What depresses me is that Tolkien’s lore *already* includes epic women who took on terrifying enemies, but they won’t tell those stories. They instead take other stories and change them to feature women who were never warriors. The ancient ancestors humans before Rohan included Haleth, who led her people through a siege and impressed a son of Feanor. Then there was Emeldir, who armed the women and children when the men were all killed, and led them all like an army through a haunted forest and kept them alive. These women *were* great warriors. But instead filmmakers try to undercut *Helm* who was supposed to be an absolute legend and symbol of Rohan’s strength. Why? And don’t get me started on how epic Luthien was, able to throw down Sauron’s tower and even incapacitate Morgoth. Edit: Corrected a lore detail
@tjjordan420716 сағат бұрын
They refuse to acknowledge that others have already made good female characters, like they need to be seen as the ones who invented good female characters. Actually, I would argue they wish to reinvent the idea of what a good female character is through the lie that they never existed before. Their version instead being a 'strong female protagonist', in which they are either Mary Sues or Girlbosses, always right and better than men at everything.

@PeoplePleaser57812 сағат бұрын
It’s twofold - Helm Hammerhand is mentioned in the films, which means more people know who he is and made the story more popular than Haleth, Luthien, etc. The people writing this have no clue about Tolkien, so they don’t care. They just want to hamfist their nonsense in whenever they can and then take shots at Tolkien by implying he deliberately chose not to write about them. Haleth and Caranthir would be a sick story. (It’s not really a Rohan story, it’s a Edain story, which would be linked more with Numenor and the Dunedain but still a dope story).

Luthien was definitely badass. She winged Beren the whole journey and although Beren was brave in pursuing his love he was punching opponents way above his weight which meant Luthien had to save him. Neither party was humiliated in the process.

One of the biggest failings of the "modern female action star" is modern writers fail to understand that a woman being able to physically overpower a man makes her unrelatable to women. Black Widow in MCU Phase1 never punched a man in the face or won an arm wrestling contest, she used her legs and her wit (that introduction scene where she floors Happy is brilliant), which emphasizes how a women can still be valuable and hold power her own unique way, and she looks hot at the same time.

Terminator Zero...just f***ing No! "Alternate timelines" that shits all over the film narratives. If "alternate timelines" was a thing in T1 then Reese and the T-800 would have appeared in two different "alternate timeliness" and never met.

I just watched WotW two days ago and my overall reaction was just kinda meh. It didn’t feel nearly as offensive as all the other garbage we’ve gotten for major franchises but Im willing to concede that it’s a piece of crap

It was mediocre but the younger actors/cast did an actors did good in their roles and performances.

It doesn’t help that the first Avatar was already mediocre/terrible anyways. They’re both overrated movies.

Oh, the Avatar movie? I read WotW and thought you meant War of the Worlds.

I liked Cowboy Bebop but I think it tried too hard to be hip and nior.

Die hard is not a Christmas movie

Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. It's a movie that takes place at Christmas. That doesn't mean you can't watch it at Christmas time.

It's another "literal who is insufferable" episode

These bad Sony movies like Madame Web and Morbius just make me appreciate Spider Man 3 more.

SM3 was never bad, just cluttered.

Spider Man 3 is underrated and I like it fine as it is.

The only good thing I liked about Avatar 2 was the younger actors and their performances. And while Jurassic World Dominion was terrible, Isabella Sermon, the actress who played the clone girl did a good job.

It would seem the "is Die Hard a Christmas movie" debate comes down to one simple subjective question. Does Die Hard put you in the Christmas mood? Me? No. So, whereas I agree it's a Christmas movie, I won't watch it at Christmas. If your answer is yes, then I guess you're watching it at Christmas. I cannot stress how little about Die Hard's entire runtime fills me with the Christmas spirit. I'm too distracted with what's actually happening. Terrorflisms do the terror in a building and one balding barefoot cop has to stop them. There's no shortage of Christmas films and specials, and many of them are difficult to find outside of the holiday season. But I can watch Die Hard anytime. And I do. Just not at Christmas.

I think we can add a bit more to the franchises there. Terminator Salvation is actually my 2nd favorite Terminator movie besides the first one. ALIEN Romulus was actually surprisingly pretty good. And I also liked Alien Vs Predator Req even though I understand some people have issues with it.

Salvation feels like mid season cliffhanger for tv show... Skynet tries its code virus plan and nothing else happens. And motorcycle, snake terminators are just laughable bad and transformers is meh and clearly made in time when transformers were at their peak.
