great review this is the only video i’ve found that actually is able to explain the op1 field differences in a detailed and understandable way.

great overview. i struggled w my op1f for quite a while at first but after a year or so i can say for sure i’m a better musician for sticking with it. also regarding the long lift function latency; keep in mind it’s not just lifting, it’s doing a full bounce and stereo image mix down, for ex say you have all 4 tracks recorded for 4 bars, each track recorded in 2 separate mono recordings (L &R), and you’ve over dubbed with panning: the lift is actually takes all the mixer settings currently, as well as the full history of panning in the original audio takes, and reducing it down to a true stereo image so that if you drop it into the drum sampler, that entire image is represented in stereo. it’s magic honestly.

I had no idea this was the case. Thanks for sharing.

@@robertgarvansnyder4665 me too i randomly dropped into drum sampler a very complex 4 bar tape take that i must have overdubbed 20x with layers panned in all diff angles plus mixer settings and was awestruck when i ultimately ported the sampler audio into logic days later to notice it had preserved and mixed down everything into a stereo image. this is not the only example of pure magic that TE never seems to boast about let alone mention. lots yet to discover IMO. i should mention that it’s mostly useful for creating new instruments in the synth. record 8 diff preexisting ones in 8 LR mono takes each with diff pan and FX then lift drop into synth sampler - a new crazy synth amalgam instrument. tons of fun with this particular use case.

I got mine in 2013 and I struggled for years to get my head around it. I based much of my music production on iOS and when I went onto hardware I picked up the OP-1. Now I love the thing now, so I understand the struggle.

@@djjohnny5166 absolutely. this device is nuts. there are tons of little gems that TE never advertises. explore and enjoy and over the years you will encounter some wonderful features/usecases that you never thought possible

Hey, very nice clip, thanks. Adding Index to your description and slicing the timeline into titled chapters would help a lot.

Yeah, cool video. Like you, I also sold the original OP-1 for those reasons. Lately I've been looking at the Field. I think one of the main things to get to grips with if I would get it, is that any music I'll make on it will be distinctly different from what I'm doing now. For good and for bad. I'm waiting to get some more info on the new Torso Electronics S-4 before I make up my mind. Cheers

When the OPXY overview will drop? Give us at least first impressions. Would be great if you do deeper look at the OP1F on how you use it.
@tarekithАй бұрын
Hopefully not too long from now. I’ve been deep into prepping a new live set on the digitakt 2 and haven’t had a ton of time on the XY yet. I’d rather wait til I get some real world time with it before sharing my real thoughts, but maybe I can do a first impressions video in the mean time.

Hey man what cables do you use to sample from your iPad? I try using the generic Apple usb c to 3.5mm adapter and a 3.5” Trs cable but it always sounds artifacty coming from the iPhone or iPad..
@tarekith4 ай бұрын
I just use a high quality USB-C cable, my iPad doesn’t have a headphone out jack.

Is it possible to use the OP XY as a sequencer for the OP 1 Field and record it on the tape of the OP1F. And wich parameters does send to the OP 1f?
@sushant2095 Жыл бұрын
They're vastly different devices, but how does the OP-1 Field compare to the Octatrack for you in terms of your songwriting and studio workflow?
@tarekith Жыл бұрын
The Octatrack for me is strictly for performing my studio tracks live, I really don't use it in the writing process at all. So for me at least, there's absolutely zero overlap with the OP-1F.

If I’m paying $2+ g’s for this, I don’t want “quirky limitations’. If this had a linear editor on it instead of the useless tape recording, it would be 100% better. With an undo button of course. It really does feel premium and the form factor is perfect.

Do you use compression on your voice as the lip smacks and breaths are almost as loud as the dialogue. Little bit of a nitpick on an otherwise informative video.
