It turns out the songs at the beginning feature a talk box, not a vocoder. That's my bad. Sorry for any confusion.

None of the songs in the beginning feature a vocoder, they all use a talk box. They are not the same thing, they sound different too.

@@ejmikk Thanks, that's good info. I think Dre was/is really into Roger Troutman and how those songs are connected. I've read about Daft Punk's extensive use of vocoders. What's your insights on them specifically and how you're saying they used a talk box instead?

@@OllieLoops Their most famous vocal sound is using the Digitech Talker (a vocoder) on the talkbox setting (listen to Lose Yourself to Dance, its that sound), however for Around the World I suspect it's actually a talkbox. If you do a youtube search for "Thomas Bangalter using talkbox" you can find a 16 second clip of him doing the around the world line using one

Hi, what is the name of the mic model for the Shure?
@OllieLoops Жыл бұрын
I don’t recall the model number. It’s several years old and I’m not sure they make it. You can look for an inline mic with a trrs connector. Hope that helps.

what the heck was that sure mic that you plugged the headset into? and why did you need to pass the OP-1 audio out of the mic input at the same time?
@OllieLoops11 ай бұрын
That Shure mic is discontinued, but it’s in inline microphone with a trrs 1/8” connector. In the comments, there’s another comment where I give the model number. Likely the routing that you see is because I need to record the audio for the video. So, there’s an extra signal loop there.

"I am going to use this shure mic that allows me to record op1s output..." why do you need to use a mic to record the op1's output? The op1 has an input and an output jack. How are you sending the output through the inline mic, if the inline mic is plugging into the op1 input? Why aren't you just plugging the mic into the line input, and recording the output through with the op1 output jack? What you described sounds like you recorded both in and out through one of the jacks. I just want to make sure I understand if those jacks are capable of more than I thought. Thank you!
@OllieLoops11 ай бұрын
@@KelpYT OP-1's input is a TRRS connector which can carry audio in two directions: from a mic and to headphones, design for use with integrated headsets. Both OP-1 models are equipped with TRRS connectors on the audio input. Documentation is light on this feature. But it allows users to use headsets with built in mics, like those at 3:03: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3zNnWtujd2amrs or with a device like the Shure mic, allowing the audio to pass through while freeing up the audio output jack. It's possible that audio could have been recorded on the audio output. But it was recorded via the Shue mic instead which shows the benefit of the TRRS connector. Hope that helps.

@@OllieLoops Copy that. This is why I pushed the question because I wanted to understand which if any can pass audio and and use the mic. It looks like the field manualk describes this for the output (not the input). Glad you got back to me cause I had been using my ipod headphones in the intput with a little speaker cause I had no idea the output could do both! the more you know, thanks!

I got a question I can’t seem to find the answer to: does volume drop when you record into tape ? When I record drum sequences ( within the op1 field ) the “tape” recording of it is quieter . So doing this live would be a turn off. Is that normal ?
@OllieLoops Жыл бұрын
Is this while you’re using the vocoder feature, or just any audio recorded to the tape?
@NothingNowhereNoOne Жыл бұрын
@@OllieLoops I choose a drum kit, set Hold on Pattern sequencer , and record to tape. The tape recording of it is lower and less dynamic. Such a noticeable difference.

You mention it works best with a bright synth. Does this allow you to select the synth patch it goes through?
@OllieLoops2 жыл бұрын
This vocoder has a setting to select between a pure synth signal and noise in varying degrees. There are presets, but the synth engine remains the same. The presents change the settings of the vocoder. In general, vocoders work best with a bright signal. Hope that helps.

@@OllieLoops thanks! I had a vocoder/talk box guitar pedal for a while and I found that by running it through a classic acoustic piano tone you could get very clear Queen/Weird Al/Bo Burnham “layered harmony” effects.
