The fuel pump is the heart of a running engine therefore I made this video to show you how to do a couple of tests before removing and replace it . On this car is still a old school fuel injection system , therefore the tests will requiere a voltmeter , and a fuel pressure gauge .

Do the wires at the pump have a secret clip? No matter how hard I pull, they don't want to come off. Also, I had already bought those plastic hose removing tools. But my hose connectors were different. The new type quick release connectors only take a couple of hours to disconnect but the old type screw clamp takes a couple of minutes.

Thanks for explanation. When I turn the ignition on, I sometimes hear the petrol pump sound, sometimes I don't hear it. And if this happens when I am driving, the car just stops. And when it happens I have to turn on the ignition multiple times before petrol pump makes the sound. What could be the problem?

Have you had a look at the OBD codes. Hold brake and accelerator down then turn key to position 2. Check engine light will start blinking out codes. Might be pump failure. They do give out. Mine failed but it was total and instant stop, car just would no longer start, not intermittent. It also sounds like bad/loose electrical connection. Could be in the ignition switch. If you wiggle / play around with the switch while driving you might be able to cause it. Also re seat the relay (purple one) and fuse. If you have a multimeter you can test the pump current draw via the relay connections but be sure NOT to connect to the signal side. ONLY the switch side, pins 87 and 30.

My pump seems to not work. I joined no 30 and 87 terminals like you did but the pump still did not work. I unplugged connection at pump and checked the voltage to be 12.2 volt. I then put the relay back in and the voltage at that connection was 3.6 volts. I put in another relay but the voltage was still 3.6 volts. The pump has 12 volt written on it so I wonder if there is a reason why only 3.6 volts gets to the connection?

Nice work ! It looks like there is some voltage drop along the wires . First double check the connectors , the fuse ( check the voltage / resistance of the fuse ) So u must find where is the point with the resistance and make that pump get 12 v .

@@doit_vehicles After further testing I found that with the new pump, when I turn on the ignition there is 3.6v at the pump and the pressure is 10 psi. When I start the engine the volts at the pump go to 14v and the pressure goes to 55psi. So I think it is normal to have 3.6v when the ign is on but the engine is not running.

Hello Doit, good to see you explaining this in detail, you have helped me out so much, But i have a question, I need your help, I have corsa c 2001 1.4 16v gasoline, I have changed my fuel pump using a MESSMER PUMP 770103A, it has 2 bars pressure on it I think it is for diesel engine ( I have googled it). But it worked just fine on my Corsa 1.4 gasoline engine, so my question is, is there any problem so far with this diesel pump using it on gasoline vehicle? and the 2 bar pressure is it enough for this vehicle to run smooth ?

Brilliant thanks. I have a weird question. When everything is back together and the pump is running, listening at the tank pump access cover, can you hear fuel rushing?? I am trying to track down the cause of a painful pressure loss issue. I recently replaced the pump. It ran brilliantly for about 20klms then hard to start, poor power and slow to build revs. The NEW pump gets the pressure to 55psi instantly at the injector rail but pressure is lost instantly when power is cut. Its a new pump so I dont think its the check valve in the pump body. The pressure regulator wasn't touched but the metal tank cover its attached to was covered in rust that I cleaned off with rust removing acid. I checked the pressure regulator with air pressure and it seems to be functioning fine. I had the injectors out, still hooked up to the rail, and turned the engine over. They look like they are working fine, all the same spray pattern, no leaking. Im wondering if fuel is getting past the plastic fitting that the regulator is housed in hence hearing the rushing noise. BUT it may be normal... then Im out of ideas....

firstly needs the suitable pressure gauge to see if the loss of pressure comes from fuel injectors or the gasoline circuit.

Recently i replaced the fuel pump and after i start the engine i had pressure on the fuel tanks cap. Every time i started the engine pressurized air was coming out of the fuel tank cap. I have a problem. When I turn the key, there is no sound from the fuel pump. I checked the fuse and it is intact, than I reversed the two relays but nothing starts. I bypassed the relay contact is and ok. I disassembled the pump and tried with the cables and it works. What could it be ?

Check the fuel pump electrical connector (you can try using a contact cleaner spray).

The rubber on the seal around the pump housing isnt closed properly. Make sure the rubber oring is in place

I don't understand how you changed regulator. It's fitted to the cap and I can't find the cap for sale or the entire pump with the cap. And I can't find out how to test it.

@@johncollins8304 some corsa is south africa have different specs, however i managed to find the problem, it was the maf sensor all this time..just letting you know, the car drove as if it was misfire. fuel pressure is 100%

Did you find out why your pump only had 3.5 v ? I seem to have the same issue. If I bypass the relay, with the wire as shown in this video, I get the 12 v. But with the relay in place it is only 3.6 v. My pump did not work even with the 12 v but you may have found the answer to why there is only 3.5 v at your pump.

As long as you don't damage the fuel level sensor try to improvise a way to fit in or just attach it on the side . The input port should be always in gasoline .I know it's not the right way , but I guess you wanna save money ..

@@doit_vehicles actually there was 2 type of bosch pump for my opel corsa. i bought the kit one with filter and everything and it was 100euro. other one was 40 euro. so i wanted to make some good improvment but its not fitted. i didnt want to left the pump inside without cap it would be play around. so i will refund it and go with the cheaper one sadly.
