The song that launched Donna Summer's amazing career. One of the greatest singers of all time.... Donna Summer. Number 1 hits until 2011. She won 5 Grammy awards in 5 different categories, from Rock to Dance. Donna Summer's name should be mentioned in every conversation about great female singers. Flawless. Pitch perfect. Never a misfire. And the power! She made it all look effortless.

Trust me when I say, this song rocked people's world back in the mid 1970's. Some people got REALLY bent out of shape over it. Lol.

The 17 minute version is the more explicit one and some countries banned the song I believe the BBC did in the uk radio stations could only play it at certain times.

You american are so prudish 😉 in the 70s (after the 60s sex liberation) it was a experimental, opimistic and free time. That all sadly ended with AIDS in the 80s. I was 15 when this record released and loved the extended version, a little bit embarased, but loved the synths and groove. My mom hated it 😅

She became a born again Christian in, I believe, 1980. Her career didn't stall. She still sold out concerts. She just wasn't as successful in the '80s and beyond then she was in the '70s. I'm sure she was fine with that. A person has to do what feels right in their heart and conscience. That's more important then success. Needless to say, she was successful, just not as successful from the '80s forward.

@JimmieJamOfTheDay well said 👏🏽🙌🏽Donna still had a massive hit with "She works hard for the money " that was 80's,1st video on MTV of a woman of color.."State of Independence " put up decent numbers,"Wanderer," Unconditional love, " was early 90s. Big on the R&B charts ....she remained relevant and still could sell out shows on tour.🤎🫶🏽
