This is the song which brought her back to America in 1975. In an interview, I heard Ms. Donna say ¨disco is the ship I came -in, on, but I am a singer." I remember her career in the seventies very well. Indeed, it was! Although Ms. Donna had been crowned the ¨Queen of Disco¨, and made many songs in that similar ¨sexy¨style: she fought hard to be seen beyond the ¨disco ¨mode. Often, she was on tv performing non- disco songs which showcased her range and versatility. Eventually, the world realized that she was a major vocal talent with exceptional abilities. In the process, Ms. Donna became an international superstar She was a fantastic voice for every season!

She was known as the Queen of Disco back in the 70's. "Love To Love You Baby" was written and produce by Giorgio Moroder back in (1975). They collaborated together on all of her major blockbuster hits. This was a very sensual song that caught many by surprised. Nevertheless it became a platinum record and a monster hit for her. You can never go wrong in going "Down The Rabbit Hole"... That is Donna Summer. So sorry she is no longer with us. May she rest in peace. Great reaction as always.

Donna thought she was entering the studio to record a demo. To make her comfortable singing the song, Giorgio Moroder (producer) got everyone to leave the studio, it was just himself (in the booth) and Donna behind the mic. The lights were down very low, candles were around, the mic was lowered and Donna recorded, the steamy salacious single. He released the song in Europe, on his Oasis Label, the song was banned by the BBC and many other conservative countries in Europe. In US, Rev Jesse Jackson and PUSH campaigned against the song, to have it removed from several radio stations. It peaked at #2 on the Billboard Charts on Valentines Day 1976. Giorgio had sold the North America Rights to the song to Neil Bogart of Casablanca Record. Neil played the song at party, and his guests kept requesting that he play the song over. He called Giorgio in Germany and requested that he make a longer version. Thus we had the first extended mix of a song, it was the entire first side of the Album at16:50 (released in 1975). It was also the first extended mix commercially available to consumers. When you move forward into her career, she progresses out the boudoir (where they steered her for her first 3 albums), which were released 6 months apart. Into Pop Music's first female mega star.

Donna actually didn't want to see anyone while recording this so she asked to turn down the lights and she than imagined how Marylin Monroe would sing the song, so she layed on the floor and pretended to be Marilyn while recording the song. She didn't really prepare any lyrics so a lot of it was add libbed

NOW you're in the shit. Donna Summer is and always will be the Queen Of Disco and know you're beginning to hear why. I recommended a bunch of others when you listened to "I Feel Love", so don't stop now. Donna had a big and wonderful voice and she shows it in those other songs. "Last Dance" should be next. RIP Queen, we miss you.

