I would never drive that long without stopping to eat, or just take a breather from driving ICE or not. So.. would I be faster in the ICE? Maybe somewhat.. but I don't get why it should be a race.

I’ve got the equilibre version and the zappi. Charging with the zappi on a schedule doesn’t work. Myenergi and Renault looking into it. Also there is a knocking sound from rarer suspension when you come if a large speed bump. Park button can get stuck but the rest it’s good. Driving us a pleasure. You can get 4+ mpkw but you have to drive efficiently.
@MrEV Жыл бұрын
That's interesting you mention that. I found it did something weird when I charged on a schedule (it kept 'clicking') but did actually work. I've not had a chance to try it again but that's good to know.

It’s hit and miss. Fast charging is generally reliable and eco mode, but sometimes you have to keep unplugging it or start with fast mode and then switch to eco ( as we’ve started getting solar excess). You’ll probably hear from other users about this. Be good if you can mention it in video.

When I remember my dads cars from way back when, none of them had particularly good rear windows. Having said that, I think I've become "spoiled" in recent years by having cars with glass roofs or glass hatchebacks....or both. If I get into a rear seat of car now and its dark, i start feeling a little claustrophobic. But otherwise, looks good. Might be one for "the list" when I'm up for a new car.

Thanks for this Andrew. We are starting to see the Megan e-tech on the roads here in France but like most EVs of this size (New Kia Niro EV included) they are €10K more than petrol equivalents like the Qashqai, T-Roc, Peugeot 3008 etc). ..I am still plodding on with our 4 year old e-Niro which I know you ran one of for 2 years. Will be interested to get your impressions of how the Renault compares with that car. I get the impression from other reviewers that it is a really solid car that drives well and is very quiet. What puts me off, apart from the outrageous price, is the small back window and less space in the back than the e-Niro.

Hey Andrew. A french EV channel made a side-by-side road-trip between the Megane and new Niro EV. Despite pretty big gaps in the technical specs, both cars ended up travelling those 620 kms in pretty much the same time. So yes, the Megane is a bit disappointing (probably due to these gigantic wheels that I consider too big for this car size) but still in the game for versatile good EVs. The overall consumption is not far from a model 3 standard range (but the Tesla beats competition on charging).

I do like the styling compared to many of the other manufactuers rounded designs. The interior also appeals with modern design and usable buttons which is great to see given the move to all touch screens. Certainly a car I would consider. The sterile, poor build quality, horrid interior, ugly Tesla is so dated compared to the Renault. It's tech is so 'yesterday'. Brilliant move by Renault going to the experts, Google! By the way, Renault say the 0-60 time is 7.5 Sec, but independent reviewers have clocked it at 6.9 Sec (that's Mini Cooper S territory, but with that lovely instant torque).......how typically French, underplaying!

We to the (excruciating) launch at a local dealer but found that although the volume by litres of the boot was large, the shape meant you couldn't get a wheelchair in without folding the seats - so size isn't everything... Also, I think as you have these cars for a while you should concentrate more on the 'living with' angle than the stuff all the other new car reviewers do as your 'speciality' - the professional journalists all cover the same stuff over and over again - just an opinion.

Totally understand trying various cars and it is a brilliant way of testing various cars.... However, £799/mth is a tad strong!! My lease is £285/mth with a £2,000 deposit. 8,000 miles per year. Lease is over 30 months.... Yes, the insurance (£440/yr) and electric is £35/mth is additional. But you will have paid £24,000 over 30mths and I will have paid £10,700
@MrEV Жыл бұрын
When did you get your lease? Onto aren't actually too far off with their prices when I look around. Looking at Leaseplan as an example, a Megane of the same spec is £825/month. That's 1 month upfront, 24 months, 10k miles/year, with maintenance. Obviously a longer lease will be cheaper but I think all leases at the moment are just stupid money.
@mikadavies660 Жыл бұрын
@Andrew Till / Mr. EV I signed up for the lease in October and the car arrived in January. Recently the prices have increased, but Leaseloco still show the Megane for around £340/mth. Every so often they do special deals. So getting below £300/mth is still possible. 24mth & 36mth deals are usually the time periods ... I got mine by calling directly and was offered 30mths at the best possible rate.
@MrEV Жыл бұрын
@@mikadavies660 Great tip about Leaseloco! So it's £551.47/month for two years on the Megane then, with 1 month upfront. (I'm always trying to match the Onto terms as much as possible!)
@mikadavies660 Жыл бұрын
@Andrew Till / Mr. EV Best thing with leaseloco is to sign in and sit back. Every so often they will offer special deals. Most are NOT special. Now and again there will be a good one. The best way to test the deal...is to call the leasing company directly and ask "what is the optimum length of hire?" As the really best deal might still be a different number of months from those advertised. Annual mileage and months all matter. Deposits definitely do not need to be large and can also be negotiated. Good Hunting.

