This video is just what I needed. I have to free a jammed rear caliper on my vauxhall signam, and I have never attempted to touch anything to do with the brakes before. I took a look the other day and accidentally undid the nut for the brake fluid (so I am worried that I may have got air in the brake line). But I will try his tomorrow after work, give it a clean out and change the disks.

Excellent, thank you. I think you should use red rubber grease on the 7mm pins as they are rubber mounted. Incidentally I did not have a 7mm allen so used a torx T45 instead. It worked fine. My 10 year old Vectra pistons would not budge. I found half a teaspoonful of aluminium rust under the dust covers. Had to clean it out. I used silicone spray on the siezed piston and it worked. Yippee! Now the rubber seals are so rusted inside they will not go back on. Oh and the spring seized and broke too had to drill a new hole. Bloody rust; how I miss Australia.

Before pushing the piston in, put some CRC or WD40 under the rubber boot, makes it a lot easier and the brakes work better.

Bad practice using copper grease on the pins as it contains metal particles

Copper grease is the wrong type of grease for sliding pins your pins will dry up very quickly with the heat use silicon clear grease or red rubber grease.

I've an Opel Vectra C 1.6 petrol 08D. It's burning oil and think it could be the COB Valve. Have you any tips or videos on how to do it. Thanks a million. Jon from Ireland Dublin....

I've recently had my rear pads and disc changed and I have a load of rattling whilst driving even on the slightest of uneven road but as soon as I press the brake it stops I've had the pads out myself and noticed the spring on the pads is on the outside of the wheel could this be the problem I have a vectra c 2007 1.8 petrol . The reason for the question is on this video the pad with the spring is in the inside thanks.

Hi how do you pump the brakes back out thanks .
@djmoley
@djmoley 10 жыл бұрын
You don't need a wind back tool just use a big pair of grips. But remove cap from brake fluid res. After fitting new pads just put cap back on the res and start car and pump the brake pedal. Keep checking brake fluid as if it gets to low you will have to blead the system. Should take 20-30 mins per side is a easy job m8.

Timothy Corcoran im turning the piston using the pliers but it doesnt seem to be retracting back in - I guess you need to put pressure on the piston as youre turning it???? phil.

Just had to do my rear brakes yesterday and this pops up on my youtube feed now. lol :) didn't know at first that I needed to screw the piston in (previous cars had rear drums) then i found out that it would cost approx £30 for the piston tool. local car parts dealer had the lazer brake piston cube (cube socket) for £6, saves you some money. The one main problem with it is, it's a tad fidgety as you need to brace the callier against something like the spring to stop it from moving as you ratchet/screw the piston in. works a charm. amazon have them. Another tool to add to the box I suppose. www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-5541-Brake-Piston-8-inch/dp/B00ARVROK6
