It’s almost a home run. If they add a sequencer specifically to quantize a performance which can then be recorded to tape, it would be the perfect machine for me.

Thank you for the video, but a few notes: the tape style doesn't effect the sound of your performance unless you record or arm the tape. I think you hit shift+record+stop to leave it latched on. At that point whatever you play will be effected. Swimply changing the tape will not. Also, the delay is not stereo, unfortunately. Thank you again for the video!

Many years ago, I was drooling over the original unit.... for about 6 to 12 month! The steap price held me back from a purchase but in the end I bit the bullet and brough my first brand new synth.... which I still love and cherish! Now, with the OP-1 Field it's a similar situation. I like everything that I hear and see.... but the price is a bitter pill to swallow (especially if you're just a hobbyist). I feel like it would be much more acceptable if sampling would by now have a time-stretching algorythm similar to the one of the Octatrack or Ableton's warping. Like this I am torn between Octatrack (which I'm afraid not to master) and OP-1 Field which - while being more versatile - isn't as "deep" as the Octatrack and costs almost twice as much! I know you cannot compare these two machines and OP-1 is instant fun etc. but is it really worth twice as much as an Octatrack... I honestly don't know?!? Will be glad to hear other people's opinion(s). PS: I'm not hating against TE and of couse they are free to set the price level for their gear whereever they feel it's right. I just feels a bit overpriced vs other capable machines and it will be even harder to justify the expense this time.... if it will happen at all.... 🤷‍♂️😪

I bought op1 800 euros new 10 years ago, sold it back same price 2 years later because I felt it was too simple, and I went for an octatrack. I still have the OT, but I played it only a few times... It is very repellent, the exact opposite as the op-1. So I think you should wonder how much **effort** you can be pulling out when you are going to create...

Great video, good overview. Mine arrived yesterday. I've already been multisampling piano into the drum synth as you suggested. An upright sound from the Nord grand with bright EQ compression and small room reverb done first in the Nord. Sounds amazing, being able to trigger that in the park on OP-1.

Great, fun and succinct video. When I play live , I turn on a drum sequencer, press Hold, and récord to tape. I turn off sequencer and noticed a significant loss in dynamic range in volume. Is that normal ?? If it is , I can’t play with this thing live. It’s a buzz kill to have such a noticeable difference live.

@morematic
@morematic 2 жыл бұрын
@@darwiniandude The Akai Mpc 61 isn't that portable, but the Akai Live is, and you get a lot more in this bundle. Agree, it's a bit like comparing iMac and iPad. Although in this case the iPad costs the same as a full-fledged iMac ;-)
@samshigi9008
@samshigi9008 2 жыл бұрын
And let’s not forget. IPad and iMac they both use same computer processor(m1,m2) Op-1 and key-61? I don’t think so. If you think of the key-61 as an iMac, the op-1 field ?would be like a Nintende DS…XL maybe? And from what I know, nintendo ds doesn’t cost high like i-Mac even tho you could carry it around.
@darwiniandude
@darwiniandude 2 жыл бұрын
@@morematic some iPad Pro models maxed out can cost a lot more than the base iMac. But yeah I meant more in terms of workflow differences as well as portability differences. The Akai Live is indeed interesting.
@darwiniandude
@darwiniandude 2 жыл бұрын
@@samshigi9008 I meant in terms of size, (put in shoulder bag) usability as an all in one production machine, very different workflows etc obviously one needs to be plugged into power. A DS XL you can't plug that into an audio interface and plug in a couple of condenser mics and record in - you can on iMac OP-1 Field and iPad :) But yeah it's a silly comparison I made really. As for the M1 processor, that's overkill for any audio needs really. Way overkill.

Thanks for a great video! I would love to see a video on how to you take multi samples and set it up on Op1. Do you sample 1 note of C at each Octave? Excellent walk through, thank you! Only note: if you load in a new tape you won’t hear the tape style differences until the tape is armed. If the tape isn’t armed it will be clean. I have been arming the tape but not hitting play to ‘audition’ the sounds with the tape effect applied. You’ll be able to very clearly tell the difference once armed

How many of those feature multitrack audio recording, stereo sampling, battery operation, built in mic and speaker and can fit in a sling bag under your jumper? It's a lot more than a synth. Oh what about USB-C host mode so you can plug an audio interface into the 'synth' and plug your condenser mics in to record from that piano at the market? How many of those synths do that?
