Do open systems wear out more quickly, typically?

Not really tbh id have to say they last longer due to less moving parts , e.g. gear pump which is just 2 gears in a housing and scotch yoke piston pump thats fixed displacement (ferguson/MF)

Not as efficient and oil probably runs hotter but more basic system

The actual Hydraulic ram or motor on the machine itself is the same , just the valves that control them that are different

Good question, would depend on the valve block really , most things use valve blocks made by outside company's that might possibly be changeable to keep manufacturing costs down 🤔 , failing that you could just change the valve block thats bolted to your loader brackets
