My first car was a 1971 Opel 1900 Rallye series. I am in the USA and that was what the Manta was called in 1971. Your videos make me very homesick for that car.
@l3v4rt2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, US got Opel briefly, I believe you also had Ascona as 1900 sedan there. And GT's :) Hope you will like future videos as well and maybe you will buy it back some day! Cheers and thanks for following the project!

Many years ago before they had clear plastic mix cups, painters used a viscosity meter. It is a cup with a hole in the bottom and a handle. After mixing your primer or paint. You would dip the viscosity meter in the primer or paint and then count the seconds of time that it took for the fluid to drain out. For paint and primer 18 to 22 seconds is the proper mix. I usually try for 20 seconds. I still use mine. I don't paint cars everyday. Your coverage of coats looks good. Good Job.

Uuuu thanks, I will definitely look into it - might help me in future. Thank for following and the advice, always nice to read your feedback. Have a pleasant weekend! :)

@@l3v4rt I wanted to say that you should measure the paint (with a viscosity meter) after it has been mixed with the reducer or thinner and just before putting the mix into your spray gun.
@l3v4rt2 жыл бұрын
@@tint661 yeah, I tried to follow the recommendwtions by manufacuterer of paint products and the second time was great. When I painted the under side I must have put too little reducer and needed to up the paint and air flow. It is a craft of it's own for sure and I am just getting a glimpse of it so far. Thanks for the tip John!

No wonder you look so happy, you've done a great job, it's transformed and looks so sexy, it's also such a fantastic landmark in your build. There is nowhere else on earth that you could have got such a strong, straight, rust free and beautiful Manta A shell. If you do paint it yourself, you will know you have built your own car completely. If it doesn't go as well as you want, you just need to flat out the bad bits and re- shoot the the colour coat. It's awesome and looks so solid and real.
@l3v4rt2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, it really looks like a car now not like a mess and paintign with acrilic paint as single stage an finish with clearcoat on last step is probably best for beginner as you can sand the orange peel out. I am thinking about it but I will see how I will be able to manage my time and if I will take courage and go into it as a beginner. I'e done some painting engine bay, sills,..) but nothing of this magnitude. Glad you are still actively following the build! Cheers :)

Looking good, nice job! Guessing you are in the southern hemisphere, as its warming up here. If you decide to paint the finish color yourself, my advice is to stay away from light silver metallic for a first paint job. I had to paint the car twice to eliminate small tiger stripes and mottling in the silver. Will need to do the same cavity spraying as you did on my 73 Manta.
@l3v4rt2 жыл бұрын
No no, I lie in Slovenia - central Europe, but this was filmed right before winter set in. I will definitly go with original Kardinal red color and as single stage with clearcoat on top. Easier to use on engine bay and everything that I can do myself and still get gloss unlike with two stage if I will do it bit by bit as it was with this primer. Glad you find it useful and thanks for advice - I am sure other people will find it usefull like I do. I never thought about silver being hard to paint but now that you said it it makes sense. Hope you are well and best regards! :)

@@l3v4rt No need to apologise, busy is good, real life has a way of getting in the way of the online world, and that is how it should be, just as long as you are OK, myself, I'm doing well, finally get to take a trip next that was book in 2020 and cancel twice due to Covid. I am really impressed with what you have done so far and looking forward to seeing this project progress, the Opel Manta A series, for some reason, is my favourite car, I'd love one, but now live in Australia and I don't think there were ever sold here. I also don't have the skills required to restore one even if I could find one.
