On Intelligent Go with solar panels and houes batteries Charge the car and house batteries at night so ites a total winner. House and car run on on cheap overnight wind energy 7p/kwh while can export most my solar during the day for 15p/kwh. Everyone wins, I get cheap energy overnight while I support the grid with cheap carbon free electricity during the day.

Where did you get this car? I a museum? The average range of a new EV in 2025 is about 300 miles and growing each year. But entertaining video, interesting to see how much progress there has been with EV's in such a short space of time.

My other car is an e-Niro which easily gets 300 miles in summer. This is our cheap and cheerful second car!

@@MrEV Nice! EV's are making such a quick progress on range, price and sustainability. I would not be surprised if we see average range double to 600+ miles over the next few years. There are already some models close to that and a few over 500miles, though these are still expensive

I just have to comment about what was said at 13:55. The only reason that is true is because he chose 2 cars that use LFP batteries. When people have a problem with how Cobalt is mined it is quite reasonable because the other batteries use a lot of it. From what I can find, a phone uses a few grams but non LFP batteries use several kilos. I know that there are people who are against ev's and some that are very pro ev but for both sides there has to be honesty and no sugarcoating to make one side seem better. I am looking for my first ev but I do have the mining of the contents of the batteries as a point of worry.

My only question: why replace two modules when only one cell was bad? Obviously you have to replace the module which has two cells- but why the one beside it? Does it balance itself off of or load the adjacent module?

Very relatable. These Flaviana reviews are super relevant - women have a knack for finding the silly, annoying and irrelevant 'features' of a car and shining a pragmatic light on them! My wife has never bonded with my Teslas and finds all the stuff that i quite like really annoying. She just wants to get in and drive, and somehow the Tesla never does that for her - something always fails to work - it won't unlock, the screen won't react, it won't take the pin number, it won't go into drive etc etc etc. I wonder if i just tolerate these things or whether its just her?! Its at the point where my next car might have to not be a Tesla! (after all, i need her to bond with my car so someone can drive me home from the pub occasionally!! 😂)

I just wanted to comment to say that my husband found your channel first as he is obsessed with EVs and while I was tidying around the house I overheard Flaviana and she made me actually LOL and then I sat down and watched the whole video (it was a road trip video which I think was over an hour) and that surprised my husband because I’ve never been interested in any of his KZbin videos! Now I have subscribed to your channel and I never miss a video and funnily enough, I now want an electric car too and I love your EV reviews, your family and house updates, everything! You and your family are so lovely and your wife is hilarious!!

You are going to fry your Tesla's onboard charger with this EV solar charging system. The high frequency, transformerless inverter that's used in this system doesn't provide any galvanic isolation between its DC boost stage and its AC output. All it would take is for a single MOSFET in the H-Bridge circuit to short to ground and pass high amperage DC current through to your Tesla and you'll set your Tesla on fire and void your Tesla's warranty. Don't take my word for it, ask Google AI "Can a high frequency, transformerless inverter damage and EV?"

I thought i should relate the experiences of two EV-owning neighbours of mine:- Both own cars manfactured by the VW Group - one is an Audi, the other is a Skoda. One was solar, the other does not. Both neighbours have found that under Intelligent Octopus GO, their cars will complete one charging cycle then shut off and won't then accept the next cheap rate charge session. As one of these neighbours doesnt have solar power, this cant be attributed to the force-discharge of a home battery. This has been referred to VW and a response is awaited.

I have the car for 1 day and I can honestly say, this is distracting me more than it is helping me. I used to drive a simple car, just a radio and basic bluetooth connection. I was focused on the road but this, seriously constantly beep new speed limit, beep new sign, beep you're turning your head too much. It's like someone constantly sitting next to you telling you how to drive. Whoever came up with this must be a woman. I honestly hope the EU starts using their brains and A: gets rid of this. B: Gets rid of the excessive bright headlighst or at least change the standard of how high they should be beaming because I used to be able to see pedestrians and cyclists but with these new white LED light from other cars, I can't make out anything anymore. Because of this I've already made sure my light are on the lowest setting, but tons of people don't care and just keep them on the highest possible setting it's really annoying and dangerous.
@MrEV3 күн бұрын
If you make sure you’ve updated the car’s software, you can now turn it off by holding down a button on the steering wheel. Still annoying, but at least it’s easier to turn off.