@Hel Gar...I agree 100% but today's use by ...some... of the word s**t to mean something good has got to be the dumbest fad ever...and offensive to many people and should not to be heard or copied by children. I am sure Donna who had real class would not speak or write using such language especially when it adds nothing to the thought expressed and thus is utterly unnecessary. However, like all slang fads, thankfully it will pass but it is sad that many in current society have sunk to the lowest common denominator when it comes to speaking and writing with any respect or propriety. I follow the rule that if you wouldn't say something to your parents and grandparents or in church or in a courtroom then don't say it at all just because you think the word or words are cool or hip or the latest gang or ghetto speech. I would rather anyday be called a prude than a punk. Speech over.
@helgar791
@helgar791 2 жыл бұрын
@@9284vr Well, as a 70 year old we've been using shit in a phrase as a positive since the 70's. If your real objection is how profanity has been normalized in society you'd perhaps have a case. Yet English words such as shit, damn, fuck, and ass have alternately been normalized then demonized for well over a thousand years. Now depending on the culture or the situation, many words and phrases in other languages which are perfectly acceptable are not in ours. More importantly the reverse is also true. For a small example in the 16th and 17th century quoting the bible was seen as blasphemous since it was believed that only the devil would find it safe to do so. A simple biblical quote among Christians then could find you tied to a burning stake. Indeed the Jewish religion traditionally teaches that the name is forbidden to all except the High Priest. To this day most Jews refer to YHWH as him or the almighty. Before the time of Jesus Jews would traditionally not say the Tetragrammaton at all but rather "Adonai". We westerners however have no problem saying "Oh my God", or "For God's sake". In Germany if you were to say you see a puff of cloud they would assume you're speaking of a brothel. In Sweden if you ask a woman for a kiss they'd think you're asking her to pee. The truth is language isn't merely adaptable but generative. Indeed, what you consider foul or profane today will perhaps in the future be mundane, obsolete or obscure. I think perhaps people should really understand that the word is not, nor could it ever be the thing, and we should all refrain from getting our panties in a bunch over a word or a phrase
@9284vr
@9284vr 2 жыл бұрын
@@helgar791...Well I am 72 and likely more conservative in my speech than you given that my father was an editor, my mother was an English and French teacher, my grandfather was a Harley Street doctor who wrote many medical books and textbooks and they all taught me that profanity, toilet talk, call it what you will is never necessary so avoid it. I am a retired defence litigation lawyer and although you have used a lot of words to try to justify what I would call, charitably, lazy speech or less charitably foul language, you have it right when you say that my objection is simply that profanity has slowly over the last couple of decades become normalized in our current (at least "Western") society and I just don't like it when it is never necessary to empasize a point-you can use a triple exclamation point instead like saying Donna Summer was the Queen of Disco!!! I used to call the invasion of foul language into every day speech the Jerry Springerization of speech i.e., the trailer park trashing of our language. Many used to call it low class speech but that is no longer pc to say and I also know even so-called high class people who sometimes swear like sailors and Trump is just one recent example. I don't care about other languages as I am only talking about English but my suspicion is that the normalization of profanity as you accurately call it has (sadly IMO) gone around at least the Western world. As to your last comment, I already indicated that I would rather be called a prude than a (foul mouthed profane) punk and I repeat, what's wrong with the wise advice of our elders that if you would not use a word or words in church or in a courtroom or teach them to your children, why say the words at all...especially when they are simply not necessary to make or emphasize a point? However, despite the proliferation of profanity in some circles (especially in some music and some movies), I think it is notable that, thank goodness, profanity has NOT invaded the daily/nightly newscasts on TV stations like NBC or CBS or ABC or CNN or PBS or even Fox or local TV or radio newscasts either as they must all still think that keeping standards of speech high and that setting a good example for us all and especially our children to follow is surely a good thing!!! I say hooray for them!!! BTW, you at least are using what I call a foul word (that I never use) not to attack someone as many do (as in "you are full of s**t") but oddly enough in a complimentary way and so my objection is not strong. Anyway you apparently see no big deal about using profanity/toilet talk in everyday speech and writing (so is it thus OK to teach it to primary school kids?) and in conclusion, we shall agree to disagree.

I worked at a radio station about five years ago and we wouldn't play the "long" version. I remember it from the 1970's and a lot of radio stations wouldn't play it at all. "More, More, More" by Andrea True is in the same genre, except that was a theme song from a porn film. Now it's used for a coffee commercial - how times have changed.

Has 3 daughters.She was kind and loved to entertain. She loved people and they loved her. Disco music happened in the 70 s and most favorite disco songs was almost every single one she made. She captured the public s attention with her talent and great voice for years. She was so popular with her songs everywhere that she quickly become known as the Queen of Disco. Classy lady and is missed so much. Passed away several years ago.

This is why she was originally dubbed “The First Lady of Love” due to producers trying to sell her as a sex symbol. She came from a Christian background and it was hard for her to try snd fulfill this image. She did musical theater before becoming a star and she said she had to “act” out this song in order to get through it. This song is what really started her career because It was banned in other countries for being too sexual. Listen to the 17 minute version for the full effect 😁 Thanks again for Donna!!! LOVE HER!!!

This isn't even the most risqué version of the song. There was a longer version with a lot more moaning and sexual sounds. Since this was her first US hit (1975), maybe you could go chronologically down the rabbit hole and do her next US hit, her 1975 disco cover of Barry Manilow's "Could It Be Magic?" (though I'd recommend you hear the 1971/'73 Manilow original hit first; it was great). Or you could do her first European hit from a year earlier, "The Hostage" from 1974. For a spectacular live performance of hers, you have to see her 1978 live performance of "MacArthur Park," another song she covered in disco style that became a huge hit.

People used to take their clothes off and throw them at her when she performed this song live. When she performed this song in a large stadium tent in Italy, a riot broke out when the men tried to rush the stage to get to her. Her management whisked her backstage where the mob started rocking her trailer. Italian police had to rescue her. Some of the people there said the men rushed the stage with erections bulging in their pants. Since that incident she refused to perform the song live. But don't let these songs fool you, she's an amazing vocalist. She had a duet with Barbra Streisand that you should check out called "No more tears."

I just saw the musical “Summer” which is her life story. Apparently she hated doing that song. She felt that it gave an impression of her she did not want to reflect.