I really liked the Megane e-tech when I went to a launch event at my local dealership. It looks incredible inside and out and oozes quality What I just don’t understand is why they have made it so narrow, it is narrower than a Zoe and narrower than a Nissan Ariya which is on the same platform. This sounds minor, but I have 3 kids to fit across the back and they wouldn’t in any comfort. I also need to fit a large hockey goalkeeping bag in the boot and it wouldn’t fit between the wheel wells - it fits in a Renault Scenic with room to spare. What were Renault thinking for what is meant to be a 5 door family hatchback? As Andrew mentions space, when I sat in the back I couldn’t fit my feet properly under the front seats So a beautiful, but flawed and £5k too expensive near miss for me

Everyone that climbs onto a Megane thinks the interior is dark -couldn't the designers have noticed that?
@theta2170 Жыл бұрын
I just can't see how these subscription services even begin to be a sensible option. I get that 'everything' is included, but you are maximising your monthly expenditure, which isn't overly sensible right now. £800/m for a Renault is absolutely insane.
@MrEV Жыл бұрын
I agree it’s a lot of money, but if I were to do a standard lease it’d cost about the same but I’d have an upfront payment, be locked into a two year contract, and no insurance or charging would be included.
@theta2170 Жыл бұрын
@@MrEV A standard term lease of one of these would not even come close to £800/m. In fact, I just looked and you can do 2 years, 5k miles, 1.4k upfront for £470/m. The insurance is probably quite cheap for a car this size. The ONLY benefit is flexibility if you really must change cars every other month.

We decided not to buy the Megane electric because at the time no heat pump, no reverse screen on the rear view mirror option, limited range and rear space limited. We now gave the 77kw Cupra Born V3 with heat pump and Michelin sports tyres.

It doesn't look that different in terms of size to an id3 but the rear legroom / cabin space on the id3 is massive in comparison - on that basis would you say it's badly designed?
@MrEV Жыл бұрын
The ID.3 is a little longer (by 61mm!) but it certainly feels better for back-seat passengers. That said, you get a bigger boot in the Megane. I wouldn't say the Megane is badly designed at all - in fact, for some families it'll be the better choice given the boot size. Difficult to choose between the two, but in terms of infotainment/buttons/tech I'd say the Megane wins; for passenger comfort and ride I think the ID.3 is better.
@nickthorley1 Жыл бұрын
@@MrEV thanks. Sorry didn't mean the whole car was badly designed ( actually like the Megane) just meant the interior space. Like you say I guess you choose between interior space or boot

I wish I’d just taken a pic of what I got in mine. A small electrical panel, two 100m drums of network cable, a beer crate sized box, a laptop rucksack, granny charger, on board espresso maker and still had about 10/15% of capacity left. It’s deep but I find it very useable.

It doesn't look like a ground up EV design. The rear seats lack space and looks so dark in there. Ten years ago I was looking to buy a new car, not an EV back then, had a look at a Clio but claustrophobic in the back with a similar sized rear window to this Megane. Seemed to be a fashion at the time. Anyway, ended up buying a diesel (yes I know!) Skoda Roomster which is roomy 😊 and airy and has performed faultlessly. For some of us, that's all we need from a car. Am now retired and do less than 6000 miles annually. When the time comes to replace the Roomster the Megane will not be on my candidate list.