Great video. This is 30% more expensive than our diesel (also only £30 road tax, tyres £25 each, insurance £180). So total cost per mile is way cheaper. We cannot charge at home, so would not buy an EV (yet). We do have a yard with 3-phase power though. So maybe. But, if everyone had an EV and did this "graze" charging, it would mean that ALL public chargers would be full all the time. Also, a group of chargers will have a maximum draw from the grid, so if all chargers are occupied, your charge time could quadruple.

Do you know there are ventilation systems that heat the cold incoming air with the outgoing warm air ? If not, then that might be something to look at for your next house 🙂
@MrEV3 күн бұрын
Is that MVHR (Heat Recovery Ventilation), as used in Passivhaus? Definitely something to look at in the future, although quite expensive to retrofit as I understand it so perhaps worth looking at if we do a whole house refurbishment.

Honestly in uk EV’s not worth jt anymore. Now we will need to pay road tax and also congestion charge in London. So what’s the point to have one with this horrible charging prices. I have home charger and solar but still say just not worth the hassle.
@MrEV4 күн бұрын
I think it depends how much you need to use public chargers. If you can charge at home, especially overnight or with solar, then you're saving a fortune on fuel - even with the added road tax now.

When I used to live in the UK, has a conservatory 'professionally' fitted, with a glass roof. Was cold as hell in the UK winter. Go around when it's warmed up, at the roof joints and find all the points where the air comes in. Seal with some expandable foam. Wear gloves when you use this and put paper on the floor. Although not allowed, we got the plumber to extend the wall radiators into the conservatory once it had been approved. Was much warmer and, as gas, is much cheaper than electric, not so expensive. Get an air source heat pump over solar or batteries. Buy and EV with V2H and use it as a battery. Look at a 'balcony solar system' which you can put in the garden if needed, as most places lack a balcony. Personally I like the Ecoflow and Powerstream. You can take it with you when you move. With a powerstream almost given away for free with each ecoflow product, I am sure you can get one on ebay. I am sure you can pick up two second hand panels for it from somewhere. Just check the voltage of the panels. For branches you can hire a 'chain saw on a pole' for 100-200 quid for a day. Throw rope over the branch and tie. Drag them out of the pond when they fall in after cutting. Chain saws can also cut off limbs, so be careful. Trees may also be protected, so can not be just trimmed/cut. Can you not buy an underwater pump (few hundred quid) and pump out the pond? Then just fill half of it with gravel (or something) you get delivered from the builders yard. The water will presumably collect again in the other half if you actually want a pond. I would guess there are some regulations about what you are able to put in the hole, as the other half is a pond, so a water source. Good luck!

The 24kWh LEAF tends to be okay with battery longevity. It’s the 30kWh that suffers much more. But not leaving it left at 100% really helps - and perhaps the previous owner was careful too.

@MrEV5 күн бұрын
I'd rather buy a high mileage EV than a high mileage ICE car. Far less can go wrong! Just make sure you check the battery state of health using an OBD dongle though. A video about that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoDMipZmf7KJm6c

I have an Italian wife with a similar dry sense of humour, comedy gold 😊! On a serious note, you would increase the value of the house by more than you will spend on the “holy trinity” - solar, battery & heat pump. And rather than putting pipe work and radiators around the place, I would suggest underfloor heating. But please sort out that conservatory (replacing it with a wood frame structure would be fairly reasonable, putting lots of triple glazed glass into it would be quite cheap)!!!

If the whole of the UK goes EV will the National Grid cope ? If the answer is it should, I carry on with my zero depreciating petrol car
@MrEV5 күн бұрын
Why is that a concern now? The UK won’t all go EV for decades. And the National Grid want us to all drive EVs as they help balance the grid. You driving an EV won’t make a difference to the grid, so it’s hardly a good reason to keep your petrol car. I’d be more worried about running out of petrol than electricity to be honest. At least we can generate electricity ourselves without being beholden to other countries.
