Opel Manta A '71 - Hood assembly (gone wrong) and protection of parts

Hi everyone!
We are back with the project Manta and in this episode we are going to take a look of protection of parts with primer to keep the rust at bay, assembly of the hood that went wrong, why it went wrong and what is the solution and make an overview of where the project sits and what needs to be done. Mistakes are just learning experiences. LOL I use spray can primer for most rust repairs these days. I used to have an old paint gun I only used for primer. But you have to mix the primer and after you apply the primer you must clean the spray gun. The cans are better quality these days also. Nice to know your still working on the car. Hi John! Nice to hear from you. Yeah this was a stupid mistake and some can't be avoided but we did one mistake yesterday that I literally lost thiannoghts sleep over it. Nothing catastrophic really but I expected better. Oh well, learning curve I guess. Spray can primers can be great, I use them sometimes but I noticed a large variety of quallity. Certainly easier than mixing 2k every time and cleaning your paint gun. 🙂

Amazing attention to detail, separating all the inner structures from the skins. That's a lot of work! Can't wait to see this car painted and assembled, knowing the quality of your work, it's going to be beautiful. By comparison, the bodywork on my Manta was pretty half-assed, but I was lucky with a very solid car to start with. Maybe someday I'll get it redone.

Yes I be look for 10 years now, have 2 to pick from, instead I have a got a mustang 1968 but this Manta keep popup in my head 😃

do you have any video or pictures of how you took the hood appart? i have some rust under the hoods frame, i should do exactly the same as you did.

Hey! There is in one of the older videos "How we saved the trunk lid | Hood restoration |" ; so there you will see how we took it apart. There are spot welds on the sides and seam sealer and you can see how ti goe in that video. Hope that helps! :)
